If you're looking for a strong mid-range deck that operates away from the current standard meta, I suggest this BUG control deck. The idea of this deck is to ramp into your planeswalkers and protecting them with a mix of kill and counter spells.
CREATURES:
Sylvan Caryatid- a great turn 2 mana ramp/fixer that doubles as a decent hexproof wall.
Courser of Kruphix- This card basically allows you to gain card advantage by scrying the lands on top of your library to the field. This card can be insane when paired with a copy of Kiora. The fact that it also gains life and is a nice 2/4 body is very relevant in some matchups.
Aetherling- Another win condition.
SPELLS:
Ultimate Price- a cheaper hero's downfall.
Devour flesh- a nice kill spell that gets around creatures with protection of hexproof. Can be underwhelming in some matchups and sided out.
Hero's Downfall- straight forward no nonsense kill spell.
Dissolve- protects your board and stops your opponents threats.
Essence Scatter- a cheap creature counter spell. but stricter weaker card than dissolve that can counter everything.
Syncopate- counterspell that can exile cards. (chandra's pheonix)
Abrupt Decay- A well adjusted card to the meta, can be used to break control's detention sphere or banishing lights, or just another spell to kill a cheap creature or their courser.
Thoughtseize- Can be good or bad, mainly used in this deck to protect planeswalkers against opponent's hand.
PLANESWALKERS:
Ashiok- The best part of ashiok is that she is only 3 mana, the cheapest planeswalker in standard. She is great against all matchups in my opinion, she can flood the board with creatures from the opponent, or steal control's only copy of aetherling and exile their win conditions.
Kiora- the main baby of this deck, she can put an opponent's permanent in a stasis, which is really relevent when all you are trying to do is buy time for your planeswalkers. Her minus ability can help you dig for answers or just ramp along with courser. Her emblem of dropping 9/9 krakens is probably how you are going to win most games.
Jace- helps you draw into your win conditions and answers, the +1 ability can be overkill against small creature decks.
Vraska- I heard destroying any nonland permanent is very powerful.
Please leave comments or ideas. I'm probably bringing this to GP Chicago.
