Hello! Welcome to Hawk Hunt, a janky jeskai combo deck for pauper. The idea is to cast
Rites of Initiation
with a couple
Squadron Hawk
s out on the field and swing for lethal. Simple right?
My card choices are 4x
Squadron Hawk
, with 4x
Haunted Fengraf
to bring them back from counters and removal. I have 3x
Treasure Hunt
to grab the Hawk's and 1x
Rites of Initiation
.
Now
Treasure Hunt
is kind of a random card, but I won't cut it for the obvious reasons of finding
Squadron Hawk
and
Rites of Initiation
. I'm keeping in 3 copies so that the first one will hit any of the 3 non-land cards, then if I hit a
Squadron Hawk
, I can thin the deck out so that it only hits another
Treasure Hunt
or
Rites of Initiation
. Then the 2nd one will hit maybe another
Treasure Hunt
, but more likely a
Thought Vessel
or
Rites of Initiation
. If I hit 2
Treasure Hunt
s in a row, then that's bad news bears.
Now once you hit something other than a
Treasure Hunt
, it's likely that you'll struggle getting the combo online after the fact. This can be solved by mulling until you have
Rites of Initiation
in your hand, which guarantees your combo upon turn 4 or 5, if you draw
Treasure Hunt
or
Squadron Hawk
. To cope with the consistency, I've added full playsets of
Secluded Steppe
,
Forgotten Cave
,
Tranquil Thicket
,
Lonely Sandbar
,
Ash Barrens
,
Evolving Wilds
, and
Terramorphic Expanse
. Each of these cards thin the deck out and bring you one card closer to drawing a much-needed
Treasure Hunt
. 4x
Khalni Garden
are included to give some chump blockers against aggressive decks and add more creatures to boost with
Rites of Initiation
.
There is no protection, only a little recursion, and the deck is 0% competitive. But if you drop the $6 or so on the decklist and get even one win with it, it'll be worth all 600 pennies.
Enjoy! And smash that upvote button to smitherines if you like the deck!
