As a new burn player what is the attraction of Grim Lavamancer?
I can't see how it is the most efficient, seeing as it is doesn't have haste, the ability costs R, tap and 2 cards in your graveyard, to me it seems extremely inefficient and is easy to answer.

Thoughts on Browbeat?Thinking of including it in my rw burn deck.

It gives opponents the choice, which is always bad because they pick the best choice for them

This is a fantastic deck, strong and well thought out! The splash for is amazing for Bump in the Night and Self-Inflicted Wound. I think i will feature this on my own build.

magicdai Aren't both options amazing for a burn deck? You either burn them, which is part of your win condition, or you draw 3. Which is stright up gas.

Browbeat is bad for several reasons. No 1 - it gives the choice to your opponent limiting your interaction options nr2 it's a sorcery and expensive one. Using it will live you open for unexpected rhino even if you have skullcrack in your hand limiting your interaction options. Nr3 For 3 mana you want sth that can win you the game. This will not kill your opponent and only slow you down limiting your interaction options. You can sense a theme there I hope :) burn became so good recently because wizards printed red cards that can answer threats. Browbeat does not. Don't fall into the trap of thinking it will draw you your answer on time. It won't .

What are you answering? The only thing you should be interacting with is the opponents face. Burn also has the problem where it runs out of gas very fast. Browbeat may be a bit slow, but if you have more than three lands out it's a great card.
I'm going to playtest it in my modern burn deck before I actually stick behind that argument.

Stop fighting in my comment section.
In my opinion, Browbeat costs way too much mana to be a consideration. 3 mana spells have to be incredibly good to see play in burn, and the only spell that is that good isn't legal in Modern (Sulfuric Vortex)

Any sideboard idea for current meta post April 4 banlist? Yours seems suitable against aggro creature deck.

Let me level with you guys here: I basically don't play this anymore. I'll leave it up, but I haven't played Modern since the Twin ban, and I'm going to be playing around with Thopter Sword in the future, so don't expect any more updates.

What's the point of cards like Arid Mesa if you have no plains? wouldn't you just use a regular mountain?

I was looking up to see if a single deck would be as fast as mine. This one isnt even close. Burn is not ment to have many late game responses. You have to burn em out by turn 3 so they either have to play super defensive or have to scoop because you have them down to next to no life and know that you can take a few points of damage and just keep bolting face. 2 drops and tap cards dont do that or better be a damn good card that cant be targeted or removed. By average my turn 4-5 is a win with a bolt face. You did offer good advice though and I am very glad I found this.
