18 lands is to low try to have 20 minimum.

HydraOoze I was thinking about that but wouldnt Crypt Ghast pretty much fix all land issues?

Once you played him he would but with 18 lands you might not get enough mana in time to play him.

if you really wanna play Army of the Damned, you should rock Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx :) Also, great take on Zombies for modern. Come take a gander at my build. I use some different stuff, and it is more of a AEther Vial based strategy, but Zombies man!!! Cheers. +1

Thanks BelegValdaglerion, I'll try to add that in. Still messing with the lands. Trying to get the numbers right.

okay, so i am working on as i am writing this, my u/b zombies, which is now starting to look more mono...anywho, i believe you should run sets of most of the tribal guys, including geralf's messenger and diregraf ghoul. you can go down to 1 army of the damned. it has flashback, and so long as you put in Nykthos, you will cast that with ease. Having two in hand, can be dreadful. Stromglad Crusader is going to shine with Nykthos. Being pro white, he doesn't get removed to path to exile which is a main card a lot of people play. Sure, lightning bolt, but whatever. let's not go there. :) Also, Hero's Downfall is too slow competitively. I have learned Dismember to be the best creature removal for how fast this deck wants to run. It's relevant in the turns 1-3, as you can see. I would definately take Crypt Ghast out, he doesn't do anything for you really. You want to win, that guy won't help you win :( By freeing up Crypt Ghast, you can put in the Vials if you wanna try them out, which I think will be nuts with your creature style. Okay, end rant. Just trying to help a fellow undead player!!

I think that you should take out Army of The Dammed , as with only 20 lands, you are never going to be able to reasonably cast it against a good modern deck.

I might add another Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx because if you're going to try to rely on it to help you cast your more expensive spells, you're going to want to be able to get it more reliably.

Mono black deckbuilder's toolbox is a big list I put together for us mono black players. Gray Merchant of Asphodel is going to be a lot better in your average matches than Army of the Damned, however awesome it feels to cast. I've seen Nantuko Husk comboed with gravecrawler, but I'm not super happy with it here given the lack of silly graveyard stuff. Cryptbreaker tends to be better than Diregraf Ghoul, and Diregraf Colossus works wonders if you're filling your graveyard. Pithing Needle, Ratchet Bomb. Mimic Vat are all practical sideboard tools. With some more graveyard stuff Nightmare Void becomes useful against control matchups. Quest for the Gravelord is cheap and provides a useful beatstick later in the game. Lashwrithe is lashwrithe.

The big thing mono black has going for it is versatility- its pretty easy to fit an aggro deck, control/discard and a few silver bullets into your 75 cards, and still be threatening a couple of other setups post board. Good luck, and happy brewing.

Obelisk of Urd? I used to run sultan zombie tribal and the obelisk was fantastic and easy for me to get since I had a ton of zombies on the field.
