A fun yet surprisingly competitive brew I've been working on for the last couple of weeks. It's had lots of success on mtgo and won it's first pre release this week having played against: t r/g ramp, atarka red, jeskai aggro and u/r thopters
The mechanic the deck is built around (as the title might suggest) is flash. The real strength of flash is that it allows you to play both a control and tempo game. The game plan is to sit back with your mana up and control the game until your opponent stumbles and gives you a chance to flash in a creature on their end step without having played anything that demands an answer. This means, unless you are ahead or your opponent doesn't have a threatening play for next turn you will never cast a spell during your own turn.
The deck contains only two cards which cannot be flashed:
Bearer of Silence
because it is almost always a two for one and thus provides alot of tempo. This can be very important as everything else in the deck trades one for one.
Sagu Mauler
morph allows this card to be cast piece wise and thus you should still be able to hold mana up to answer anything your opponent tries to do on their turn. Secondly it is an unstoppable threat and should be able to close out any game once face up.
Finally, the sideboard:
Pulse of Murasa
, lets you trade/chump block against aggro whilst buying you more time to stabalise and crush them in the mid.late game.
Virulent Plague +
Displacement Wave
. As previously mentioned this deck trades one for one almost all of the time, therefore a very good answer to a resolved token generator or just a wide board is vital to regain tempo.
Supplant Form
. A criminally under rated card that can be used to steal games from big stompy decks by casting on their end step.
The rest of the sideboard should be tweaked for your meta as the deck only really struggles against wide aggro builds.
