My son runs a deck like this. He uses Sage of Hours + Sandsteppe Mastodon then utilized Roaring Primadox to return Sandsteppe Mastodon back to his hand.

Hi! I have also been brewing around an infinite sage of hours deck, and personally I think hardened scales is unnecessary, because to go infinite you want Ajani, Mentor of Heroes out and Citadel Siege, which will already get you plenty of counters. I'm brewing a similar deck that has a second infinite combo that makes as many 1/1 hornets as you want, while also playing a few powerful creatures to control the board. check it out if you want!

I'd say a Dictate of Karametra would be awesome in here! You play it on their end step and you'd have enough mana to get the combo up.

The problem with Dictate of Karametra is that it is just too high of a mana cost.

With all those mana dorks, I really like the idea of playing Elspeth, Sun's Champion as a second win condition to supplement your combo. It's not unbeatable by any stretch, but it's still very hard for most decks to win through it.

Love the idea, but what's your win condition? I don't see much that can really take their health, seeing as they could just block the Sage of Hours

Why is everyone trying to make the deck gimmicky? The deck is better as a control deck since you only care about beefing up a four creatures in the deck.

I have won games with a 30/30 Elvish Mystic in this deck the possibilities are endless for win cons.

Noix11 I just wanna know how flavor wise that works out, the Elvish mystic keeps riding a personal Elephant and then by the time he gets to gigantic eldrazi slaying proportions he's got is own mastodon pack?

Yes, that is exactly what happens. LOL :)

I would mainboard 1 aqueous form. You don't need a 30/30 elf if he's unblockable at 6/6.

Wouldn't Sunbond + Ordeal of Heliod on Sage of Hours make the turns come faster? I did a white deck on Sunbond/Ordeal of Heliod and flying creatures that worked suprisingly well provided I had Gods willing on hand when the doomblades came.

I just don't like how hight of a mana cost Sunbound is.

kanswercity That situation would never happen though. I run a similar deck I made with Sandsteppe Mastodon, Sage of Hours, and Roaring Primadox. If you for some reason play the Sandsteppe Mastodon and can't pick the Sage, remove all of the counters from it in response. It's an ability that works at instant speed. You don't have to have 5 counters on it to remove them, it just says "remove all counters from it". I also run a playset of Chord of Calling to fetch all of the combo pieces, since they're all creatures, with mostly mana ramp and planeswalkers as wincons. It can work easily like that, and I prefer it because I can keep it 2 colors along with me technically having "8" copies of each card to draw into with the Chords.

Anyways, about this deck though, it looks really nice. My only suggestion is sideboard Monastery Siege, the ultimate "you aren't killing anything of mine" card. Also good against any burn strategies. This deck doesn't need Sandsteppe Mastodon either. I think it's either pick one infinite combo or the other, there's not enough room for anything else if you try both and if you want it to be consistent.

I like the idea of Monastery Siege as a sideboard card. Thanks for the tips.

+1 from me. You should think about replacing Heliod's Pilgrim with Chasm Skulker, though. U/B is big right now, and black removal will give you headaches. A Skulker with Ordeal of Thassa will give U/B a headache.

I might try that. Thanks for the advice.

Can I be honest with you? Your combo would work WONDERS not as a single main deck winning strategy, but a inside the new Temur Infinity Combo.

That was you could incorporate Sage of Hours to the Temur deck and Sandstepp Mastodon and play both reliably to gain turns and bounce them all the time with sabertooth. Is a win-win for a already great new deck, a rogue variant people wont expect, SPECIALLY if you cast the mastodon using a tottaly uncalled for See the Unwritten. Its almost a green DTT, and will be ferocius with sabetooth in the field.

Its just and idea, great deck anyway. +1 :)

when i built sage of hours x4 i went with solidarity of heros x4, natures panopoly x4, ordeal of nylea x4, ordeal of thassa x2, aerial formation x3 and so on... solidarity of heros is a must since it double +1/+1 counters. so picture this, turn one hardened scales, turn 2 sage of hours, turn 3 target sage with natures panopoly giving it 3 +1/+1 counters and ordeal of nylea giving 2 +1/+1 swing for 2 more, fetch for 2 land or solidarity of hero's and get 2 for target + 6 for the ability ect. get my point?

at turn 3 you can make it so they will never take another turn again.

Is anyone playing Ugin's Nexus as a sideboard in Standard? Banishing Light should help with that, I suppose.

+1. Nice work.
