What are your thoughts on infinite combos? I ask because you have 2 that are incomplete. One which you have mentioned and the other that you mentioned in your description.

You and I have a very similar take on Olivia Voldaren though different. I'd recommend dropping Blade of the Bloodchief . (Trust me, it never works that well because they always kill what it's on before you can get much of a benefit.) Instead add something that can make an immediate impact when equipped to her, Basilisk Collar , Gorgon Flail , Sword of Kaldra , and anything else that gives deathtouch will allow Olivia to wreck face.

One of the best things of Black is the pain draw. Necropotence , Underworld Connections , Seizan, Perverter of Truth , Bloodgift Demon , Harvester of Souls , and Phyrexian Arena are the ones I use.

There's more I can cover but I think I'll just link Team Blade and you can see how I went with it.

I run a really similar deck, running mono black, and Anowon, the Ruin Sage as the commander. The main problem decks heavy in black have is mana ramp, and I feel like this deck could use a good bit more of it. Heres some things I think would really help:

+Nirkana Revenant Vampire mana doubler. I'd consider this a must in your deck honestly.+Gilded Lotus One of the best ramp cards black has access to.+Gauntlet of Power Another great doubler, can be sketchy though if your playgroup plays a lot of heavy black.

Expedition Map can grab your cabal coffers or urborg, if you feel that's worth it.

Necropotence seems like an odd exclusion, that card simply wins games, and is pretty cheap to pick up.I can't fault you for not running sanguine and exquisite at the same time, but IMO, Sanguine Bond is the better card if you're going to run just one of them. Makes it a one shot with Blood Tribute , and doubles Exsanguinate and Bloodchief Ascension damage. I never really like just pure lifegain cards really, too many ways to get around it. Go for that damage!

-Blade of the Bloodchief As poster above said, this will almost never be worth it.-Nirkana Cutthroat 6 mana for a 4/3 deathtouch seems really underwhelming, and can't imagine you'd wanna spend enough mana to get her to level 3.-Goblin Bombardment I don't see a way for you to abuse this.I'm not a huge fan of Triskelion in here, though he does have a few synergies with Rakish Heir and such. Not sure it's enough to justify him, so many good black creatures you could run in his spot for the same mana. Grave Titan , Rune-Scarred Demon , Sheoldred, Whispering One , Massacre Wurm , etc.

Here's my version of the deck, Vampires, Vampires Everywhere, feel free to have a look.

Necropotence in a black deck that can gain life is a must. Also Crypt Ghast is another good mana fixer. His extort reminder text doesn't block him from comander color rules. (Not sure if you already knew that so I just wanted to mention it). I agree that Blade of the Bloodchief gets killed too fast to help.

Shizo, Death's Storehouse would be a great land for this deck.

Oversold Cemetery can also be good for getting creatures from the graveyard back to your hand at no cost.

Otherwise, this deck is looking good!

Hmmmm.....I do have a large number of legendary creatures. Shizo, Death's Storehouse could be a nice addition for when Cover of Darkness is destroyed.

I've been considering Oversold Cemetery for some time, but haven't picked one up yet. Adding it to the sideboard until I'm able to get it.

Thanks for the awesome ideas!

Erebus and his Whip might also be great additions, since you have many black permanents. Plus, Phyrexian Obliterator might be good too. Btw, have you also thought about Mimic Vat to keep pumping out vampire tokens?

September 10, 2013 7:01 p.m.

cupofnoodles good suggestion. Mimic Vat + Malakir Bloodwitch = jank.

I tried Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet for a while, but found him too expensive and scary. People almost immediately took care of him over anything else, even if the other things on board were more threatening. Erebus & his Whip sound like good additions too, as does Phyrexian Obliterator . My only worry with the Obliterator is that it will pull too much aggression too early. I'll ponder it!

As for the Mimic Vat , I love the idea! Hadn't thought about it before. It's definitely going on the list.

Heres an Anowon Variant that I run.

I'd try to find room for a Gauntlet of Power , as the deck is almost mono black it would help ramp significantly, and you're already running caged sun so why not. =P

Rise of the Dark Realms is amazing. As is Grave Betrayal .

You're already running plenty of tutors, necropotence and arena, you could probably afford to cut Sign in Blood , kinda underwhelming for edh imo.

I agree with adding Kalitas, even if he is a huge threat, one of the best vampires there is, crazy to exclude him, haha. I also like Liliana Vess , 2 potential tutors for 5 mana is pretty solid when you're running lots of combos, and that's not counting her other abilities.

Just some random thoughts.

The best Vampire weapon of all time is absent. You should add Blade of the Bloodchief :D

jpeloquin says... #13

hahaha! True, jkweaver. Blade of the Bloodchief is an awesome card, but I found that people didn't let it sit on the board very long because it is ridiculous on almost every one of my creatures. Compare that to Illusionist's Bracers , from which only 7 of my creatures really benefit. Then again, I've been looking at removing Sorin Markov because he's a douche... Maybe I'll put the Blade back in.

Well in my experience, if a card demands an immediate answer like the blade does, it's always worth running. If they waste removal on that, well that's something else that will survive. And if they don't deal with it. Well that's a problem too. :D

I'm building a simular deck and have added Spine of Ish Sah to deal with enchantments. Together with a Shattering Pulse (which is also very handy in other situations) you have yourself a 'destroy anything' combo.

If you want to put some hate on opponents add Havoc Festival . I to have a Commander with Olivia and I find people rage when it is played. It is very fun to see decks running Oloro, Ageless Ascetic to lose the hard earned life.

Havoc Festival is a fun card and was in Olivia for a while. However, with Wound Reflection it reads "each opponent dies." I already have a couple of those combos in my deck to play against those pesky life gain folk. My issue is that I often find myself paying life for things (and by "things" I mean drawing cards), and halving my life total isn't ideal. Even with the Festival out, I will probably die before it kills my opponents. :( Though, thank you very much for looking and suggesting, Taker4699!

Additionally, another fun card to screw with the jerks who think Oloro, Ageless Ascetic is fun is Rain of Gore . It's one of my favorites.

Rain of Gore huh, I will have to go get one for my deck now. Thanks for mentioning that.

Urza's Incubator seems like it could help you speed things up if you name Vampire.

I really like the idea of this deck, how well has it done for you in multiplayer games?

Also, have you thought about putting in Master of Cruelties? Seems like a very brutal card in this deck since you can equip him to get through unblocked. You can even make him a vampire too.

Swords of X and Y don't seem like too bad of an idea as well.
