Went 3-1 at my first FNM since Return to Ravnica, splitting top 2 prizing for 5 packs each.
played against Jeskai control rounds 1 and 4. Make a Stand and Tajic were great out of the sideboard against Clarion and would have trumped Cannonade if someone had cast it. I boarded in Vivien both times and never really wanted to draw her; the deck might be too low to the ground. 5 mana should be putting immense pressure into play vs control, i.e. Trostani or Loxodon. She could probably just be the last Knight of Autumn as a way to naturalize while still applying pressure. Dawn of Hope suffered from the same problem of not being worth the mana investment, though I'm not sure what it should be. Against control decks I don't ever want to be not impacting the board and my clock on t2. I think I'll try a one of Assure//Assemble just to try it out as anti-sweeper tech that still has relevance when I don't have board presence (being able to cast Assemble on a control player's end step also seems ideal).
I didn't like Hazda Marshal vs control, which is why it was my white 1-drop of choice past the Legion's Landings. The card did not put enough pressure into play before they had Clarion mana, at which point it would be irrelevant. I will try Dauntless Bodyguards moving forward, since it does twice as much damage in pre-Clarion turns and has decent relevance later-game.
Considering the prevalence of Deafening Clarion, I will be including Adanto Vanguard mainboard over Knight of Grace. After talking to other GW players we unanimously feel that the archetype already has a good GB matchup.
Second match was against a green stompy deck splashing for Assassin's Trophy, which was a decent matchup. Played some really good games with a lot of combat math. My deck had a decent time going large enough to compete in combat with even a Galta. Another matchup where Hazda Marshal was bad.
Match 3 was vs another GW aggro-leaning deck: a complete brew with Vine Mares/Carnage Tyrants and enchantments, kind of like a standard bogles deck. Disruption felt really important that match, with Conclave Tribunal being an all-star since opponent never drew a Carnage Tyrant or an early Vine Mare.
