Another interesting interaction,

Reality Shift....

Blue's new and (arguably) improved Rapid Hybridization

Works with Ornithoper in a pinch, cast on opponents creatures (Exiled!), Scuttles the Tank Engine ignores manifest/morph tokens.... (2 power or Less)

Scroll of the Masters also has some interesting applications here as well, especially considering the counters never go away...

Tormod's Crypt should have some inclusion due to whip/delve based decks.... AND is a 0 drop artifact

Good point on Tormod's Crypt, i keep forgetting to add it back into the sideboard specifically for whip/delve match's. I took Avarice Amulet x1 and Perilous Vault x1 out of the sideboard to put two Tormod's in.

Reality Shift could definitely be interesting, and i can see where anyone who wanted to run it would.

Scroll of the Masters doesn't feel like it has a place in this specific deck, since it only gains a counter when noncreature spells are cast. There are 15 in total (before you'd find a place for Scroll itself) and it doesn't feel like it'd add up to enough in a short matchup. This deck definitely wants to get in and win as fast as possible, to avoid getting eaten in a drawn out game (especially against control).

I realize that this deck is supposed to be colourless, but I would definately add some red for cards like Shrapnel Blast - you'll almost always be able to cast it with this deck and 5 damage for 2 mana is pretty insane. Also, you can use the Shrapnel Blast + Ugin's Nexus combo to take some extra turns, whilst still dealing 5 damage. Extra turns are really useful as they allow you to use Ugin, the Spirit Dragon's abilities more than usual.

Also, do I even need to explain why Ensoul Artifact is awesome?

I realize that this deck's 'Gimmick' is the fact that it's colourless, but there's so much more that could be done with an aggressive izzet build.

stolenova, I'm glad you like the deck! There are definitely a lot of tweaks people can make to personalize it more toward their style. Altar of the Brood is something i've been considering putting back into the board in place of Grindclock since i added the Renowned Weaponsmith's in. The deck has a much higher aggro feel to it now, and the Grindclock has started to feel out of place.

I took Pyxis of Pandemonium out mostly because of the uncertainty of it. While it could turn out insanely well, i could also drop 4 land onto my side of the field and a couple of Siege Rhino onto my opponents. The card itself tickles my fancy as a gambler, but it doesn't have the consistency required for the deck most of the time.

Personally i'm not a very good control based player, so i tend to avoid most blue control (my weakness haha), but its definitely a good sideboard plan.

stolenova, i did end up putting Altar of the Brood into the mainboard in place of Grindclock, i've also added three Ensoul Artifact into the main in place of Opaline Unicorn.

From your suggestion i decided it would be best to take Shrapnel Blast out of the sideboard, and take the red based land out and replace it with Islands. Instead of the Shrapnel's i put Stubborn Denial into the side. I may not be good with a full control sideboard, but even i can see the benefits of a few low drop counterspells in a deck that can have 5/5 and 6/6 creatures out VERY early.

Thanks for the suggestions, it definitely made the deck a little faster and more consistent!

Another neat, yet very positive trick here....

Triton Tactics

Untaps Artifact Dorks.... also 1 drop protect from combat damages... Turns Ornitophers / Weaponsmiths... into flying/walking freezer bots....

Necrotech, I'm fairly certain that you terrify me as much as you make me want to puke rainbows of joy.

Triton Tactics is something that could definitely be added to sideboard (especially if you like a lot of blue control theme), and honestly its kind of terrifying how it can even tap vigilance creatures.

I think it might honestly have a better place than Phyrexian Revoker in the sideboard. The Revoker is good, as long as it's on the field to block an opponents abilities, but Triton Tactics is just kind of sexy.

I have invested in this deck as luckily I had the majority of the cards here. This deck is awesome +1

Absolutely love the deck will be building this and trying it out... another card I thought off that would literally piss ur opponents off would be Monastery Siege....where they gotta pay an extra 2 with the spell they cast that targets you or any of ur creatures

January 29, 2015 11:24 a.m.

Necrotech says... #12

After some consideration, I am not sure if Monastery Siege would be good for this particular deck. (Others, however, this card is a gem)

Frontier Siege maybe (just based on raw mana ramp), but not worth splashing green IMHO

Now maybe if I could get KaedynCross to come west towards Rochester.... heh heh

KaedynCross says... #13

I've been talking about Monastery Siege with a friend who swears it'd be hilarious for either card selection or forcing my opponent to spend more mana. I'd have to playtest it in the deck to find out, luckily tomorrow is FNM and i can playtest in it's current version as well as make some tests with other cards.

I don't know about Rochester, i mean that place is like.. potentially even more boring than St. Albans haha.

KaedynCross says... #14

Definitely going to try 1 Monastery Siege mainboard during FNM tomorrow, instead of Perilous Vault. 1 sideboard, so we'll see how it goes. Hopefully it's as funny as it looks like it'll be.

Well, we do hold PTQ's out here..... Got one of the largest LGS (Millenium Games) on the east coast.... (used to be the largest in the USA, back when it was Crazy Igor's)

Don't tempt me Necrotech! xD

I must conquer the east before i can conquer the west. Lol.

I'm very seriously dropping the mill from this deck and running x2-3 Bident of Thassa. It's becoming clear that the mill just isn't cutting it and I feel like I need some control in this deck. We are running close to identical decks at this point sans a few preference amounts. I'm also really wanting to fit in x4 Reality Shift mainboard. That card seems way too good not to include, especially since the 2/2 they get will be an after thought.

I'd also like to point out that Juggernaut has never been seen as an option here. I might end up running them over Hewed Stone Retainers since mana is a non-factor but I will have to playtest them and see which works out better for me.

January 29, 2015 3:50 p.m.

KaedynCross says... #19

I'd think of Bident of Thassa as a maybe (especially for the extra card draw), i personally enjoy the incidental mill to an extent, and Altar of the Brood is something easy to sideboard out against graveyard matchups (obviously you don't want to be giving them MORE cards toward their goals).

At this point it's really personal preference for how people feel like like running the deck, as well as play testing to see how some things work vs others. Juggernaut never really tickled my fancy due to the fact that it's forced to attack every turn, and is relatively easy to kill with it's 3 toughness (even by just blocking it). I'd rather have the option to hold back from attacking to defend if necessary.

Necrotech says... #20

Bident I like for a WHOLE another reason.... (hear me out)

Use the Bident secondary ability.... (Weapon master can trigger this... activated artifact ability).. into a Polymorphist's Jest

All your creatures are attacking? And are frogs.... ain't that a bitch.... Don't forget Triton Tactics untap Weaponsmith's who just used their power.....

January 29, 2015 5:20 p.m.

KaedynCross says... #21

That.. that might be a thing LOL.

Not sure how I'd go about adding either of those into the deck, but i guess i'll look into it with playtesting tomorrow night.

January 29, 2015 5:53 p.m.

Necrotech says... #22

But honestly, stick to what works, know your game plan..

And that bident thing... great for Jeskai Token or other Aggro decks......

Just cherry pick their strong threats and murder them.... (Frogs can't get prowess triggers....)

KaedynCross says... #23

Yeah, overall i'm hoping to run this in State's in its current form. It just feels like it'll do pretty well.

Right now i'm working on my Modern Deck, which looks like it's gonna run me over $800 to build (tax returns will save the day?!). So i guess we'll see if this deck needs much more work after extensive playtesting.

I really don't understand why you are playing Altar of the Brood at all, I just find it hard to imagine that you are ever actually trying to win by milling someone out, especially if this is an aggro deck. I mostly just think you would be better off with some sort of creature there, probably either Chief Engineer or Phyrexian Revoker. I just think the playset of Altar of the Brood is a complete waste of 4 cards about 90% of the time.
