I have a separate deck called Jimmyvolution that uses Vorel of the Hull Clade and Master Biomancer . I really want to avoid adding a third color because I dont want to spend $80 getting all the non-basic lands I would need to support that.

Kavu Predator will definately make the sideboard though. Great suggestion. I have a buddy who uses Trostani to gain obscene amounts of life.

I feel like this must have been considered, but Death's Presence , Corpsejack Menace , and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord go great together. I'd actually say that's a more fun win condition then just attacking.

pablopablo16 Im still trying to get Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord in this deck. I am just having a really hard time figuring out what to take out. Death's Presence looks really crazy but it is more expensive than anything else in the deck. Still, I will give it some consideration.

The Essence Harvest Idea is great! I have a similar deck: So many counters!!{HELP}, would you mind checking it out and tell me what you think?

Just a few comments on your mana base, just my two cents, feel free to ignore. I feel you are not running quite enough lands, I would shoot for 23. Or maybe 22, and cut 2 Overrun ? I don't think you want to draw too many of those, plus reducing the number of five drops should help speed it up. Modern is pretty fast so you don't want a lot of dead cards in hand. Also I feel Murder is a bit ambitious for this deck (double black will be hard to hit consistently). I also think you need the 2 new lands to be duals of some kind, as well as swap 3 Forest with duals. It can be Llanowar Wastes , Tainted Wood , Overgrown Tomb , Twilight Mire , Woodland Cemetery , Temple of Malady and/or Verdant Catacombs . All depends on your budget and preference of course. I think those will smooth things out considerably and make the deck more competitive. Let me know what you think. +1 :)

fadetoblack1183 Thanks for the suggestions and the up vote. Woodland Cemetery is already on my list, I just need to get them. Ive never had any mana issues at 20. Birds of Paradise and Llanowar Elves help that out. Murder is in the SB for mono black. I will probably go with Abrupt Decay anyway. Still, I usually have enough black mana between the BoPs and swamps. The cemetery will help that too.

Is there any reason you chose Murder over Heroes' Bane ? I realize that you don't normally like rares over commons...but the added planeswalker destruction is worth it, bane is really just a much better card. Also, is there a reason Kruphix, God of Horizons is not in this deck? You can save mana from turn to turn and drop truly horrifying creatures with your setup.

KSULongneck says... #10

Scytec I imagine you meant to suggest Hero's Downfall . The two swamp mana cost makes it less consistent in my deck. Plus, as you mentioned, its a rare. Kruphix, God of Horizons has a blue mana requirement and I dont want to have to worry about adding that to my mana base.

Ya, my bad. All this hero crap is getting all mixed up in my head. Haha. An ok, fair enough. Good luck with your deck.

Are you going to be able to block one billion 2/1 pestermite tokens on t4? Or deal 1 billion damage t4 against kitchen finks melira pod combo. Kitchen table games are nothing like competitive modern settings. This is a casual deck and not really competitive. Unblockable infect, affinity, storm and bloom titan decks aim to deal lethal damage t2-3 weather or not you have a creature on the board. Considering your budget you arent getting the cards you need to stop the combo in time to get your hydra huge enough. Thoughtseize, surgical extraction and dismember could really help out but i still dont think its enough for sonething this mid rangey to stall them out. Maybe a whip of erebos or two could help you gain life to survive an extra turn and whipping kalonian hydra is awesome.

Felixlives One billion 2/1 pestermites will die to Golgari Charm without a problem. I should be using some artifact hate for pod decks but the spot removal can kill Melina or kitchen finks. I wont ever subscribe to the belief that you have to play a $1000.00 net deck to be competitive. I've played far to much Magic over far to many years to fall into that trap. There is a reason those decks get Top 8s all the time, sure, but in a format as deep as Modern there is always room for a homebrew. Barring an infinite life combo going off I can swing for lethal or Essence Harvest for lethal on T4 or 5 pretty consistently and I get the satisfaction of knowing I did that on my own instead of copying a professionally built deck off the internet.

I aggree about a good homebrew making waves in the format but you had better be using the best form of the cards you have available to you. You are going to at least want to have some dismembers and thoughtsieze. I would consider mb some golgari charms for artifact/token/removal hate.

June 29, 2014 5:28 p.m.

KSULongneck says... #15

Thoughtsieze Is very effective and I like the card. If I paid $15 per card it would be the most Ive paid for any card. Its very effective at breaking combos before they start and I will likely get some. Im not sold on Dismember over Doom Blade or Go for the Throat especially with some significant threats at higher than 5 toughness. Id just rather kill a creature outright. I am looking at getting some Abrupt Decay for removal as well. Golgari Charm Is in the MB as often as its in the SB in real life. Its just so useful.

Check out my deck, it uses the same combo as your deck, in standard. It has chances on multiple turns too.

Dude I love the idea of Corpsejack Menace in this deck, I mean Heroes' Bane with 8 counters instead of 4? Crazy! +1

Thanks thecrazyleprachaun. It gets even crazier for Primordial Hydra and you dont wanna be around when Kalonian Hydra attacks with a Corpsejack on the board and a Solidarity of Heroes in my hand. Yikes.

Have you considered Doubling Season ?

July 18, 2014 12:25 p.m.

KSULongneck says... #21

I have considered Doubling Season . At five mana its at the very top of my curve and the spot is a little overcrowded already. Its also really expensive to buy. It fits my theme and purpose, sure, but its not impactful enough to justify its costs in this deck (mana or money)

I saw this and felt the need to make my own build. I prefer to run Mistcutter Hydra over Protean Hydra its haste and inability to be countered helps with quick damage. They're are some other differences as well check it out if interested and thank you for the awesome deck.

KSULongneck says... #23

I like Mistcutter Hydra . Hes in the sideboard for control matchups. Protean Hydra is main deck becuase alot of decks in my meta use significant amounts of deathtouch and lifelink and since the Protean Hydra prevents damage before removing counters those opponents dont get the benefit of those abilities.

Hello very nice deck looks alot like mine give it a Look and we can share idees +1 i would realy put in some Rogue's Passage awsome card Will make huge hydras impossible to stop :)

July 26, 2014 11:19 a.m.

With creatures this huge I would def run a few copies of Triumph of Ferocity in your deck to get more draw for having huge creatures. Otherwise you could run a couple copies of Disciple of Bolas for draw and life gain.
