So I want to build a deck using the power of the color Black. Lots of removal, lots of graveyard re-use, and Nightmare. I would also like a minor theme of cards getting more powerful for the number of Swamps I have.

I don't want it to be too powerful for my casual playgroup, yet my strategy must be capable of handling the decks relying on one of the following:

Soul Warden, Rancor, Lightning Bolt and/or Lightning Helix, Boros Reckoner, Master of the Feast, Lingering Souls, an early Giant Adephage or other large monster.

So I finally made the change official. Without Pack Rat, my planeswalker Liliana of the Dark Realms was not as effective. I often found myself wishing it was a creature. While I do lament the loss of versatility, I've replaced it with a creature that has additional roles: Lashwrithe.
