I like the idea of Echoes but the problem is that it's a dead card in my hand unless I can get at least half their deck milled by turn 5, and usually that doesn't happen unless I get lucky with Archive Trapping and have 2 Glimpses or a Glimpse and a Snapcaster. I would run it as a singleton but I really don't have anything I can cut for it, and against decks like Pod it's just a dead card. Also, it doesn't hit anything in their hand, nor does it clear the board, so I'm not gaining anything by playing it over a regular mill spell because even if I mill a copy of their win con, if they have another one in their hand I still lose. That's why I run Surgical Extractions--so I can peek at their hand and possibly exile the immediate wincon.

I'm wondering, when you say that this deck flat-out loses against control, what type of control shell are you looking at? I played in Richmond with my mill list, and my only wins were against american control (which there was a lot of and I beat 2 out of 2 times) and the other combo decks like Pod and Living End. My losses were to Affinity and some weird mono-white splicer-flicker-hatebear deck.

Control with burn. Though I wrote that when this deck looked very different. Now in its current state, control is a much more manageable matchup.

perhaps Spelltwine simply to reuse one of your cards an maybe an opponent's.

Plus, opponents wouldn't be running any worthwhile sorceries or instants to warrant a cmc 6 on.

Doom Blade mainboard could be Go for the Throat . GftT allows you to kill a Twin target without worry of an opposing Spellskite . Blade can knock of Robots, whereas GftT can't .Dismember would work handily against many Robots, save Master of Etherium and Etched Champion . Meta call, I suppose

Smother is very good in modern. Also, with modern being relatively creature light isn't Crypt Incursion a little too cute. Speaking of cute I feel like Quicken could do work in this deck.

The worst matchups for this deck are the ones with creatures, so I'm hedging my bets with incursion.

Love mill in modern I'm in the making if ally mill just for fun but maybe a card to test out is Haunting Echoes for a finisher I believe once you have milled them a little
