This deck relates the story of a secret romance, lost and found across centuries, as fiery and passionate as the Dragon's fire itself.
~ ~ ~
Everyone knows that Jodah and Jhoira had a brief fling during the Temporal Crisis of Dominaria, but few knew that for Jodah, Jhoira was just a rebound, a desperate and mislead attempt to fill the hole that his true love, the true captian of his heart, had left when she disappeared from his life. It's true, Jodah had made his own mistakes, but by the time he was ready to face them, his love was gone, nowhere to be found. Now, she was lost to time. She had disappeared hundreds of years ago, but his love for her was like himself, ageless, and hopless.
Jodah had been using the time rifts to search for his love, but to no avail, he could not find her in any alternate timeline, past present, or future, she was nowhere... He thought that Jhoira might be able to help him, or give him a lead. She could not. But, as Jhoira was overseeing the dredging of the bones of the Skyship Weatherlight out of the Urborg muck, he saw something in her, and thought that maybe she could be the one... the one to be a good enough replacement to make him forget. But, that's not a good reason to get into a relationship. Those kind don't usually last, and it didn't.
Anyways, much later, lonely ol' Jodah was busy distracting himself from his pain and lonleyness with lecturing, and peace negotiations, when the Phyrexians invaded Dominaria. It was a perfect distraction, and on top of that he held a grudge against the Phyrexians. He had always blamed them in part for his love's disappearance. Eventhough they were not directly responsible it, he felt they had driven her to runaway after all the violence and horrible things they had put her through.
So, Jodah, the Unifier joined the fight, and they fought. Even though it was supposed to be a distraction, Jodah found himself constatly reminded of his love. The new captian of the Weatherlight especially reminded him of her, but he had learned his lesson so long ago with Joirha. He admired the new captain as the strong, brave, and passionate young woman that she was. He felt a strong connection with her, as if he were a protective and supportive older brother, or friendly uncle. Eventually, they decided that they needed to go back in time to figure out how the Phyrexians were defeated before. Jodah had some old blueprints for a time-machine that Urza had designed, and he had always hoped of using them to find his love, but could never get them to work. He agreed to share the blueprints, and they all got to work.
One object they had to aid them in their time travel tinkerings was a mysterious artifact, the Starfield Orb, thought to be meant to assist Teferi. It sparkled like the night sky, with a billion stars inside of it. It called out to Jodah, and whenever he was near it, he felt as if it was trying to pull him towards it, embrace him into it... One night, while Jodah was alone, tinkering with the Starfield Orb, and staring into it, he found that the deeper he looked into it, the deeper it went, and so he looked deeper and deeper, until he realized that he was surrounded by stars, floating in an infinite sea of light, light which got brighter, and brighter, until everything was pure white light... and then - POP! - he suddenly felt the ground beneath him, his own weight, the warm and stuffy air, and could see the glow of a dim from light behind his closed eyes.
Slowly, he opened his eyes, and took in his surroundings. He was in a cabin, or, a study. The walls around him were covered in shelves, filled with books, bottles, scrolls, strange artifacts. The light was soft, warm, almost golden, yet there were no windows, no lamps or candles, it seemed to emanate from from the room itself, or even a quality of the air. The air was warm, and slightly stuffy, but not dry, or humid, or dusty. It was very comforting, it felt familiar. It had a sweet, homey smell to it, a smell that filled his mind of memories from a time long past...
As he looked more closely at the objects in the room, he started to recognize them, they were Urza's! He didn't recognize everything, but yes, these things undoubtedly belonged to Urza. He started furiously flipping through manuscripts and inspecting artifacts. It was all about the Phyrexians, and Urza's research and plans on how to defeat them!
Jodah was shocked, and excited to bring all this information back to the rest of the New Coalition. He was just starting to think that maybe there was something in here that would help him find...
"Jodah?", said the voice behind him. Jodah froze, his mind raced, he suddenly questioned where he was, what this was. Was he being tricked? Was this some kind of Phyrexian trap? Was he dead? He knew the voice, but his mind was to overwhelmed to comprehend it, here, now...
Jodah turned to face his love. She stood in a doorway, staring at him, seemingly as bewildered as he was, she looked exactly the same as when he last saw her, so many centuries ago.
"Sisay? Are you real?", he whispered, beginning to quiver.
Sisay was still, but her eyes grew wide, and then she smiled across her face and lept forward.
"Jodah!", she screamed as she jumped to embrace him. Neither of them knew if this was real right now, but they didn't care, the longing they had felt for so many lifetimes was too much to bear, they had a lot of lost time to make up for...
After the formalities were over and they had collected themselves enough, Jodah asked, "What is this place? How are you here after all these years? Where did you go? I looked for you for so long!".
~ ~ ~
It was during the first Phyrexian invasion of Dominaria when they met. Jodah had been off doing his own thing. He had already been alive for thousands of years, was depressed, had been kidnapped by a necromancer and driven crazy because he didn't have his memory Reflecting Mirror, then he had to smash his memory mirror on his friends head because she was possessed by the same necromancer who had kidnapped him, and his school, the School of the Unseen had flopped, and he was just kind of wandering around feeling lonely, defeated, apathetic, and without a purpose or a desire to have one. At one point though, he went go to visit his ol' buddy Urza, who was literally driving himself crazy fighting the Phyrexians, to offer him some chill vibes. It was during this visit that Sisay, Weatherlight Captain and Jhoda were introduced. They fell passionately in love.
However, Sisay was busy captaining card:The Skyship Weatherlight, so it was hard to start a relationship in the middle of a war with interdimensional-zombie-robots like that. Jodah, for his part, could've joined the crew and helped defeat the Phyrexians, and he and Sisay could've been a hero power couple, and rode the Weatherlight off into the sunset; but, he felt like he still needed to work on himslef, and he went of to keep sulking around while Sisay went to save Dominaria.
The truth is, Jodah was scared of a love so strong. He was scared of commitment, and of loss. After all, he had already lived for thousands of years, and had watched all his loved ones die, lifetimes over, so he had some baggage to deal with... But, after a while, and after the Phyrexians had been defeated, Jodah had changed his mind, and wanted to follow his love for Sisay. It would hurt more to deny his love, then to have to be by her side when time would finally take her, after a lifetime of happiness together. So, he went back for her, only to have his heart broken.
Jodah was told, that after the defeat of Yawgmoth, by means of card:The Legacy Weapon, the Skyship Weatherlight had been all but annihilated as part of the weapon, leaving Sisay as a captain without a ship.
Jodah thought, "I would've been her ship".
However, the grateful leaders of Dominaria gifted Sisay a new ship, which she named "the Victory", and she and two of her crew mates, Squee, Goblin Nabob and Tahngarth, First Mate "headed off for more adventures".
"'Headed off for more adventures'?! 'First Mate'?! Hes probably hung like a...! Squee?! That NaBOOB?! Why did she take off with those idiots? Well, I guess she didn't really like me after all...", thought Jodah. And so he went back to sulking around.
However, as the weeks passed, he still thought of her, "even though she didn't want him", he thought. But, he still hadn't seen her since that first time, and he had to know how she really felt. He decided to go and see if they had come back at all, and to profess his love to her so she knew how he really felt.
He started asking around, and was able to get in touch with both Squee and Tahngrath, but no one knew where Sisay was. Squee and Tahngrath both told Jodah that yes, they were planning to do a little traveling, just a little vacation for some RR&R, but they never actually went. Sisay had seemed preoccupied with something in the days after the war, and before their planned vacation. It was onley a few days before they were supposed to leave, that Sisay said that she needed to go to the Tivan Desert to do an errand, and would be back in a day or two. She hadn't been seen since. Everyone just assumed that she wanted a some alone time, and was probably just cruisin' the Victory around, getting some her-time in there, or something.
Jodah thought that kind of made sense maybe, and decided to give it a little time. But a little time passed, and no sign of Sisay. More time passed, and Jodah started worrying. He decided to look for her again. He would end up looking for decades, but as decades turned into centuries, Jodah found himself thinking that, wherever she had gone, whatever had happened to her, she had been lost to time now...
~ ~ ~
"Oh, Jodah!", sighed Sisay. "I didn't mean for things to happen this way", she started to explain. Sisay looked into deep into Jodah's eyes. "Jodah I loved you the moment we met, but I knew that war with interdimentional-zombie-robots is no place to start a relationship. I had to save Dominaria, but I knew I would return to you once I did. And that was my plan. But what I didn't plan Jodah, was that I was pregnant, with our baby...
I wanted to run away with you, and start a new life, away from Dominaria, away from all the bad memories, to make our own home, our own new, happy memories." Sisay lowered her head, and slowed her speach. "But the Weatherlight was destroyed, and the Victory wasn't going to get us where I wanted to go. So...", she paused, then looked up into Jodah's eyes again, "I knew that Urza had been hiding things, in a secret place, I wasn't supposed to know!", she blurted out. "It was this place Jodah! He was hiding all this! Everything about the Phyrexians, and how to defeat them, in case they ever came back! I thought, if I could get here, maybe I could find something to help me figure out how to make the Victory planeswalk, like the Weatherlight could, or something like it, so we could run away together!" Sisay grasped Jodah's hands and leaned closer to him, and deeper into his eyes. "But I couldn't figure out where Urza had hidden everything, and it was taking too long for me to find it, and I had our baby Jodah. But I didn't want to tell you, or anyone, before I could get us away."
Sisay lowered her head again, holding back some tears with her closed eyelids. "I finally got a lead, and that's how I found this place... Well, I found this ball... of stars. I gazed into it, it was beautiful... and the next thing I knew, I was here!" Sisay looked up, this time with deep sadness in her watery eyes. "I thought I had done it, and that we could run away together. I stayed for hours, taking notes, and drawing diagrams, but when I finally tried to leave, I couldn't, I didn't know how to leave! I was stuck!" She wiped her eyes, and composed herself. "I thought there would be something here about how to leave, but - Oh Jodah!" Sisay let out a few sobs, and wraped her arms around Jodah's shoulders. She sniffled and sat back straight, then asked, "How long have I been here? How did you find me?"
"Sisay", said Jodah, holding her forearms tenderly, "It's been hundreds of years, mabye like 300, I think, the timelines are kind of vague... But I searched for you Sisay, I searched for so long, I searched into the future, into the past, and everywhere in between. I coulnd't find you anywhere."
Sisay's jaw dropped slightly and her eyes widened with surprise and mild shock. "Hundreds of years?"
"Yes", Jodah said slowly, as he looked around the room inquisitively. "You know, it's starting to make sense... You've been trapped inside of this pocket universe, completely seperate from the rest of the multiverse. Urza must've put some protective spell over this place to keep it completely hidden from the rest of time and space! That also must be why you haven't aged a day in hundreds of years!"
"Wow." Said Sisay, still with eyes and mouth agape.
"Yeah, Wow", repeated Jodah, looking back at Sisay, eyebrows raised.
"Well, let's get outta here!", exclaimed Sisay, jumping up and rushing around the room gathering papers and random objects. As she scurried around, she hurriedly explained to Jodah, "Okay, so I think I've figured out a lot about how to rig up the Victory so we can find a new plane and-"
"Oh, yeah", Jodah interrupted, "Sisay, I don't know where the Victory is, it's probably been sitting in the desert for hundreds of years. Plus, we don't really need that anymore. Oh yeah, you don't even know! Yeah, the Phyrexians invaded again, can you believe it? Yeah, but this time, get this, they invaded the entire Mulitiverse!"
Sisay stopped shoving things into a bag and spun around, "Wwwhat?!", she cried.
"Yeah, they basically ripped holes throught the whole Multiverse and invaded like, so many planes. I mean, we just defeated them again, but the holes they ripped are still there. Yeah, we call them Omenpaths now, you can just walk right through 'em! Anyone can travel between planes now, it's just like going to a different... um, landmass, or something."
"Hu." Sisay, stood still for a few moments, considering what Jodah had just told her. "Did you just say 'we' just defeated the phyrexians?", as a mischievous smile started to creep across her cheeks.
"Well yeah... Me, Teferi...", Jodah started, as Sisay stepped towards him, slowly draping her arms around his neck, smiling.
"You defeated the Phyrexians? Jodah", she exlaimed softly, "So heroic", she drawled.
Jodah blushed, then, awkwardly cleared his throat and broadened his shoulders. "Well, yeah... Yeah I did!", he chuckled nervously. Then, clearing his throat again he continued, "Yeah! I mean, I did have help, like I was saying, Teferi, Saheeli, Kaya, Shanna - Oh sorry, that's right, you don't know them. We'll introduce you to everyone though!"
Sisay drew back a little, arms still loosely clasped around Jodah's neck. "Shanna?", she repeated.
"Yeah, she's was the captain of the Weatherli-", Jodah, stopped himself. He had forgotten, in the in moment, that Sisay had no idea about the world outside this bubble anymore. He didn't want to explain too much now, there was a lot to catch her up on. He knew she would want to know about the Weatherlight, she didn't know it had been rebuilt, but he didn't want to tell her yet about about it's ultimate fate, being complaeted by the Phyrexians.
"The Weatherlight?", she repeated again, looking blankly questioningly at Jodah.
"Well, it was rebuilt, but it's not quite the same as it was...", Jodah continued.
Sisay was surprised to hear about the Weatherlight, and was curious to know more. She was also surprised to hear that Shanna was the captain, but she was also not prepared to tell Jodah yet that Shanna was their daughter.
Jodah started to try and explain more about the current state of Dominaria, but Sisay interrupted, quickly turning back around to continue quickly packing. "That's okay, it's not important right now, you can fill me in later. I just have to make sure I have all the things I need for the Dragons, and then we can get out of here!"
"Dragons?", asked Jodah, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh!", Sisay shrieked. "Of course! I didn't tell you! Here, look at these!" She shoved a stack of blueprints into Jodah's hands.
"Urza's Incubator?", he asked, now lowering his eyebrow to furl them both.
"Yeah! I've had a lot of time to think in here, you know, and I came up with a plan, for when I ever got out..." As she continued to hurriedly pack, she started to explain her plan to Jodah.
~ ~ ~
At one point during the first Phyrexian invasion, when Sisay was the Weatherlight captain, as if she didn't have enough on her plate, the five Primeval Dragons got resurrected and proceeded to go HAAM on both the Phyrexians and the Dominarians. Being a boss, Sisay ended up ramming the Weatherlight into Crosis, the Purger, plunging him back into his tarry prison, but also crashing the Weatherlight in the process, which fortunately was reborn as a sentient flying ship.
Unbeknown to Sisay though, during the collision and crash, she had been imbued with a small bit of Crosis' essence. His essence, his characteristic associated with belong to The Ur-Dragon, the sprit of all Dragon kind; Crosis, the necromancer, who's name means Death, known as "The Purger": his essence was now within Sisay herself. It was such a small bit of essence that it had no effect on her at first. In fact, it wasn't until soon before she got trapped within the Starfield Orb that the essence started to influence her ever so slightly.
But, after being alone with her thoughts, and Urza's machinations, for hundreds of years, the essence had come to influence her more than it could have within the bounds of a normal human life. She had become completely obsessed with the Ur-Dragon and her plan once she escape, to use Urza's knowledge and tools to summon forth the Ur-Dragon!
Now, this all definitely came as a surprise to Jodah, but he had seen a lot of crazy things in his long life, but to him, right now, this didn't seem that crazy. She didn't want to hurt anyone, or like take over the world, she just wanted to summon forth the Ur-Dragon. Jodah had longed for her for so long. He had found her again, after thinking that she had been lost to time. Sisay was the captain of his heart, and he was her ship. He would go wherever she steered him.
"Okay babe", Jodah said after Sisay was finally done explaining her plan. "You got what you need? Let's get outta here."
Jodah took one last look around to see if there was anything else that might be useful. Over in the corner, he noticed a large vessel. It looked like a giant vase, or an urn, or... It was kind of dark in the corner, so he moved towards it to get a better look. He could tell it was filled with something, it was cascading over the edges...
"Hey babe, what's that thing over there in the corner? Is that some kind of vase, or urn, or sylex, or something?"
"Huh?", said Sisay absentmindedly, "In the corner... Oh! The corner! Oh Jodah, no! Don't go over there!", she exclaimed. "I don't know, yeah, that's just some old vase, or urn, or 'sylex', or something. You don't need to see that. I mean, I've been in here for 300 years right? I had to go somewhere!" She giggled nervously. "Besides, that thing's just a gaudy old piece of trash. Urza always had the worst taste in decorations! Anyways, yeah! I'm ready to go! But... how do we leave?"
"Um", Jodah offered, "Well I'm not really sure..." Sisay stared at him... "I mean, I'd been tinkering around with the Orb, and I didn't mean to come in here, I mean, I didn't even know what it was... But... I think, if we like, just close our eyes, and imagine that we're gazing into the Orb, like when we came inside, gazing deep into the stars..."
As Jodah was saying this, they closed their eyes, and imagined themselves looking into the Orb, and let themselves float into the stars... As they became lighter, the stars grew brighter, until they were suspended and surrounded by pure white light... then - POP! - they were back in Urza's Tower...
Now, Jodah had been taking it easy at the Tower, trying to help figure out how to get Teferi unstuck from time. But now that he was reunited with his long lost love, that didn't matter to him.
Sisay, although she knew her that her daughter was close by, had no desire to see her. The Ur-Dragon's essence had such influence over her now, that all of her maternal instincts were directed solely towards summoning forth the Ur-Dragon.
So, with their choices made, Jodah and Sisay gathered anything else they would need, along with Urza's stuff from inside the Orb, and stole quietly away into the night to start their new life together.
~ ~ ~
The first thing to do was to find some Unclaimed Territory to start their Dragon Homestead. They found a nice secluded corner of the multiverse. Then they started doing the second thing: Makin' Dragons.
Although Sisay had been thinking for hundreds of years about the plan, she still didn't actually know herself how it would all work. She knew she needed to do something with Urza's incubator. That's where the Dragon would grow. But how? She wasn't sure. In actuality, it was the Ur-Dragon's essence which really had the plan, all Sisay had to do was follow along.
Jodah and Sisay had set up the Incubator, and connected a bunch of magic and artifacts and stuff to it. "Well, I guess we should turn it on?", Jodah suggested.
Sisay walked up to the Incubator, wondering what to do next. "How am I supposed to make this thing make a dragon anyways?" she thought.
Just then, she started to feel slight a tingling in her toes, and fingers. The tingling started to spread up her legs and arms, and became warm. She started to feel lighter, as the tingling went into her body and became hot now. Sisay was didn't know what was happening, but she was paralyzed, and could only experience it. The tingling quickly became a tearing sensation, and what was hot was now burning, as Sisay slowly rose into the air, and tongues of golden flames began to lick out of her skin. The flames became brighter, and larger, and then, with a roaring flash, an iridescent inferno exploded from her mouth, swirling and crashing in the air above her. Then, with a few tempestuous whorls, it crackled, and sparkled, and wooshed straight into the Incubator.
Sisay fell limp onto the floor from the couple of feet where she had been floating. Jodah rushed over to her. "Sisay, Sisay! Are you okay?!", he deperately asked.
Sisay blinked her eyes open, and looked at her arms and legs. "I, I'm fine...?", she mumbled, as she rubbed her head and squinted her eyes. Jodah helped her to her feet. They looked at each other, and then they looked at the Incubator. It was glowing, an iridescent golden light magically shining out. They had done it. The Ur-Dragon's essence had lead Sisay to this point, guided her to set up the incubator, and when the time was right, released itself into the Incubator, to incubate.
~ ~ ~
I'm not sure how long a Dragon takes to incubate in a magical incubator, but one day, after however long that is, with a gush of steam and smoke - PSHHH! - the Incubator door, cracked open...
Sisay and Jodah had an Incubator monitor set up, so they were alerted and immediately dropped what they were doing, and rushed to see their new family member! As they approached the Incubator, they could hear a soft snuffling noise, then some scaly movement, and finally a little lizardy "skwak". They slowly pulled open the door of the Incubator, and as the last bit of steam and smoke gently twirled away, they saw... something that didn't look quite like the Ur-Dragon.
It's head was kind of big and goofy, with a bunch of scraggly spikes pointing out in all directions, like the hair of some shaggy, disheveled old man. Its huge, Venus Fly-trap like mouth was even more awkwardly large, even compared to its already awkwardly large head. At the end of its huge mouth, on the tip of its nose, was one large horn, which was even still somehow too big for its already too big head and even bigger mouth. It's wings were also large, and floppy, but they looked thin and delicate, more like a bat's wings than a Dragon's wings. Its little body was topped with a ratty little fin that slumped over, and looked more like the ribs of a discarded fish skeleton than a Dragon's fin. There were also gross little fins hanging off of its arms and legs, like dirty, slimy skin flaps. Its tail was too, was strangely, and grotesquelly offensively large compared to its small pudgy body. "Skwak!", it shreiked unplesantly.
Neither Sisay or Jodah had ever raised a Dragon before, and they didn't really know what to expect. They thought, "Well, maybe it just has to grow into itself..." And of course they would love it. It was their Dragon, that they made together, with love.
Now I don't know how long Dragons take to incubate, but I do know that they grow up really fast. They start small, but in just a few weeks they're already almost full size, which is huge. They still have growing to do, and bulking up, and getting all gnarled and calloused and they get ancient, but they grow slower the older they get. Those first few weeks though, they get really huge, really fast. It's like they go straight into that awkward teenage phase. Their Dragon had come out looking like an awkward goofy teenager who hasd't grown into their body yet, and even after several weeks, their Dragon still looked like that. But, maybe it was just a phase.
Still, Sisay and Jhoira were not prepared for their dragon to grow up so fast, and they quickly realized that they would need a little help. They decided to hire a nanny, and found and old Samite Elder, who had raised many many children in her years. She was was great with the dragon, and the dragon liked her.
Adolescence is a time when the body goes through many changes, some strange, some gross, but it's natural. And their Dragon was going through changes too. And although these changes can be strange and mysterious, for this Dragon, they seemed especially strange and mysterious. For example, sometimes, out of nowhere, their dragon would randomly sprout a horn from somwhere, but it didn't look like it's other spikes or horns, and then it would shoot right back in. Or, one of it's arms or legs, or maybe a wing, or its tail, would suddenly change size or color, then change right back. Sometimes their Dragon would do some random thing, that it had never done before, like become a 1/1 human and lose all other abilities and gain hexproof, or do 4 damage to any target and 3 damage to each of up to two other targets whenever it attacked. Sisay and Jodah just assumed it was growing pains, and that their Dragon was just trying to find itself, and that someday, it would be the Ur-Dragon.
The Samite Nanny had never nannied a Dragon before either, but to her, a kid is a kid is a kid. She had a special understanding of children. She also understood that Sisay and Jodah had been trying to summon forth the Ur-Dragon, but she soon realized that this Dragon was not the Ur-Dragon. She felt that it was important to share this realiztion with Sisay and Jodah, but she did't want to upset, or offend them. She though hard about it, and finally came to a decision.
The Samite went to Sisay and Jodah. "Sisay, Jodah", she said to them softly. "We know that Dragon has been having a hard time lately, going through all these changes. But I've thought of something, something that might make things a little easier to deal with..."
"Oh please! What have you to share with us?", they asked.
"Now, I'm going to tell you something", she started, "and I hope that it doesn't upset you too much, but please hear me out, and I think you'll realize that it's good news." Sisay and Jodah became nervous and aprehensive, but trusted the old Samite. They silently nodded their heads for her to continue. "I think that your Dragon, your lovely, lovely young Dragon...", she paused, not to make it dramatic, just out of hesitation, then continued, "is not the Ur-Dragon."
Sisay and Jodah tensed up, and both sucked their breath in without exhaling. "Now now", the Samite interjected, "I told you it was going to be good news. Hear me out..." She continued, "Now I don't think your Dragon is the Ur-Dragon. But I do think that your Dragon is... the Scion of the Ur-Dragon!"
"HUUUU?!", Sisay and Jodah exclaimed. "What does that mean?", asked Sisay?
"Well, I'll tell you", the Samite started to explain, "It means that you can pay to search your library for any Dragon permanent, then put it into the graveyard, and the Scion will become a copy of that Dragon until the end of the turn..."
There was complete silence. Sisay and Jodah stared blankly at the wrinkled Samite. Jodah let out a like weird burp/cough/grunt, then cleared his throat and said, "Wait, so did you say: pay , to search your library, for any dragon permanent, put it into the graveyard, and Scion will become a copy of it until the end of the turn?"
The samite smiled a wrinkly old smile, "Yep", she cackled, through her weathered, grey teeth.
"But wait", Jodah continued, "You didn't say 'tap'? Right? Just 'pay '?"
"Yep!", cackled the Samtie again.
"So, I can activate it multiple times? How does that work?"
"Well, I'll tell you", replied the Samite. "Say you activate it 3 times: The stack will resolve down, and the last activation will resolve first, making it a copy of a dragon. Then, the second activation will resolve second, and it will become a different Dragon. Then the first activation will resolve last, making it a copy of yet another dragon, which it will remain for the rest of the turn. This works because whenever a card refers to itself by name, what that really means is 'this object'. So even though it has a different names, it's still the same object, and thus will continue to change for each time it was originally activated"
"Huh", said Jodah, as he continued to stare into to the wrinkle-folds of the salty old Samite.
"But keep in mind", she continued, "Once these activations start to resolve, there will only be one instance of priority that you can take to activate an ability of a Dragon that it's is becoming, before the next activation will start to resolve. And, once they start to resolve, the Scion's original ability can no longer be activated, because it doesn't retain that ability as it changes. Once it's final activation resolves, it will remain that dragon for the rest of the turn and can't change again until the next turn."
"Woah", replied Jodah, "That's a lot to take in. It sounds like there's probably some weird cool stuff you could to with that, but it sounds a little confusing too..."
"Yes, that's all true", she agreed. "But here's the best part! One day, it could even become, the Ur-Dragon!"
Sisay and Jodah leapt straight out of their seats with their hands in the air. "WAAAAA!!!", they screamed with excitement, and jumped up and down in circles, and furiously flailed their hands around.
The friendly Samite grinned a big disgusting, discolored, 1/3 toothed old grin, and clapped her hands yelled "AAAAH!"
After a few minutes of yelling and flailing, the Samite said, "Okay okay! Okay good! Very good. Now see, I told you it would be good news"
"Oh that is such great news!", agreed Sisay enthusiastically.
The Samite continued, "But hold on, there's a few other things. Now young Scion is going to need some more space, to explore, and learn. Plus, there's no telling right now what Dragon it'll turn into, or when, not until they learn how to control it. And believe me, you don't want to be too close if that Dragon happens to be an Earthquake Dragon, or even, you know, the Uuur-Dragon..." They started to giggle and flap around again. "Now hold on, hold on, I'm not finished. It's the matter of that other part of Scion's ability. Remember, whatever Dragon that Scion becomes, will go to the-"
She was interupted by an atrocious, bellowing scream coming from outside, followed by a very heavy, wet gurggle and thud, which shook the house. "Scion!" gasped Sisay.
They all ran outside to find Scion, standing there, wobbling slightly, with I confused look, and some Dragon drool slobbering down. Scion looked at them, then shook it's big scraggly head and let out a big, Dragon-snotty sneeze, shook it's head again, and looked back at them with an unsure, but reassuring "sqwak".
Scion seemed fine, and once they realized that, they directed their attention to the thing laying on the ground next to Scion. In fact, the thing lying next to Scion was twice it's size. Sisay, Jodah, and the Samite slowly crept towards and around the hulking, red, scaly, steaming mass. Gradually they realized that it was none other than a real live Shivan Dragon! Well, no, it was actually a dead Shivan Dragon, but it was real!
"This is what I was just sayin", declared the Samite, "Whatever Scion becomes, goes to the graveyard... You're gona start having a lot of dead Dragons layin' around here..."
~ ~ ~
Now, Sisay and Jodah were thrilled to learn that there own little Dragon was actually the Scion of the Ur-Dragon, and could even be the Ur-Dragon itself someday. But in the meantime, they need to make some changes around the place. First, they needed to make some more space for Scion to grow, learn, and play. They had a lot of land, but it wasn't ideal for a young dragon. They decided to hire some landscapers to help create a habitat which was more suited to a growing dragon. They found two highly recommended landscapers, a Treefolk, and an Elf...
Second, but no less important, they needed to figure out what to do with all the dead Dragons which Scion would be leaving around. Sisay was looking at the big, dead, Shivan Dragon, wondering what to do about it, when she began to feel a familiar tingling sensation in her hands. She looked at her hands, and as she did, the tingling sensation started to move up her arms and become warm. Small flames started to lick out of her hands and arms, but these flames were not gold, like before when the Ur-Dragon's essence had wooshed itself into the Incubator. These flames were black.
Suddenly, her arms raised forward and above her , as the black flames began to swirl through the air, and around the dead Shivan Dragon. The Dragon started to twitch. Deep, low grunts started to gurgle out of it's throat. A few pulsating convultions, and the Dragon's head tweaked towards Sisay as one Dragon eye peeled open, and looked directly at her.
As the black flames continued to swirl, Sisay felt herself becoming lighter, and as she did the Dragons head started to rise, as Sisay herself started rise into the air. Then... - POOF! - The black flames extinguished themselves in a acrid, sulfury smoke. Sisay collapsed to the ground, as the Dragon's head thumped back to the ground with a slushy thud. Jodah and the Samite rushed to Sisay. "Sisay, Sisay! What happened? Are you okay?", they asked with concern.
Sisay held her head, and shook it slightly. "I... yeah... yeah, I'm fine." She stood up. "I... I think... I think I was reanimating that Dragon!", she said, surprising herself as well as Jodah and the Samite.
"Reanimating?", inquired the Samite dreamily. She put one bony, naily old index finger up to her thin, dry, powdery lips, and and started suckling on it, as her gaze drifted skyward.
Sisay continued, "Yeah, I mean, I wasn't trying to, I didn't even know I could do that! It just, started happening, like when the Ur-Dragon's essence wooshed itself into the Incubator. Except this time, the flames weren't gold, they were black. But, then it just stopped."
"B-b-b-black?", the Samite stuttered, as she continued to suckle, and skygaze. A little drool coming now.
"Yeah", replied Sisay, "and it felt diffenet too, but... familiar. You know what...?! It felt, like Crosis!"
"Hm, you don't say, Sisay... I wonder...", offered Jodah, "I wonder... if you still have a little bit of Dragon essence left in you? And maybe because Crosis was the Dragon who gave you the essence in the first place, you absorbed some of his black death necromancy magic energy? But maybe that little bit of Dragon essence left inside of you isn't quite enough to really reanimate a whole Dragon!"
"You think so?", asked Sisay.
"Well, I don't know. I mean, I said it, so I guess I think so...?", Jodah questioned back.
"C-c-c-could beee!", offered the Samite, still suckling and staring at the sky. More drool, going down her arm now. "Cooould beee!"
"Well, maybe that's what we need then. A necromancer!", Sisay proclaimed decisively.
At this point the moist Samite slurped up a long strand of drool, and started licking the drool off of her forearms. "Only thing is, if you start reanimating all those Dragons, instead of a bunch a dead Dragons lyin' around, you gona have a bunch a live Dragons flyin' around", slurred out the Samite. "And that's too many Dragons for me to take care of."
"Hm, well, I'll start looking around, see what I can find", said Sisay.

A few days later, Sisay and Jodah were in the kitchen. Jodah was making himself some cereal. It was Fruity Pebbles. Sisay was researching things like "Necromancer", "Dragon Wrangler", "strong but fair leader", "good role model", things like that, trying to find some good help for all the dead Dragons that were piling up, and would hopefuly, flying around soon.
"Oh, hey Jodah! Listen to this. This guy sounds pretty good!" announced Sisay. "He's got really good reviews. 'Really nice guy', 'Super Responsible', 'Great with Kids', 'Incredible Role Model', 'Strong but Fair Leader'. So far so good, hu?"
"Guhunh", grunted Jodah, as he was trying to lick off the pink milk that was dribbling down his own chin, with a mouthful of cereal.
"Oh, and geeze, look at this: 'Skills: : Put target creature card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under its owner’s control.' Well, that is necromancy... I mean it's a little expensive? But at least it's reliable. And actually, you know, five mana is cheaper than the casting cost of most any Dragons anyways. Ok, ok, not bad. And oh look at this: ': Target player draws a card.' Hm, well, again that seems a little expensive, but I guess it's there if you need it. Honestly, I think the reanimate ability seems better in comparison, but card draw is card draw... Ok, ok! What else? Something about gaining life... I guess that's fine... Something about +1/+1 counters... Who cares...? Oh! But look at this!: ': All creatures gain trample and haste until end of turn.'!"
"PHBLBLBLBPPTTT!" Jodah spit out a huge mouthful of cereal.
"I know, right?", agreed Sisay, "I mean all creatures? Trample and haste? I mean, between the reanimation, card draw (even though it's expensive), and that trample haste... Plus, his reviews are really good! I think we should call him."
"Wait, Honey," Jodah wiped some of the Fruity Pebbles off his face with his forearm, to which they proceeded to stick, "That sounds kind of familiar. What's his name?"
"Ummm, let's see... Kenrith, it says he lives in..."
"Eldraine", Jodah answered.
"Yeah! Do you know him?"
"Well, I didn't know him, but I'd heard of him."
"Yeah? What'd you hear?", Sisay asked questioningly.
"Well, um, he died."
Sisay gasped, and held her hand up to her open mouth.
"Yeah", Jodah continued, "He was just killed, by the Phyrexians, not too long ago, along with his wife."
"Oh, that's horrible!", said Sisay, with a look of shock and remorse.
"Yeah, everyone said he was a really great guy. And you know, I think it was only a few years ago, he had been turned into an Elk, then killed, and then resurrected! Isn't that crazy? Yeah, and also, no one knew that he had been turned into an Elk either! No one knew where he was, he was totally missing. Then, get this, turns out there was a big hunting party planned, and wouldn't you know it, the Elk they were hunting, was him! They were hunting Kenrith! Can you believe it? Yeah, well anyways, last minute, they figured out that the Elk was Kenrith, but it was too late, he had already been mortally wounded. But then, his wife, brought him back to life! Isn't that a wild story? Yeah, such a shame though, to go through all that, thinking that now you can live happily ever after... And then, 'Wham!', Phyrexians invade your plane, and kill you and your wife. I mean, what's the point of developing characters with cool stories if you're just going to off them a few years later? I mean, was that really furthering some kind of important plot line, or was that just thrown in there as some like random drama? I feel like he was a good character, who still had some milk left in him... Anyways, I digress. But yeah, he's dead."
"Oh dang, that's sad. And too bad, he was checking all the boxes. I guess I'll keep looking." Sisay put her head on her hand, sighed, and continued to search.
Just then, the leathery old Samite shuffled in to the kitchen. "Hello! You know, I was just in the other room there, and I couldn't help overhearing your conversation. And it gave me an Idea! Why don't you go and see if you can't use a little of that necromancy magic you still got left in ya? See if you can't get ol' Kenny kickin' again? Eh? 'Kenrith, the Returned King, the Returned'! Eh? Whaddaya say?"
"You know Sammy", Sisay chimed, "That just might work. Eldraine, here we come! You ready to go Jodah?"
"Yeguglughpph!", sputtered Jodah, as he tried to gulp down the rest of his cereal, spilling a lot of it on his shoulders, stomach, and pants.

So, they went to Eldraine, where they were successful in reanimating Kenrith, and bringing him back to the homestead, to reanimate and take care of all their Dragons.
The crusty old salt-bag Samite stayed with the family for many years, helping with household chores and tending to the young Dragons. She finally died, but was reanimated by Kenrith, and still helps care for the household, and all the younger Dragons to this day...
All the reviews about Kenrith were true. He did a great job. He still oversees the Kingdom of the Ur-Dragon...
Sisay and Jodah lived a long happy life together. Inevitably though, Sisay aged like a regular human, while Jodah remained ageless. Like everyone else in his life, Sisay became lost to time, once again. The only thing he ever regretted was ever leaving her side in the first place. He had her reanimated too though... It's fine...
As for Scion? Well, Scion did eventually become the Ur-Dragon... As well as a lot of other cool Dragons... If you ever need to, just think of Scion, out there somewhere, flyin' free...
Ulimately, everything worked out. Everyone was happy and had a great time...
Except when that stupid Worldgorger Dragon combo gets online. I mean, it's kind of cool to see once, and to see all the Dragons in play, but after the first time, it gets pretty annoying to loose to some janky one card combo with your commander. But hey, that's Dragons baby!
And that's how you tie it all togher y'all!
