I built this to take advantage of red's removal & win-con Keranos, God of Storms. I took UW control and added some great cards with red. My main goal is to basically say no to my opponent until I get one of my win-cons on the board.
Here is the break down of each card & my thought process:
Keranos, God of Storms - Not much explanation needed here...He is a beast that can give me draws, creature removal, & the win
AEtherling - I think this is a must have in any control deck. Once he is out he's a bitch to get rid of if the controller plays him correctly.
Elixir of Immortality - Gives me that security blanket if I need some life or somehow my win-cons got milled. Also, with all the drawing I need a way to not mill myself.
Syncopate
- Great early game counter. I was tempted to sideboard this instead of Counterflux but I found this to have more matchups. Counterflux will be a great side in vs control.
Celestial Flare
- If I happen to miss a counter of their creature, this is a good way to still get rid of it.
Izzet Charm - I chose this charm over Azorius because I can see myself using all 3 options, with Azorius Charm the draw & bounce are only useful. Also, Izzet Charm replaces Magma Spray or cards of that nature.
Banishing Light - This is on the fence of mainboard or sideboard. I like that I can use it against Detention Sphere but I'm really not seeing great value at the moment. Definitely need some ideas here...
Detention Sphere - Excellent control card & an absolute must
Dissolve
- I heard scrying is a good thing...also, I like saying no
Sphinx's Revelation - A staple in control decks. Gives me card advantage & life
Jace, Architect of Thought - He is a great control planeswalker. I have see him played two different ways; card draw or controlling the small creatures. I guess the way I will use him depends on the board state.
Supreme Verdict - Excellent card to get the board back in my control.
Warleader's Helix
- At first, this was 1 copy & sideboard another. I decided to run both main because it get rids of most of the large creatures and gives me 4 life. I can also hit the opponent in the face for 7 if I have Keranos out.
Assemble the Legion
- I consider this another win-con. These guys can give me a little wall from my life and just keep growing until they find a way to get ride of this enchantment.
Elspeth, Sun's Champion - Obvious must have in a control deck. She is my favorite win-con because it hurts when her ultimate goes off.
Firemind's Foresight
- I saw this played in a top 8 RUW deck recently. It has my attention & I'm going to give it a shot. The cards I would grab would probably be Sphinx's Revelation, Izzet Charm, &
Syncopate
. Cards with X in the CMC count as 0 when searching.
Mana base:I am trying out 10 scry lands although most control decks use 12. I instead tossed in Mana Confluence for mana fixing.
Sideboard:
Pithing Needle - many options here, mainly for control & an aggressive Pack Rater.
Gainsay
- Obvious sideboard vs control
Negate - Another counter just in case
Nyx-Fleece Ram - Great to side in vs Aggro
Anger of the Gods - Another Aggro card that just says no
Brimaz, King of Oreskos
- I would like to have this Archangel of Thune but I'm going to try him because of his lower CMC. This would be vs a creature removal deck that most likely sides out its removal.
Counterflux - No more countering my counter
Jace, Memory Adept - Side in vs Midrange or control as another win-con
