Question: Have you considered adding White for Rally the ancestors? I do think that It would help you out by being able to drain a bunch of life from Sac outlets. I'm also a little worried that you lack a serious amount of interaction pre sideboard, because you won't be able to really deal with stuff like siege rhinos. Just a thought!

P.S.- Why no Kalastria Healer? It would add the ability to get even more life drainage from the triggers with rally!

RedAndGold01, I haven't really been able to do much testing with it even this way. I'm still updating it as I'm typing this.

"Lack a serious amt. of interaction pre sideboard." What do you mean exactly?

As in you don't have any removal or ways to interact with your opponent other than putting things on the board. Unfortunately, Zulaport Cutthroat doesn't match up very well against Siege Rhino. Perhaps some copies of Bone Splinters or Murderous Cut To kill your opponent's stuff?

RedAndGold01 I've tried that build as well, but get yelled at for using more than the 4 CoCo.

In a previous build I had 2 Ruinous Path, 2 Evolutionary Leap OR 2 Bone Slinters. I had the creature base less to match. I think I was down the 4 Merciless Executioner to make up for the spells.

Which do you think is best?

I also tried a mono-black build that used a bit more "removal."

Merciless Executioner sounds good. It'll help out on that front.

RedAndGold01 I have the 1 duress in the main like the pro tour deck did. I think Merciless Executioner makes up for the lack of "kill spells."

I feel like this deck needs Hangarback Walker. You can sacc it, to drop tokens for more saccable creatures, or you can play it on zero, so it will die and trigger liliana to flip, or the haruspex to draw. Maybe try Bone Splinters as a sac outlet and removal. And Altar's Reap for card draw. Solid deck so far. +1 from me!

Sergal actually was just thinking about going back to Abzan for Rally.

Sergal says... #10

You could do that to. But keep those cards in mind if you change your mind! Good luck with this deck!

Lol you running red just for those Rending Volleys? Aside from my snide remark, I like this aristocrats deck. Only the realest of value here. +1

Also a few sideboard cards.

With the fetches and battle lands available to G/B, red is just an added bonus.

interesting concept, I would run only 2 Catacomb Sifter, as it is a little expensive, and add in Rot Shambler

my apologies, I had thought Catacomb Sifter was Brood Butcher but Catacomb Sifter is a good card, both are good really

out of curiosity, are you going for a token, sacrafice type deck or, what are you going for?

syandell86 says... #16

Sallymander, it centers around Nantuko Husk, saccing creatures and getting them back with Rally.

The tokens help pump Husk up. I don't necessarily need more tokens, but the ones I have work well.

While I like Fiery Conclusion-ing a stolen creature, I think Act of Treason may be too clunky.Maybe Yasova Dragonclaw since it can also contribute to combat (but it does cost R more for the activation of it all.)

On the whole note, I might go with Collateral Damage over Fiery Conclusion since it can hit players too. And if you're in R already, Humble Defector is a great card to sac and net even more crazy card advantage.

I have Fiery Conclusion in the board for Siege Rhino and Anafenza mostly.

Good call. Those are important targets to hit that slipped my mind.

It's mostly that I know my LGS plays a bunch of Abzan and the Act of Treason/Fiery Conclusion helps with that a lot.

Kind of depends on the meta, but mine seems to need it.

My board is built for Atarka Red, & Abzan mostly. Rending Volley thrown in bc of the Jeskai that shows up.

I run a very similar list to this and I cannot stress how important I feel the card Rogue's Passage is.

Nantuko Husk will inevitably do it's thing in getting massively huge but it's meaningless if you get chump blocked all of the time. I've actually considered changing the number of Rogue's Passage from two to four because of the number of games I would have won if I had actually drawn it.

Also I like Grim Haruspex in this list but I feel using more Eldrazi Scions and replacing him with Smothering Abomination is tad bit more powerful. Sure you have to pay one more mana and eat a creature every turn but it rewards you with a 4 power flyer and your deck wants you sacrificing your stuff anyway.

But in any regards your deck is good and if it wins who am I to say otherwise?

+1 from me.

January 12, 2016 9:12 a.m.

syandell86 says... #22

The issue there is Grim Haruspex draws off of any death and Abomination only draws off sacrifice.

I don't know how saccing a creature every turn would work out. I've only been able to get to one FNM.

Also, I updated to add a Rogue's Passage last night, but idk about 2 non-colored mana.

January 12, 2016 11:04 a.m.

AxelMarkov says... #24

In any case I think Rogue's Passage being a 2 or even as high as a 4 of isn't going to hurt your mana base too much. You've got a decently low curve and nothing is super mana hungry (Only a few cases of double black.)

Looking back at deck at past standard seasons there was a Master of Cruelties deck that ran around with a full four copies of rogue's passage and the mana seemed fine then with the decks main creature being dual colored. In any case this is a very different standard season so the comparison may be a little off but the way I see it is that Innistrad/Return To Ravnica standard was much faster than the current standard metagame right now being almost completely four color centered deck so I think you could get away with 4.

I'll have more info when I run my list this Friday and see how Good/Bad my deck performs with 4 copies and I'll get back to you.

I did a bit of moving and shaking with some cards and ended up adding more token generators and some Smothering Abomination.
