food for thought - right now you only have 4 artifacts in the deck and they all cost you quite alot, rendering Ensoul Artifact useless.

one of the most solid builds mono blue ive seen yet - although I dont agree with everything I respect your completeness and you have a lot of good tips in the Descriptions. I agree though with Shadow02 that the Ensoul Artifact is not efficient since you only have 4 artifacts. i understand you can hit an ensoul with cloudform to make use of extra copies but you cant control that.

In most mono blue builds i noticed people used Torrent Elemental = normally i would say i do NOT like torrent in mono blue builds BUT in your deck with a tiny black splash I actually could see it being useful - and i saw you talked about Murderous Cut in the comments but didnt have any in your deck. Murderous cut would work well with torrent so you can exile him and bring him back, and also torrent can be sacd to profaner, since he is 5 toughness that would wipe most creatures off the board.

I also like this build a lot, I think we are forgetting about the 4 Darksteel Citadel which makes Ensoul Artifact pretty useful in this deck.

nah i remember the darksteel thats why i said 4 but for some reason i actually blanked and forgot about bident and hall of triumph. so it actually might be pretty good in that case because there are 7 total artifacts. althought i would like +1 bident, and his 4 slot is low already so it would fit.

Have you thought about using Fated Infatuation? I think it could be powerful with Master of Waves.

Personally, I don't like Darksteel Citadel and Ensoul Artifact in this deck. Since you have a couple cards that are and Darksteel Citadel just feels like a bad colorless land. Sure having a 5/5 indestructible beater is amazing but it really sucks when you cannot play Shorecrasher Elemental. I rather have a playset of Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Also, if you have to play Pearl Lake Ancient against control decks you are probably too deep in the hole against them.

I do like the Profaner of the Dead in the sideboard for aggro deck and the new G/W devotion lol. +1

As you are mono-blue, semi devotion, why no Thassa's Rebuff?

Negate is usually always better for what you want to do - which is counter their Killspells

Nice deck mate. Just a thought, has Frost Walker been considered? Yes, it can't be targeted, a dam shame that, but it's a 4/1 elemental for two! I'd suggest swapping it with either Strauts Dancer, although I can see the pro's of that guy, or the Ensoul Artifact(Would allow you to get rid of those Citadel's too...). Again, great deck, good to see it's return.

I dont like Cloudform, The downside with Master of Waves seems to high.

Mirror Mockery looks really useful here. It's hard to ignore with Master of Waves's etb ability and the ability to slam down a blocker against enemies when they swing... It'll also draw the enchantment hate over Thassa, God of the Sea if I understand correctly.

Doesn't four main board Thassa seem too much? I guess one can help you scry away the rest, but three or even two looks optional. Maybe just switch two with some side board cards in case someone runs a ton of hate?

SpikedEggnog says... #13

Yeah i'd prolly run 2 or 3 but old mono blue devo decks did run 4 sometimes. it depends on personal preference I guess, but in the current Meta 4 in the mainboard seems a tad excessive.

Four Thassa is because decks were full of enchantment-hate in RTR-THS Standard. You could prolly run more or less depending on your meta. Rule of thumb: The more Abzan Charm and Utter End around, the more Thassas you need.

SpikedEggnog says... #17

Yeah that's why I said in the current meta 4 seems a bit excessive. But like you said it depends on what decks you are playing most. I like 3 copies its a happy medium.

I don't think you'll be casting that Elemental on turn 3 if you're running nykthos + darksteel citadel + swamps. Remember that Udevotion was 100% about tempo. Taking turns off to set up your manabase defeats your game plan.

I agree with some previous comments, I'm not sure Ensoul Artifact has a place in this deck, as in my experience it needs a deck built around it, like a deck I piloted around rotation, with Scuttling Doom Engine, Daring Thief, and Chief Engineer...

Cloudform seems also wildly random to me, as I played it in a GU rogue Manifest deck with lackluster results: without a sustainable way to know what you are going to Cloudform, it ends up being neutrally useful, not an advantage staple...

I'd suggest more copies of Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx in lieu of the Darksteel Citadel, and more copies of Bident of Thassa to ensure sustained card draw. Aqueous Form can yield sustainable scrying which complements Thassa's, and comboes with the Bident (different turn phases, versatility in stacking draw/scry triggers during combat).

For removal, I personnally like Polymorphist's Jest which will oftentimes n-by-1 the opponent, whereas Reality Shift is not very effective against decks full of creatures, and sometimes you trade your card and mana for a free bigger menace than the exiled creature...

Anyway, +1 for the Dimir originality and your description full of useful advice!

I just want to say that Mirror Mockery is insane with Master of Waves.

The reason why classic MUD won't work no matter how hard you try is the lack of UU 2-drops in Standard. Mindreaver is unplayable. The MUD decks of old RELIED on Frostburn Weird and Tidebinder Mage to be efficient and set up the insanity. Also, after playtesting with Shorecrasher Elemental a little bit... the card sucks. It's a devotion helper and nothing else. On the other hand, Nightveil Specter had evasion and stole cards from your opponent. I know it's gotta be tempting to use Master of Waves again but it's simply not going to get there competitively in a build like this. Nowhere near enough aggro and the creatures lack the abilities that made MUD so great.

That said, I still think Master of Waves himself is a great card. There is undoubtedly some deck out there waiting to be built that maximizes the use of 4-5 tokens instead of 10-12. It seems like people want to go for the homerun early, but maybe a lot more control and a lot less forced devotion is the way to go.

Also I definitely agree with PhyrexianScience that Mirror Mockery is insane.

I won't be playing Cloudform in my build and I agree that the Ensoul Artifact is a big iffy placement.

I will be using Palace Familiar in place of your cloudform. And I will be using 2x Bident of Thassa just because it's so good.

Nice deck build though. +1 from me

I think there is something we all have been missing out on here. I like this build, and i think it needs something else, better than Ensoul Artifact... I mean Mirror Mockery though. Master of Waves + Mirror Mockery is awesome! It sets up the turn 5 kill leaving mana up for Negate or morphing up Stratus Dancer to prevent removal. BTW Frost Walker gets buffs from Master of Waves!
