BUG is my favorite color combo in magic. Unfortunately, BUG has had a rough time in modern. Here's the new midrange list I am working on.

This list has been made more midrangey to better the Junk matchup. And the aggro matchup in general.

If you like what i'm doing, give me a +1! Or leave a suggestion :)

BUG in modern today is very resilient, A strong beater shell backed up with counters, draw, wrath, and kill spells is very powerful against the combo and creature based meta.

Manlands are a huge issue for this deck. I'm running 2 Tectonic Edge in the main to help with this. And running 3 Fulminator Mage in the side. Rain of Tears is also a good option for the Snapcaster Mage recurability.

Write up in progress:

Creatures:

  • Tarmogoyf: Honestly there isn't much to say. This deck pumps him fast and he stabilizes a control deck so well. Good efficient threat

  • Snapcaster Mage: reuse spells on an efficient 4th doesn't seem necessary, opinions?

  • Thragtusk : I played him in standard, i'm playing him in modern! The life gain is very relevant, and he trades well since he leaves a 3/3.

  • Tasigur, the Golden Fang: He is cheap and his ability is amazing. This deck fills the yard with value most of the time, and his ability nets me a lot of value when i'm out of gas.

  • Kitchen Finks: this guy is a brilliant blocker and really helps stabilize the deck. Can also be an efficient beater.

Counters:

  • Mana Leak: great counter in modern. hard counter in the early game and can still be late game.

  • Remand (Spell Snare): This slot is debatable. I like Remand for the flexibility and draw, but spell snare can be nasty.

destruction:

  • Murderous Cut : Turns on pretty quick and unconditional. Worth 1 slot.

  • Abrupt Decay: hits so many things. Modern revolves around low cmc permanents, and uncounterable is just the icing on the cake,

  • Damnation : By far the MVP of the deck. The meta is highly creature based right now so this card is amazing.

  • Maelstrom: good in a bunch of matchups. Unconditional. Hits Lingering Souls, Young Pyromancer tokens, etc.

Draw:

Discard:

Walkers:

  • Liliana of the Veil: She can win games on her own. She is not the best in conjunction with counters because of her discard. However she has proven to be a house in this deck.

Think this is a good deck? - +1 it!

Updates Add

I did a lot of testing today and the deck runs quite well. It is weak to tron and manlands especially. Junk continues to be 50/50. I think I am going to maindeck a Sword of Light and Shadow tomorrow. It is really good against junk and I am expecting a lot of it.
