The one with all of the Planeswalkers...
The main idea behind this build is to get your little ouphe--Gilder Bairn--out and start doubling your friends' loyalty!
This is my multi-player deck of choice, but it is almost competitive combo in semi-casual 1v1.
Despite the fact that planeswalkers draw a lot of hate in multiplayer games, you aren't very threatening until you're ultimating them on the turns that you play them. The early drop walkers--Xenagos, the Reveler and
Kiora, the Crashing Wave
both can be played diplomatically. If your opponents waste spells to get rid of them, that's less removal your valuable walkers like Ral Zarek and Garruk, Primal Hunter have to deal with.
Since your ouphe has a nice butt, attacking may be reasonable to get to his untap ability, but cards like Cryptolith Rite can tap him safely. Cryptolith Rite is particularly useful in this build because you can use the mana towards his ability.
While the ouphe is the critical part of your combo for getting value from your planeswalkers--sometimes he needs to block for them. Friends can win the game without him, but certainly not the other way around.
The Chain Veil was in here strictly for flavor, but it actually does work wonders with particular walkers out (looking at you Ral and Nissa!)
My brother recently gave me his copy of Doubling Season so i have been fooling around with that instead.
Ready for some F.R.I.E.N.D.-ly flavor?
Chandler -- Ral Zarek
This is the most important friend in the deck. Since he comes in at 4 loyalty, doubling his loyalty lets you ultimate him the same turn that you play him. Extra turns means more friends! (or fewer to play against...) His first ability lets you manipulate others, Gilder Bairn or, in silly situations, The Chain Veil. It's hard to run any more than 4 because this deck only has forests, dorks, and
Oath of Nissa
.
Monica --
Nissa, Worldwaker
Both of her (+) abilities make doing things easy, but her ultimate is the reason to play her. 3mana Nissa is great early drop, but as a late drop with doubling season is insane.
Ross -- Garruk, Primal Hunter
His ultimate is pretty beefy, but available mana is the blood of the combo in this deck. Making dudes is also useful.
Phoebe -- Kiora, Master of the Depths
Both Kiora walkers are pretty good--but
Kiora, the Crashing Wave
is a better early drop and can make a short-term ally out of an opponent by "protecting" their creature (while you have one fewer potential attacker to worry about). Both versions have very scary emblems when you make it to ultimate.
Joey -- Xenagos, the Reveler
2/2 haste satyrs are good bodies to chump or perhaps sneak a quick bit of damage, but adding mana for his +1 means Nissa, Garruk, or Chandra are going to be easy to cast with mana leftover. He is usually the first walker I play. Feel free to gamble the ultimate for the eldrazi--just another reason it's in there!
Rachael -- Nahiri, the Harbinger
Obviously.
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn as Gunther.
Finally, I'm still occasionally running Chandra, but I'm looking to replace her (Chandra, Torch of Defiance, perhaps?) since I only like her for her ultimate in multiplayer... I was initially drawn to Chandra when I ran Savor the Moment to copy the spell with her (-2) for extra, untap-less turns. Then after a while, I liked to use that card for things in the sideboard like Destructive Revelry or Tezzeret's Gambit (which brings her loyalty back to what it was, puts 2 loyalty on any other friends, and lets you draw 2 cards.) Her ultimate can bring the game back to your favor--it is especially good with 3 opponents or so, but it has the power to rid the board of some threatening creatures and lower all of your opponents' life totals.
I am definitely interested to see what else people can do with Gilder Bairn and other planeswalkers!
