Infect is a mechanic where creatures with infect don't do normal damage. To creatures, infectious creatures give -1/-1 counters instead of dealing normal damage. The real BS is when infect creatures do damage to players. They give poison counters to players, and once a player gets 10 poison counters loses the game.Infect can win as early as turn two, if your opponents do not have answers. This is only one of many turn two wins:
T1 - Untapped Land, Glistener Elf
T2 - Untapped Land, Groundswell (+4/+4), Giant Growth (+3/+3), Mutagenic Growth Paying 2 life (+2/+2), attack with a 10/10 Glistener Elf for lethal damage
Note:
Apostle's Blessing won't work against devoid spells.
Pendelhaven
is a legendary land, so you can't have more than one out.
Regardless of life total, 10 poison counters kills.
Ichorclaw Myr is AMAZING with trample.
Sideboards are always completely dependant on your meta, so I didn't include one. Some suggestions:
If you decide to run Vines of Vastwood, remember it is not exactly hexproof and can target an opponent's creature, negating any spells any opponent uses on that creature
MONO-G UPGRADES:
- The only upgrades I can think of are fetches!
If you wanna go even more budget, all you have to do is drop the Inkmoth Nexus's, because they are $20 apeice. If you want, you can get rid of the
Pendelhaven
's, because they are expensive and aren't exactly vital to the deck.
LEGACY UPGRADES:
Definitely go to add some Invigorate's because they are just perfect for a strategy like this, and they are not legal in modern.
Berserk has gone down in price significantly due to its recent reprinting in Conspiracy - Take the Crown.
SPLASHING BLUE/RUNNING G/U:
PAUPER:
The best budget format, pauper, uses only commons and basic lands from any set in Magic, and it has a small ban list.
Unfortunately, Invigorate is banned in pauper
Most of the deck is already commons. However, Forests are the only lands in this deck legal in pauper. You could run
Turntimber Grove
if you like.
Whichever path you choose, infect is sure to dominate at FNM or other modern, legacy, and pauper tournaments!
Thx for checking out my deck!
