Hello, this is my quick guide to my deckbuilding philosophy with this Ur-Dragon deck. There are many Ur-Dragon decks out there but this one is mine. There is a vast ocean of choices for dragon decks so it is very hard to pick one card over another.

First off some self-imposed restrictions and guidelines:

  1. No generic tutors such as Demonic Tutor or even broad tutors like Eladamri's Call
  2. No combos such as Aggravated Assault and Savage Ventmaw
  3. Dragons need to have big splashy effects. Some decks like to play lower curve dragons like Chaos Dragon or Nicol Bolas, the Ravager  . This is for a more aggro strategy and not quite battlecruiser magic.
  4. Ramp and cheating of mana cost are our priorities in this deck. I want 1-2 dragons out by turn 5 in most games.
  5. Removal when not attached to a dragon, like Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire, should be instant speed or repeatable
  6. Dragons that put us ahead or put our opponents behind are premium

Some standout cards:

Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm is probably the new best dragon in the 99. Every dragon is doubled up and ward 2 is such a pain to deal with

Hellkite Courser is good in very few decks but ours is probably the best. 10 damage at least 1 drawn card and a free permanent. Bonus points if you drop Fiery Emancipation with this and straight-up nuke a player on turn 4.

Genesis Ultimatum At worst this is 7 mana draw 5. This also can drop some fat dragons into play out of nowhere.

Majestic Genesis Similar to courser, this card is good in basically only our deck. 8 mana to dig 9 cards deep and just vomit permanents into play is unmatched in explosiveness. This card can turn an empty board state into a win.

Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty gets at least one other spell on cast. This card can turn into a dangerous engine if left alone.

Sneak Attack no enchantment has the same explosiveness as this one. Often with cards like Ganax, Astral Hunter or Old Gnawbone we can end up mana positive after sneaking in a bunch of dragons. This also can fuel a nasty combo with Greater Good that keeps the hand full after dishing out tons of damage

Steely Resolve This card makes dealing with dragons very hard. We normally get a lot of removal chucked at us.

Scion of the Ur-Dragon this allows us to assemble any 2-card dragon combo like Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm+Hellkite Courser or Ancient Gold Dragon+Scourge of Valkas out of nowhere.

Notable exclusions:

Kindred Discovery Yes this card is good. It has drawn me many cards. I have taken it out due to mana cost. 5 mana is right where I start wanting to drop dragons usually.

Dragon's Hoard Again, good card but it got outclassed by Black Market Connections
