A Midrange Burn deck built around mana efficient discard/draw affects to trigger Madness, discard graveyard playable cards, and churn through your deck.
Playtesting & Changes
May 16th, 2024: There is a lot of possible adjustments for this deck once I get into some gameplay in the near future: Collective Brutality and Inti, Seneschal of the Sun can be clucky, Claim / Fame may be better as a sideboard, add The Raven Man (might be a horrible idea), and honestly the original idea was to make this a Midrange deck, so eventually the whole strategy could change. Stay tuned as I report back about its performance.
May 17th, 2024: After looking into some other Madness decks, I have decided to go more burn heavy, and less reliance on the Madness strategy. Adding Scrapwork Mutt, Bomat Courier, and Vampire's Kiss for consistent and aggressive discard affects and with the addition of all these cards one of the best burn cards in the format, Shrapnel Blast, is a no brainer. Since we lean mostly red now, I added Ramunap Ruins to our mana base, and with so many discard plays Ox of Agonas becomes a great payoff.
May 17th, 2024 (Afternoon): After some playtesting with the Ox, 2 feels like a good amount. Went down on lands and put in some Spikefield Hazard
.
May 18th, 2024: Did some playtesting with Mayhem Devil (not good), and what I want to do with the Ox in this deck is cheeky but I think it is a bit much. Began playtesting with Risk Factor, and WOW! this card turbocharges this deck, really happy I made this change.
Sideboard Strategy
In my opinion, our main cards we would want to move out of the main board when we go to game two would be Play with Fire, Bomat Courier, & Risk Factor as they have their own weaknesses against certain archetypes. Soon when I have some real life gameplay, I will have a better idea for what is my weakest cards with each matchup.
Thoughtseize - Great substitution against Control or Grindy Combo Strategies (such as Fires).
Kari Zev's Expertise - Turn the tables on Midrange or Aggro, that have powerful creatures.
Ob Nixilis, the Adversary - Very versatile card for our strategy, might move to three in the sideboard with the fact that it can slow Aggro down and makes it awkward for counter-heavy strategies.
Magebane Lizard - For Phoenix decks, but could come in handy in other matchups.
Rampaging Ferocidon - Specifically for Amalia Combo.
Roiling Vortex - All types of matchup, Amalia, Rakdos Midrange (against Sheoldred/Preacher), and even Control (against Wandering Emperor/Absorb)
