Nice deck, +1. I've been playing Marath in TL for a good while now, so I hope I can pass on some of what I've learned.

Your maybeboard has some nice cards... you seem to be on the right track with those. Particularly Scavenging Ooze and Domri Rade.

Things I suggest you cut/change:

Farseek. Your dorks provide enough ramp. Dorks are also better for things like Domri Rade that like your deck to have lots of dudes.

Scab-Clan Mauler: Not good enough. I'd replace him with a creature that offers more utility, like Reclamation Sage, Stoneforge Mystic, Thornscape Battlemage, and don't forget about Nightshade Peddler! Soulbonded with Marath = fun times.

I also think you could cut Wojek Halberdiers. Again, I don't think he offers enough.

Since you're going to creature-rush route, I think you could maybe afford to play Treetop Village, Raging Ravine, Mutavault, etc. Depends on your manabase. Speaking of which, I suggest you run fetches and maybe Tectonic Edge.

Good luck with Marath!

True, maybe instead of Chained to the Rocks?

I would swap out the mana dorks for the better agro creatures like Kird Ape, Loam Lion, and Skinshifter. Nightshade Peddler turns Marath into a machine gun... find room! Ulvenwald Tracker is very good, as your creatures will always be better than theirs. For some silly reason people don't play enough Mirror Entity. This card is a powerhouse in TL.

I like 1-drop mana dorks because, if your land is right, you can often guarantee a t2 Marath. I do this in my TL Marath deck and it's extremely powerful.

Nightshade Peddler is better than Ulvenwald Tracker. The tracker isn't all that necessary because you already have access to so much removal.

I'd consider Knight of the Reliquary and Flame Slash.

I'm not sure and you may correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think your combo works. The equipment has a clause that says "if it isn't a mana ability" and you have to pay mana to activate marath's ability.

Apart from that a very nice deck.

So, how the combo works is thus: Marath, Will of the Wild + Illusionist's Bracers + Ashnod's Altar

Marath, Will of the Wild (3 counters)-> Pay one and remove a counter (2 counters) to put a 1/1 into play, Illusionist's Bracers makes it two 1/1's (2 tokens)

-> Sacrifice one of the creatures (1 token) to Ashnod's Altar for two mana (2 floating)

-> Use one mana (1 floating) to remove a counter from Marath (1 counter) to put a +1/+1 counter on Marath himself, the bracers make it two counters (3 counters)

-> Use the floating 1 mana (0 floating) to remove a counter from Marath (2 counters) to make two more 1/1 creatures (3 tokens)

-> Sacrifice one of the 1/1 tokens (2 tokens) for 2 more mana (2 floating), use to increase the counters on Marath and then create more creatures

-> Repeat indefinitely

The main thing is that Marath can target himself to increase the number of counters on himself. Also, for each 1 mana you put in you get 4 colorless. It works because you're not using the Bracers on the Ashnod's Altar, you use it to double the counters placed on Marath and the number of creatures he puts into play.

Ok thanks for your explanation. The combo works just fine. I was misunderstanding what a mana ability is.

Like I already said, very nice deck.
