This is a competitive multiplayer EDH deck intended for multiplayer play that attempts to invoke the memory of classic vintage magic.

I've been working and fine-tuning a Melek deck shortly after he was spoiled. I've been through many variations on the theme and after testing all the major variations, I've found that this setup has been my favorite - and I've stuck with it for a little over 6 months now. To me, to get this deck to play the way I had envisioned (to relive my memories of playing Funker in Vintage) you needed to have the cards the deck needed. This thing isn't budget-friendly at all. In MTG Tracker, it tells me this this is around 4 grand. I'll breakdown my choices a little further in the second post.

Basically the goal is as follows:

1) Sift through the deck and play as many mana rocks and cheap spells as the table allows.2) Use cheap wheel effects to draw into more cards - and generate big mana by playing mana geyser, Drain Power, Islands, high tide, turnabout and candelabra. 3) Use big mana for big plays (Melek fork chains, prosperity to mill opponents, reiterate combo, Guttersnipe damage).

My metagame frequently features 4 - 8 player games with players and decks of varying skill levels. In smaller games, I've found that blue decks with more counterspells (and fewer opponent's turns between their untap steps) tend to be better. This deck doesn't really thrive in such counter-heavy, two or three player situations. This deck seems like it might get stomped by really aggressive decks - and it can, but in my experience it usually doesn't. There's a couple of reasons why I believe this is the case (at least in my group):

1) Having access to instant bounce makes me a gamble to attack

2) Having few permanents out on the board usually makes one or more opponents seem like more of an immediate threat.

3) People like drawing cards. My group knows I run nearly a dozen draw-7's in this deck - and while I benefit the most from them, opponents like the option of keeping me in the game to accelerate them.

Also, take note that there's no extra turn cards in this build - feel free to add your own, but my turns already take long enough without them.
