With the release of some interesting cards for Pauper in Amonkhet, there was a couple of cards that looked like it would be fun in a Aristocrat build, namely Doomed Dissenter and Supernatural Stamina. I decided to put together a mono-black variation, the only advantage over BG or BW is perhaps more consistency.
The Sacrifice Outlets: Carrion Feeder - Our #1 beatstick. Easy to make him a 3/3, and beyond. Just remember no blocks, so just swing away!
Bloodthrone Vampire
- Can get big fast, better to do it on tempo so she can potentially take down the likes of Gurmag Angler.
Vulturous Aven
- a 2/3 flyer and a Sign in Blood all in one card, it almost a Mulldrifter to be honest.
The Sacrificial Lambs: Doomed Dissenter,
Sultai Emissary
, and Butcher Ghoul are our value creatures we can sacrifice when needed. Perilous Myr can be sacked as a removal when needed.
Sanitarium Skeleton
is our grateful dead that can keep coming back over and over in the late game.
More Sacrifice Value: Undying Evil and one Unearth help keep our Lambs fresh for more killing! I'm thinking about slotting in Supernatural Stamina here as well to try out the new tool. The advantage is creatures may not have +1/+1 when they come back, but the +2 before damage can double as a potential combat trick removal against opponent's attacking creatures.
Removal: Bone Splinters and Chainer's Edict. A decent option could be Tragic Slip so we are not having to sacrifice our creature resources.
Draw Power: Since we're working with mono black, I decided that the best card for our draw engine would be Sign in Blood. Another possibility could be Scarscale Ritual, which seems more flexible here than Altar's Reap, not needing to necessarily sacrifice our needed resources, but can still make our 1/1's instantly into 2/2's.
Land: Swamps, one Bojuka Bog and
Haunted Fengraf
.
Sideboard: A lot can go in here, but I'll just mention a few great options: Innocent Blood, Duress, and
Sylvok Lifestaff
.
Wicked Reward
is really good too if we are needing to go more aggro.
Thank you for reading! Let me know what you think, I am open to suggestions!
