The Mimeoplasm

Commander / EDH

ynalak7

One of my favorite Commander decks, The Mimeoplasm is a control deck that specializes in resiliency and raw power.

You ideally want to start the game with some mana ramp or looting cards. Another common start is to discard or Entomb a fat creature or Praetor to your graveyard and then reanimate it. This can be done as early as turn 2.

Mid game is when you want to be dropping threats and simultaneously neutralizing opponents threats. Continue to sculpt each player's graveyard, but don't dump everything at once - you don't want to lose to Bojuka Bog.

One late game setup includes Cephalid Coliseum + Life from the Loam for silly amounts of card advantage and filtering. Sticking a Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur or Damia, Sage of Stone is also an important step to taking over the late game. Just keep burying your opponents in card advantage and firing off your sweepers, counterspells, and threats.

The win con is a pseudo-combo and there are many routes to victory. Most involve summoning The Mimeoplasm and using its second clone ability on Lord of Extinction (Remember Lord of Extinction's power/toughness counts even in the graveyard). This allows for easy lethal commander damage. Combine with Gaea's Revenge for a nigh unkillable hasty win con, and mix in Filth in your graveyard with Urborg in play and you have a straight path to the face. Other fun targets include Tornado Elemental and Looter il-Kor.

This deck has a pretty inevitable clock if there is no graveyard disruption. Use The Mimeoplasm only as a last resort or to win the game with, otherwise the deck chugs along quite nicely on its own.

Happy mimicking!
