Yeah I've realized that using Path to Exile might be bad giving them an extra land while they already get a draw machine. I think leaving it streamline and concise as you have it is a good idea, but I might try out Gideon, Champion of Justice for the janky magic player in me. Azor's Elocutors is hilarious as well.

Anyways, good luck with the deck, awesome concept

Since Leyline of Sanctity is so expensive, you could just run Witchbane Orb in your sideboard instead.

Binky92 If anyone is on a budget, that is a good suggestion. However, by turn four against burn or other you very well could be dead. You have already been thoughtseized, etc. The damage has already been done. Also leyline is harder to remove than the orb. So, if your budget forces you to do so, it is an option. But leyline is just so crucial i highly suggest springing for it.

And by "on a budget" I obviously mean on a tighter budget.

I'd just like to input that the three mana white fogs (Riot Control and Safe Passage ) are VERY relevant in modern. The only real answers you have to storm and the almost creatureless RDW are in the sideboard, so unless you're willing to accept you'll almost always lose game one against these decks (which you may very well be, some brews of turbo fog are so consistent you wont have to worry about losing game one and also the three cmc isn't good with Isochron Scepter ) I would recommend running at least one of them. On a similar note, I'm not sure how necessary it is to run two win-cons (Elixir of Immortality + Howling Mine and Luminarch Ascension ) personally, I only run 2x Elixir, but of course to each his (or her) own, especially in such a controlling deck as this.

georgeegroeg2013 Dawn Charm is my mainboard answer to burn and storm, and yeah game one pretty much goes to them. I prefer the one and two mana fogs for scepter. And Howling Mine just speeds up the process, it's main purpose for being there is just to make sure I can always keep my hand filled in all scenarios. It just happens to also be a win con, haha :) Thanks for the input!

This is amazing! You'd never see it coming, either. +1

I just wanted to get your thoughts on running up to a play set of Rebuff the Wicked ? This could be useful if they run or side in anything that will take out the multitude of permanents that are useful in this deck.

Silence would be funny, especially if you put it on Isochron Scepter . If only Orim's Chant was modern...

So I played this against my friends lifegain deck. We ended up 182 life (him) to 15 life (me) and he had one of his Ajani's Pridemate pumped up to 84/84 protection from all colors. He lost anyway because Howling Mine emptied his library.gg wp.

this has become one of my favourite modern decks, I've only taken it to one FNM so far but I placed 3rd (also FNM tomorrow is Modern again ;) ). A few chances I've made in my version that might interest you Dalektable, but obvious they're just my preference:

-2 Wrath of God for +2 Terminus - works clunky with Howling Mine draws but you can just hard cast it too. Wrath works well in most cases but against decks like Pod I'd rather just library the creatures instead of having to worry about graveyard play. Hoses some other contenders too.

-1 Holy Day for +1 Gideon Jura - he's just fun

-1 Angelsong for +1 Entreat the Angels - another 'for fun' card that obviously still offers a bunch of utility. This means I'm down to 18 fog effects, but with 4 Isochron Scepter it was even then somehow a bit overkill. I also chose Angelsong because I almost never use the cycling effect because 99% of the time its either a plains I don't need or another fog effect.

Overall sweet deck though, I'll report back tomorrow assuming I run this deck :)

Myogenesis Thanks for the deck love! I'm glad you're enjoying running it! Those changes are interesting, the later two seem very "win more" to me and I very much don't mind playing out a very grindy game so i wont be adding those. Terminus is a thought, but it does seem clunky with mine as you said. However, that being said i encourage you to adjust and make this deck your own. Make sure to continue letting me know how it does for you! Also, any troublesome match ups you have I'd love to hear about as well as any thoughts on potential sideboard options for those match ups.

Are there any budget cards i can replace for Luminarch Ascension or Isochron Scepter?

November 24, 2014 11:44 p.m.

Dalektable says... #19

jechkt Luminarch Ascension is absolutely necessary to the deck's success. Isochron Scepter, I suppose, could be removed for another playset of fogs however that severely weakens the deck as a whole.

Budget version of Luminarch ascension can be Shrine of Loyal Legions, you'll cast many spell eah turn. But is a worse card.

I gave this a bunch of plays, and you're right, I've lost quite a few friends with it.

I changed up one thing, though. I'm running with Planar Cleansing instead of the Wrath of Gods, simply because I found I hand an issue with decks that have a ton of planeswalkers in them. It hurt me as well, it's true, but I would try to hold off doing that until I had an Isochron Scepter and a Dawn Charm in my hand, so I could cast and imprint right away.

Nasty little reset that more often than not ended up making my opponent simply concede rather than try to build up again.

Thanks for the amazing deck idea!

I ran a deck similar to this and found Underworld Dreams to be pretty good with all the card drawing. I also used Sorin Markov to help keep those life gain decks in check.

Dalektable says... #23

Matt_The_OGRE Thanks for the comment/suggestion. Both seem alright, but I don't want to delve too heavily into black. Currently it is simply here for Batwing Brume. Lifegain decks aren't really all too prominent, but the one that is (Soul SIsters) has absolutely no answer to this deck really and i am perfectly content with decking them out with Howling Mines.

Would Angel's Grace be good i here?

Not sure if it would be but it may just be good for any decks that include artifact hate as a last resort.
