How about Sage of Hours + Sandsteppe Mastodon + Temur Sabertooth ? The sabertooth has prot, while the mastadon and sage combo off.

Gods Willing to stop sage from being removed, you are only running one playset of anything that will protect him from removal and your entire plan revolves around him staying on the board.

I originally ran Gods Willing over Elvish Mystic but ended up needing the ramp to stay competitive.

I ran this deck at FNM tonight and came in 2nd place. The only thing i changed was adding 2 taigams scheming instead of dromoka and heliods pilgrim. It helped me get rid of what i didn't need and find key parts in the combo

You actually ran this? That is awesome! I will take that into consideration.

All good and well, But Dramoka Bolsters, which means if you have anything other than the Sage, it won't work too well. But, Bow of Nylea allows for a +1/+1 for 2 mana. with Hardened Scales and Heroic, that adds up to minimum of 3X +1/+1 each turn. Also you NEED protection for the sage, without it, He will be targeted. otherwise +1 from me

leraanvistaan --> Heroic won't trigger from Bow of Nylea. With the Scales, you'll get 2 counters from the bow, Heroic or not.

I love this deck. I am more of a modern player. What would you switch out if it was modern card?

February 18, 2015 5:16 p.m.

Noix11 says... #10

Sorry can't really help you there. I currently don't know much about modern. If you or anyone else knows of any cards I wouldn't mind hearing about this either.

Noix11 - well i put something together quick and did some testing and seems pretty cool. Oh course I took all credit and wrote that you stole my idea :P

INFINITE TURNS in Modern

Let me know what you think. I know that modern is not your thing, but I do not think I changed too much.

The-Xellos Thanks for the look and the modern make-up. It looks pretty cool. :)

lightcarrier Bow of Nylea would trigger the heroic... you pay mana to use its ability (counts as a spell) and says "target creature", unless I'm reading it wrong?

leraanvistaan - I wish. If it was true this Sage of Hours would be banned.

402.5. Activated and triggered abilities aren't spells, and therefore can't be countered by anything that counters only spells. Abilities can be countered by effects that specifically counter abilities, as well as by the rules (for example, an ability with one or more targets is countered if all its targets become illegal). Static abilities don't use the stack and thus can't be countered at all.

I was asked this on my deck, why 3 Citadel Siege and Ajani, Mentor of Heroes and not 4.

I am assuming 3 Ajani, Mentor of Heroes just due to the fact you can only have one out at a time and after getting one out the others are sort of a dead draw. The only reason I see for 3 Citadel Siege is the mana cost and it also needs 2 white as oppose to others spells you have that only cost one of a color.

Have you ever tried 4 Citadel Siege?

I have tried 4 and I kept getting stuck with the mana problem, probably could have adjusted but I also like the low mana curve.

Why not run Sandsteppe Mastodon + Temur Sabertooth? These will also give you infinite turns with Sage after you hit 9 mana (with devotion stuff it isn't that bad though)

I just find it alot easier to pull this combo out over the Sandsteppe Mastodon+Temur Sabertooth.

+1. Cool concept. Might pop in a Treasure Cruise or two for draw.

tangey Noix11 I ran this deck once, and I found it a lot easier to use Roaring Primadox. Getting up to nine mana is a pain in the rear. But I never thought about using Ajani, Mentor of Heroes. Pretty cool, +1.

Is the wincon just getting so many counters on sage of hours you accidently swing a large number .

March 10, 2015 5:49 p.m.

Noix11 says... #25

That is the main wincon yes. Other than that there are options in the sideboard.
