Sideboard

This one might be a long(er) one, so buckle in.

The idea for this came from the appearance of Creeping Chill in modern as a dredge staple.

Creeping Chill currently only has one or two answers to it in the standard format. these come in the form of Repudiate / Replicate , or Unmoored Ego . (When Chill is being played off the mill effect) No one is currently playing Repudiant in the meta, and Ego is more often than not a sideboard card. This means that (at least in game 1) you can reliably hit for 12 dmg pretty consistently without fear of interaction. Since standard can be heavily reliant on shock lands, like Stomping Ground , this can efficiently start the game with an opponent only having around 6 life which isn't too big of a hurdle to overcome.

Since Dredge isn't in standard, we are forced to use mechanics such as surveil and self mill as a poor substitute. This means that blue is a must have color for the deck.

Originally, I was going to splash red similarly to modern where instead of cards like Conflagrate finishing people off with cards like Banefire or Electrodominance ; however, the mana simply can't seem to support this idea. Instead, I dove into green because of cards like Wilderness Reclamation in the slot for Conflagrate . This change allows the extra mana neccessary for the activated ability costs of many of the creatures that need to hit the field since many of the standard creatures don't just "cheat" in.

The "dredge" mechanic ends up consuming the draw(s) of a players turn which isn't possible in standard. This means that new cards still end up in hand. Cards like Glowspore Shaman becomes a viable alternative to Life from the Loam with similar functionality. this helps support the lower amount of land in the deck.

Without dredge, we do not lose our draws in this deck. Because we keep drawing as the game goes on, it is ok to play more cards that we can't get back if they are killed/milled.

This is where the slot for Cathartic Reunion comes in. This card is used in modern as a strong mill card since dredge can use the draw as mill, but we dont have that option. so in its place we currently have Desecrated Tomb . This card can synergize with Bone Dragon amazingly well turning bone dragon's drawback into advantage. Since Tomb only needs creatures to "leave the grave", cards that get killed off like Narcomoeba (s), or any of the creatures that mill when they enter the battlefield, can be turned into 1/1 flying Bats by exiling them as part of Bone Dragons cost. This means that in a best case scenario, a single Dragon can spawn 2 Bats entering the battle field at instant speed in addition to itself (with the bats coming in untapped). Wilderness Reclamation further facilitates this interaction while also interacting with Reassembling Skeleton in the same manner to a lesser extent.

The side board is still very much a work in progress; however, there are still some intresting thoughts. Lightning Axe functions to get rid of threats like Thing in the Ice   while also allowing discard to get dredges back in the grave. Unexplained Disappearance seems to be the right fit for standard as it removes a threat and still allows for some mill effects... It played well in the original build when it was in the main deck so I guess only time will tell if it fits in the sideboard.
Other side board options were far simpler such as Naturalize vs. Nature's Claim . One more, but that's the price you pay for standard playability in the colors I've chosen. I will continue to expand this section as time moves on and I get more experience with post sideboard matches.

I had a lot of fun making this one guys and I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays. I've gotten some casual, between round, games in with the uncompleted version at FNM. It's preformed well and I can't wait to see it in this new form. If you guys like it, and wanna try it out, let me know in the comments how it faired. What things do you guys think you'd add or remove to make it more consistent and fun.

If not, see ya in the next build :)
