@Deckologist If you want $90 of the cool jank I have in my binder (which isn't on tappedout currently), I would totally do that. If only the good cards weren't expensive... Sadly I doubt that they will do Legacy Masters or FTV: Expensive to help with the demand for these cards.

Haha. Well ftv20 isn't terribly priced for what you get out of if. You're a tappedout guy and I have my play set and EDH single of jace. If I find bother consider it a gift from a tappedout member lol

@Deckologist Sounds wonderful. As for FTV:20, it still costs $150, which is more than the cards I actually need from the FTV set (Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Venser, Shaper Savant, Gilded Lotus, and Green Sun's Zenith, which comes to about $120 if I bought the singles). I almost got one for a discount since a friend got two FTV sets for a Vendilion Clique and a 2013 judge foil Vindicate, but he decided to trade it away instead. Ah well... One of these days I'll win the lottery and then I can build all the cool decks I really want.

Needs more Ignite Memories. For style.

@Crayonmuffin It would be cool, but I don't have the super secret tech in here needed to get a good storm count. If it was at instant speed then I would add it in a heartbeat, but sorcery speed kind of kills Ignite Memories for me.

Ah touche. I just love the card so much and seems like it'd be a cool fit with Melek.

Someone gave me a promo Melek so I've been looking at ideas for a decent build for him. Still in my commander identity crisis though so perhaps not.

@Crayonmuffin Melek is great, and Ignite Memories works really well with him if you build your deck with a lot of rituals and cantrips. Its mainly that I am trying to build more of a tempo Melek instead of a storm Melek, and so I'm not using a lot of the ritual effects needed to make storm cards viable. Try using cards like Seething Song to generate a lot of mana.

Galvanoth or Magus of the Future?

March 20, 2015 2:22 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #9

@DickDale Galvanoth forces us to cast our spells at a certain time, but I want this to be a tempo deck. Our spells are valuable and need to be cast at the right times, not just during our upkeep. So he is a no-go that I have already tested.

Magus of the Future is a good one, the only issue is that he dies too easily. That is why I opted for Future Sight instead, this way it is harder to remove.

Thanks for the comment!

Maybe add Braid of Fire? Don't really want to say much, its a good build already.

March 31, 2015 7:34 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #11

@Zapo360 The issue with Braid of Fire is that it only sticks around for our upkeep, so we could only use it for our Fireball effects if I have an instant speed one, that being Comet Storm. It is a cool card and it does serve a purpose, but there aren't enough other cards in this deck to take advantage of it. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Oh ok, how about Howl of the Horde then? It seems to go with this deck though it does requires you to attack for the raid ability.

March 31, 2015 8:24 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #13

@Zapo360 I really like Howl of the Horde, but the main issue with it is it's sorcery speed. We would need to expend all of our mana on our turn rather than on an opponents, which isn't always ideal. I'm still trying to figure out what I would want to cut if I did add it in, but I haven't been able to decide. I might test out cutting Young Pyromancer for it, see if it works out nicely or not.

Braid of Fire + Djinn Illuminatus + Lightning Bolt = Dead Opponents.

Its good if you can get all 3 pieces and have Braid of Fire on field for as long as possible. It helps with the cumulative upkeep of anything, namely Mystic Remora, draw cards whenever opponents play stuff with no real downside... Heck yeah. It can even help with a huge Blue Sun's Zenith, or Stroke of Genius without raping your mana sources. Also keep in mind that with a big enough Blue Sun's Zenith twincasted you can actually get it back to your hand. Cast the first one and shuffle it into your library, hopefully pick it up with the second ones cast. Diglett would be proud.

I have tested my Melek deck quite extensively with Howl of the Horde and although it is awesome with the raid ability, its casting speed massively limits the cards utility. I often use my "copy target instant or sorcery" cards to pick up opponents ramp in early game, draw in mid game, and my own big spells like Time Stretch late game. Also helps with counterspell battles as you can copy peoples counters and throw them back at them. I would highly recommend the O.G of copy spells Fork far before I would recommend using Howl of the Horde.

Gosh I love playing my Melek deck, no two games are the same. Let the Chaos Begin!!!

@bobbyboo The issue with that combo is that Djinn Illuminatus and Lightning Bolt are both relatively bad cards in EDH. Djinn costs too much, and bolt doesn't have enough of a bang to be relevant. Braid of Fire is cool, but I don't have enough spells that I would want to cast on my upkeep to keep it in here.

As for Fork, I just haven't been able to find a copy. I'd happily slot it in here without a second thought if I could find a copy.

And I did some more playtesting with Howl of the Horde and decided that it wasn't really worth the slot. Good card, but I don't have enough creatures to make it useful and it costs too much for a single copy.

Have you tried Ponder and Anticipate in The deck?

April 4, 2015 10:31 a.m.

Whoops didn't see that ponder was already in the deck :/

lemmingllama says... #18

@TheGrayMerchant Ponder is already in the deck. I also have the better version of Anticipate in here, namely Impulse. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Treasure Cruise and Dig Through Time are absurd. particularly dig, with melek. "I'll look at the top 14 cards of my library and I'll take 4." seems good.

April 4, 2015 4:49 p.m.

lemmingllama says... #20

@MirranTitan Both of those cards are absolutely fabulous, the real issue is that this deck uses it's graveyard as a win condition. I have cards like Past in Flames and Pull from the Deep that will let me use cards in my graveyard, and Runechanter's Pike is a wincon as well. Delve is powerful, but removing so many good targets seems like a bad idea. If I ever do want to change the deck so it doesn't take 3-5 extra turns in a row, those two spells are prime candidates.

If you want some fun Izzet spells here is another take on a melek deck Who Owns What??. It has lots of interesting stuff that might fit well in here like Eye of the Storm and other cards that make the game more...interesting.

April 6, 2015 9:25 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #22

@Coinman1863 It does look fun, but you are much more focused on a chaos theme rather than a tempo theme. I already know about most of the fun ones you are running, and I personally run a lot of them in my deck Some Goats Want to Watch the World Burn. Thanks for the suggestion though

April 6, 2015 2:18 p.m.

Coinman1863 says... #23

Well, then how about Mirari? Its less chaotic and its an artifact (harder to remove) that helps copy your spells as many times as you want if you have enough mana.

April 6, 2015 3:18 p.m.

lemmingllama says... #24

@Coinman1863 There are two issues with Mirari. The first is that it gets hated off the table way too quickly. The second is that it can make games become unfun way too quickly. I try not to add too many cards that will make this turn into just an extra turn machine. I may test it again, but it doesn't really work nicely.

Also I just wanted to mention that Mirari only lets you copy a spell once. From the Gatherer , "10/4/2004 It triggers once per spell, so you can't get multiple copies of a spell using this card. And since this card is legendary, you can't control more than one."

Oh ok, and thanks for telling me about that rules text before I screwed it up at my local store. I really appreciate it.
