Zedruu, the Greathearted

Commander / EDH

TyGuy42

For the longest time, I couldn't fin a use for Zedruu. I wanted to, but his style of play didn't match my own. Then, I had an idea. I wanted to build a deck whose sole purpose is to deck yourself. There's no [card]Laboratory Maniac[/card] in this deck. The "win" of this deck, is to draw your entire deck in one turn and lose.Teferi's Puzzle Box + Thought Reflection or Al's Archive make your hand explode quickly, but it's not the only way to do it. Once I get going, around the turn 8-12 mark, I routinely draw 30+ cards a turn.
The funniest part is, people see you playing very powerful cards, they naturally assume that you're trying to win, and they try to stop you with spot removal. If makes the game into a sub-game. There's enough group hug to keep the heat off for a little while, and though the spot removal is spotty, it's versatile - and with a 40+ card hand, chances are you'll see one.Of course, this deck also packs serious teeth. Seismic assault is deadly, but so is Firestorm or a flashbacked Conflagrate. Psychisis Crawler and Niv-Mizzet can kill after being flashed in the previous turn via the VERY important Leyline of Anticipation or Vedalken Orrery.
The chaos factor of Possibility Storm and Teferi's Puzzle Box is just enough disruption to be useful, and Terrain Generator, Walking Atlas, and Oath of Lieges let you ramp faster than this colour-combination typically could.Naturally, this isn't a budget list, but a lot of the expensive parts are easily replaceable with recently and soon-to-be printed cards. Timetwister (the worst offender) works flashes in just as well as Day's Undoing, and the Tango lands can replace the duals. The fetches qre trickier, but are far from necessary - the mana-ramp mentioned above will work for longer if they're not there.

This deck is all about decking yourself in one turn - that is the "win" for me. I've tested it live in 5 games. I legitimately won 1, lost 1, and decked myself 3 times - and in all three of the games where I decked myself, I was asked to see the decklist. Everyone thought it was hilarious. It's a lot of fun, to give yourself a deck that has a mini-game built into it as well as potent win conditions. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
