Tempo and control deck inspired by some of the new spirits released in Eldritch Moon. Aims to play like a less aggressive Merfolk, with a few notable differences.
The Good:
Flash - Rattlechains gives us the ability to play almost any card in the deck on our opponents turn, meaning we will never have to choose between playing a creature or a counterspell without knowing what the opponent will play. The fact that it has flash on itself means we can play it on the end of our opponent's turn, hopefully saving it from removal. Putting flash on Drogskol Captain and Kira, Great Glass-Spinner brings incredible value out of them, turning them into a 2 in 1 creature and counterspell. Spell Queller offers that same value by itself.
Flying - Every creature in this deck has flying, with the exception of Geist of Saint Traft (and his token has flying anyway). We will almost never have to worry about blockers.
Hexproof - Targeted removal is virtually useless against this deck. Flashing in a Drogskol Captain or Spell Queller or Rattlechains can even stop Abrupt Decay.
Mausoleum Wanderer is a strictly better Cursecatcher
The Bad:
Two Colors - The best spirits are blue and white, horseing us into Azorius. This has numerous drawbacks, including the potential for getting mana screwed and upping the price tag on the deck by horseing us to run good dual lands. Stepping into white does, however, give us access to one of the best removal spells in modern, Path to Exile.
Fewer, More Expensive Lords - Merfolk usually runs 12 lords, 8 which sit at 2 cmc, and 2 Phantasmal Images. That puts us 10 lords behind, leaves us dropping them a turn later, and means we will stack lords less often. This gives us lower damage potential and horses us to get more value out of our cards in order to compete.
