That's true, but Champion isn't reliant on energy (I have a bit less energy synergy than I could have had- I opted for Rishkar over Rogue Refiner), and it can grow faster (cub is limited to one activation without additional energy spells), and I think the energy I do make I would rather spend on card advantage with Glint-Sleeve Siphoner.
That's why I have the card in there over cub.
Is this correct? Maybe not but excited to try it. I do recognize the points you have made; maybe I'm just over hyped about new over old.
I'll let you know how it plays out in testing.

If you can get Longtusk Cub an attack on a player, he quickly builds up your energy counters via the Herald of Secret Streams.

Yeah I think I probably will make that change. As much as I love new stuff, I think the cub may be better, particularly just because I don't have enough spells to make Deeproot Champion worth it.

I would replace Duress with Harsh Scrutiny. I would prefer to take out some Hazoret the Fervent or Carnage Tyrant over removal.

I'm not sold on Duress, but I think its better here than Scrutiny.
Making my game one against control a little better is pretty big.
I might want to add Blossoming Defense however, so I might cut Duress for that.

Hi there! Loving the build and had been tinkering with it myself. Any thoughts on expanding the 3 drop slot on the curve? For now it looks like the only 3 drop is Rishkar, Peema Renegade at a 2 of and I was wondering if you were considering building on that at all?

magicmonkey3, thanks for the comment!
I was also considering Rogue Refiner for the 3 drop slot, though I would probably prefer more Rishkar, Peema Renegade anyway.
I guess turn three is a 2 drop and leave up a 1 drop ideally. But it's coincidence that I have significantly more 2 and 4 drops than 3. The other options are just much better imo.

FNM results 2-2
Round 1 win against GB Energy (2-0)
Round 2 loss against BR Aggro (1-2)
Round 3 loss against Esper Control (1-2)
Round 4 win against G/R Aggro (2-1)
After tonight the way I see Herald of Secret Streams is like a poor man's Hostage Taker. When either comes down with a big board it allows the game to end very quickly. However, Hostage Taker is good pretty much whenever, whereas Herald is pretty terrible when it's all you have.
If you don't want to spend ~$60 right now for the pirate, Herald is a pretty good alternative. But if you're willing to spend almost $300 on a deck anyway maybe you might as well pay a bit more.

good looking sultai Constrictor deck you have and i putting one together too

I feel that Longtusk Cub synergies with your deck better. With Winding Constrictor on board, both Energy counters and +1/+1 counters can get out of hand really fast. And unlike the Champion, when it eventually gets killed, you still can have energy counters floating around so you aren't starting at square one when you play the next one.
Regardless though, +1 from me. It's a nice deck.
