@Dude2033 I have tested out Galvanoth, I actually had him in a previous version of this deck. He just wasn't relevant enough, the only time it was worthwhile having him out was when I had a Sensei's Divining Top or Scroll Rack out. Normally I would rather use the cards that I would draw when I want them, and nothing is worse than getting a Counterspell or Twincast on top and not being able to use them.

Extraplanar Lens would be cool if you you can switch all your lands for snow-covered versions. Snow-Covered Mountain Snow-Covered Island

@pipercraven I do plan on eventually trading for an Extraplanar Lens, and I even have all of my snow covered lands. So there is no point in adding them in until I have a lens. Thanks for the comment though

Since you're doubling, maybe Furnace of Rath could be of assistance?

The manabase here interests me. You've foregone a lot of duals and nonbasics in favor of basic lands. Is this a stability thing?

@Preturbed Furnace of Rath has been tested, but I cut it since I couldn't flash it in or target specifically my opponents. I would normally play it and kill an opponent, then my next opponent would kill me for way too much. It was strong, but it wasn't one sided enough. I will likely be adding in Bitter Feud as a damage doubler once I get my C14 decks, since it has a lot more utility.

I'm not using duals and nonbasics for Gauntlet of Power and eventually Extraplanar Lens. Both work only with basics. Additionally, they come into play untapped, which is relevant when I need to keep to my curve to ensure I have more tempo than my opponent. Finally, it is rare that I am color screwed, and all of my mana rocks fix my colors.

Thanks for the comment!

So 8 = death that is logic of the izzet and it works

I feel like Battlefield Thaumaturge would do lots for you, having cheaper costs will make sure you'll always be able to copy the spells, and being able to hit every single creature on the table with Comet Storm is just ridiculous !

@TheAmazingSalsa I used to run Battlefield Thaumaturge in the deck, and the problem was that he just wasn't affecting enough cards. He works really well with a couple cards like Curse of the Swine, both normally he just ended up being a bad Goblin Electromancer. I will take the consistency of the Electromancer over the potential value of Battlefield Thaumaturge. Thanks for the suggestion though!

for another fireball effect I would run Banefire because it is great for dealing with those other people who think they are allowed to play blue.

lemmingllama says... #10

I was running Banefire for a while, but I cut it since it was rarely relevant. Even when I was playing against blue mages, they would Misdirection or otherwise stop it from occuring. That's why I'm using Comet Storm for the instant speed and Devil's Play for the reusability.

Curse of Bloodletting since it seems to be just better than Feud.Lighthouse Chronologist do you like turns? Lighthouse Chronologist likes turns. +1 from me!

Oh and Guttersnipe for all those instants and sorceries you have.

lemmingllama says... #14

@dominick4537 I didn't even see your comment, I apologize. Riptide Laboratory would be a good addition. I will need to find one.

@beninator I cut Curse of Bloodletting to test out Bitter Feud, so far it seems to be working for politics. I may be switching back though, currently undecided until I get in some more playtests.

As for Guttersnipe, he draws way too much hate. I used to play him, and he would be killed within a turn every single game I landed him. I decided to run Sphinx-Bone Wand for now instead since my playgroup runs a lot less artifact destruction. Guttersnipe is good, but not dying early game is our goal.

@aHeartlessPotato Glad you like it, I've been tuning this list to be as silly as possible while still able to win games. Thanks for the +1

Hey man check my Melek deck and let me know your thoughts. I have tried running it your way but alot of the cards you run get killed off the second they hit in the meta where I play. Talking mainly Sphinx Bone Wand, Young Pyromancer, and Talrand. Have developed mine to survive till the time is right, avoiding aggro and playing politically, then you explode out of nowhere locking opponents out by taking infinite turns.

February 15, 2015 3:45 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #18

@bobbyboo It's very rare that I will even resolve a Sphinx-Bone Wand until I have a proper board setup, and both Young Pyromancer and Talrand, Sky Summoner are more for blockers and a couple small hits rather than trying to kill opponents. Normally how I will win is by taking about 4 extra turns in a row, then using Runechanter's Pike or Charmbreaker Devils to beat face. Or just making them concede by Capsizeing all of their lands and such with a Tamiyo, the Moon Sage emblem, or the stereotypical Fireball for 40

I will check out your deck though, it sounds very interesting. I don't really like running infinite combos, but my meta isn't as competitive as yours sounds to be.

lemmingllama you make me oh so sad, you rack disciprine! I was hoping I would come to this page and see melek storm with Proteus Staff and no creatures! Anyways, joking aside have you considered Peer Through Depths? It's pretty decent dig and double casted it's ridiculous.

February 22, 2015 7:26 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #20

@Deckologist The only problem is that Melek storm is so overdone, so I decided to do extra turns/fireballs instead. It doesn't kill on turn 6 or else 100% fail pretty consistently, so I'd rather have fun. Also I save my Proteus Staff shenanigans for my Merieke Ri Berit deck so I can steal their creatures and then polymorph them away.

As for Peer Through Depths, that would be a great fit in here. I'll probably replace Dictate of the Twin Gods, it's been very lackluster as of late.

I have to wholeheartedly agree with you there lemmingllama, creatureless Melek proteus storm is overdone IMO. However Deckologist doest have a point, as you should really look at reducing the amount of permanents in your deck. It will allow for Melek to bust his doubling nut all over your enemies faces alot more often. Rigging the top of your library should be the aim of the game and Mystical Tutor, Discombobulate, and Soothsaying (its a permanent I know) should all be considered. Like I love Keranos, his triggered ability rules. But he forces you to draw (which could easily be a instant or sorcery that can otherwise get doubled), same can be said about Consecrated Sphinx. Its a beast of a card but it instantly brings all the aggro your way. I dunno, dont take this as bashing your deck because it sounds like it works well enough, just consider making a few changes to the structure, who knows, maybe you will be able to mill the opponents of all their creatures and ruthlessly kill them off. Stack and cast Mana Geyser on top of a Reiterate (buying back the reiterate of course) forming an infinite mana loop then cast the Telemin Performance, Bribery, or Stolen Goods you have in hand, buying back a Reiterate infinite times with your infinite mana. This equals= infinicreaturemillthumbsupfuntimesgoodgame

lemmingllama says... #22

@bobbyboo I am trying to make a deck that has no infinite combos and still wins. It is notoriously hard for control to win in EDH without combos or being able to outvalue their opponents until one wins the game, and that is what this deck is trying to do. Often times I won't even cast Melek until turn 10 or so, since I'm doing so many other things in the same game.

Currently the permanents I'm looking to cut are Snapcaster Mage, Sphinx-Bone Wand, and Dictate of the Twin Gods. The others are very useful and won't draw aggro if I play politically (Consecrated Sphinx isn't a huge issue, I cast it when they are tapped out and if I draw 4 or more cards and then bait a removal spell, it was worth it.).

As for your suggestions, I'm definitely trying to trade for a Mystical Tutor. Same with a Soothsaying, it's been one I've been meaning to pick up at some point.

Discombobulate is a fairly weak counterspell though, there are others I would rather run that cost less.

Mana Geyser is a huge enabler, I would have to playtest it to see how effective it is. Still, I can see some Grade-A fireballs coming out of it.

Reiterate was one I had in here and then cut. It was cool, but there were virtually no times that I wanted to spend 6 mana to copy something, and at that point it was just an expensive Fork. It might be a good card for Storm Melek, but this deck doesn't focus on generating that much mana unless I have a fireball in hand or my entire deck in hand.

Have you considered Jace, the Mind Sculptor? I know he draws a ton of hate but with the amount of control you're rubnig he should be safe. Free brainstorms aren't a bad thing in melek and his -1 could come in handy. Actually his +2 wouldn't be bad either if you have a dead card in top of your library

February 23, 2015 9:12 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #24

@Deckologist He is another that I would love, but the fact that he costs $90 is a large factor in why I don't have one. One of these days, but I could just build an entire EDH deck for that same cost.
