Silence is actually better against other aggro decks where every turn counts and you are free to fortify your position.

RedCloud2012 yeah i meant silence you play during your own turn during control and against oppoonents turn when they are aggro. what should i take out in favor of it?

wwhitegoldd thanks for the suggestions. Boros Elite was in there for a while, but as I see it I have acess to 3 one drops, Rakdos Cackler and Legion Loyalist and Boros Elite , and Boros Elite is the weaker of the 3, so I dropped her. (I feel as if you should only run 2 one drops, otherwise lategame you'll be pulling one drops and thats NOT where you want to be.) Firemane Avenger I have also had for a while. She is too slow for my purposes, and almost always gets immediately removed. If she had haste, it would be AMAZING, but unfortunately it does not. Path of Bravery really would be decent, I'll add him to my maybeboard.

I've been trying to figure out a good r/w aggro post-Innistrad. I like the idea here. I was just curious why you decided to go with Truefire Paladin over Wojek Halberdiers ?

Aurelia, Firemane Avenger, and/or Warleader's Helix?

November 24, 2013 3:15 p.m.

Seten says... #11

iniksbane that really is a good question. I decided truefire beacuse late game he can use all your excess mana that every aggro deck has turn 6 or 7.

redben346 aurelia was in here, but she is ultimately too slow. I never get 6 mana, and if I do get to that point, the game should be over. she is amazing though.

firemane for the reason stated a few comments ago.

warleader's is ultimately too slow for my needs. spark trooper is essentially warleaders helix but for 6, except you dont get to choose who the damage is for. the 4 damage warleaders helix provides really will only go to the player, as the only one worth killing with 4 damage is Blood Baron of Vizkopa which has protection from white.

also I think 22 mana is to much for this kind of deck.

wwhitegoldd I used to think that, but in practice my mana has always been sort of perfect. I barely ever get mana flooded, and mana screwed maybe once a month.

This looks like a right solid Boros deck. Nice job. I like each of your choices.

Have you considered switching Akroan Hoplite for Wojek Halberdiers ? I think the halberdiers may be better, ideally because you are guaranteed to be dealing 3 damage each time, even if other creatures around it bite the dust. Not to mention it's a solid candidate for Madcap Skills and still gets the Legion's Initiative buff. Plus, with such a well-costed P/T, he is likely to have a target on his head immediately as he hits the field, possibly intimidating your opponent into using removal on him (which could be better spent on other creatures of yours).

I would also take out a single Boros Charm to add a single Aurelia's Fury . It has excellent applications against midrange and control matchups, and WILL help push the game over the edge. I'm having a tough time not seeing even just one Chained to the Rocks in the mainboard, but I guess you have narrowed everything down here very carefully.

In my current standard experience Burning Earth hasn't really been that effective. If I were you might consider swapping it for Banisher Priest or more mortars + silence.

MetaphysicalxProdigy akroan-wojek has been a huge debate for me since theros. I'm still leaning towards hoplite, because I typically have quite a few creatures out, and i cant tell you how many games i've won with a couple of 6/2 akroans. it's pretty amazing.

I like the idea of adding one aurelia's fury. I'll do that, but perhaps take out a magma jet instead. (i like boros charm so much.)

Burning Earth has won me a few games against control, and I don't like banisher especially due to the double plains in the mana cost. however, i cut down one in favor of another mizzium mortars.

MetaphysicalxProdigy also, a few questions on aurelia's fury:

  1. If they cast a spell, say Lightning Strike and you cast aurelia's fury in response to it and target that player is the lightning strike countered or does the Lightning Strike still resolve? basically is it the same thing as silence's rules.

  2. can you deal the damage to a planeswalker? if so, can you do it to a planeswalker AND the player who controls it. also, if you do it to the planeswalker can he still use his abilities that turn (+1, -3, etc.)

November 25, 2013 7:12 p.m.
  1. Lightning Strike will resolve because it had already been cast. You wouldn't be able to prevent the damage. If you don't want your opponent to play non-creature spells on his turn or potentially cast Lightning Strike , you should cast fury during his upkeep (as you would with Silence . Fury IS, however, an amazing card to also cast before laying into your opponent's line to seal the game.

  2. Yes you can. 'Player' and 'Planeswalker' are generally used interchangeably in magic, just as how Lightning Strike can also hit a planeswalker. The damage is dealt to either the planeswalker or the player, not both (unless the card says otherwise). And planeswalkers can only acquire loyalty counters at sorcery speed, so if your charged 'fury was going to reduce it to 0 or more, it wouldn't be able to gain counters in response. If you did deal damage before they used the planeswalker and it was still alive after, then yes, it could still use its abilities that turn.

Does that answer what you were looking for?

Firedrinker satyr is not to bad

November 30, 2013 2:55 a.m.

Seten says... #22

bigT164 unfortunately, yes, he is. I love the idea behind the card, but they gave him too many drawbacks. If he was to see standard play, he would need to hav the pump ability increased to +2/+0, and it deals no damage to you. Right now, it's basically a turn one true fire pally - but way, way, worse.
