How to play:

• Accelerate using Birds of Paradise and Eldrazi Spawn ( Spawning Breath , Nest Invader , and Brood Birthing )

• Get a Hornet Nest out on the field (either casting it or Eldritch Evolution for it)

• Blow up the field with a damage-based board wipe ( Blasphemous Act , Chain Reaction , Star of Extinction ). NOTE: Eldrazi Spawns/Scions "count double" for Blasphemous Act . The cost of the spell is calculated with the Spawns on the field, then you sac them to make mana for the spell.

• Enjoy your swarm of 1/1 flying deathtouch creatures

Backup plans:

• Flip a Westvale Abbey   utilizing Eldrazi Spawn

• Use Domri Rade to either dig through the deck for more creatures or have a big creature fight the Hornet Nest to create lots of Insects

• Use Huatli, Radiant Champion to dig through the deck very quickly if it survives a turn (should have enough creatures out to ult on her second turn)

• This deck can also go midrange quite well, especially after sideboarding. I've had many extended games where I've been able to come out on top through amassing enough creatures and the threat of Hornet Nest

Sideboard:

• Standard artifact/enchantment/graveyard hate

• Heroic Intervention is used against things that want to remove the Hornet Nest as you try to pop it (added benefit is that you keep your whole board after the wipe, though this sort of a "win harder" effect)

• Kessig Wolf Run swaps in for Westvale Abbey   against decks that run Ensnaring Bridge

• Damping Sphere for Tron or other decks with manlands and storm

• Kitchen Finks are excellent against burn and in games that go into midrange

• Vexing Shusher to say no to hard control and can be situationally good in midrange battles

• The cards to be swapped out are situational. Spawning Breath can be taken out fairly safely, especially if there are no 1-toughness creatures for you to deal with. Chain Reaction isn't very effective when creature counts are low and Star of Extinction can be too slow in some matchups. Brood Birthing can also sometimes be taken out if the spawns aren't as necessary or aren't living long enough to cast the Brood Birthing

Neat Interactions:

• A single red source and 4 Eldrazi Spawns is enough to cast Blasphemous Act due to the Spawns counting as cost reducers for the Blasphemous Act and then being able to be sac'd for mana

• Casting Eldritch Evolution on a Blisterpod feels great. You can fetch any creature in the deck with it and you retain the 1/1 body. Side note: Hornet Nest is not always the optimal creature to Eldritch Evolution for

• Casting Spawning Breath targeting a Hornet Nest can give you a 1/1 flying deathtouch at instant speed. Can be a great surprise for anyone attacking in with something big in the air. It also makes an Eldrazi Spawn for an extra body

• Board wiping with both a Hornet Nest and a Voice of Resurgence on the field creates the swarm of bees AND a very large Voice token

Non-budget version: Bees Knees

More-budget options:

• Best way to save money on this deck would be to cut white from it altogether. This particularly hurts the deck against control due to losing the Voice of Resurgence and the sideboard takes a major hit. In their place you can try things that were sometimes useful in previous incarnations of this deck: Hermit of the Natterknolls   are probably the closest replacement for the voices. Boros Reckoner , Hand of Emrakul , or mainboard Heroic Intervention were all used at some point.

• Loam Dryad can be used in place of Birds of Paradise , but it does feel kinda bad

• Huatli, Radiant Champion can be cut another Blisterpod , Spawning Breath , or Growth Spasm (or anything really, these are just some suggestions)
