Weird not sure how that happened. Must have glitched some how.

um, you need 60 cards to be legal

Yeah I know after I removed the 2 extra vapor snags it was under. I'm going to have to bust the hard copy of the deck out and see what is different. I know the steam vents are missing on the list. Not sure how it happened but tappedout.net totally botched this deck list.

THIS IS AWESOME

i love Kiln Fiend its one of my favorite cards ever :D the only reason why i dont +1 is not to break that 69 there xD

Have you thought about Blistercoil Weird for this deck? Seems promising in here as well. +1 from me though, looks solid.

I don't feel like Blistercoil Weird packs enough punch to close out the game effectively. He comes off as a vastly inferior Kiln Fiend . Thanks for the suggestion and rating though!

I totally feel you on that. I'm saying he might just help get that last push since you casting 1 spell buffs both of them up. So say you have both opening hand, then turn 1 Blistercoil Weird , turn 2 Kiln Fiend and go to town from there.

Right now I'm more concerned with combating Inquisition of Kozilek . My best option that I can think of for that is Cursecatcher or Outwit . I feel Cursecatcher gives more versatility.

i agree, Cursecatcher seems better overall, i would remove one more card

Btw, for your description, your turn 3 Kiln Fiend is actually a 12/4 double strike :P Not sure if it'd really matter, but just wanted to throw that out there.

Ah yeah! Thanks for pointing that out. For the sake of correct info I'll edit it. =P

Wow. I must say I am very impressed by how well this deck functions, and especially how fast it is. Kudos.

I think Dispel is actually better then Negate , since the point is to protect Kiln Fiend anyway.

Mizzium Skin is the best protection imo. And my frind runs turn 3 kiln with Lightning Bolt and Brute Force which both work annpyingly well :/ I also think something like unkicked Unstable Footing or Skullcrack is the best solution to Fog because it covers it, the less commonly used Druid's Deliverance etc, whilst being either only 1 mana or 2 with a 3 burn bonus. Probably the Unstable Footing due to its turn 3 synergy with strobe and distortion strike, which is better than artful dodge :D

Judge's Familiar is strictly better than Cursecatcher if you ignore the creature type

Not really sure whether Staggershock would fit your curve, but Rebound would definitely give Kiln Fiend an edge and would probably get rid of any chumps in case you don't get Distortion Strike .

Also, have you considered Nivmagus Elemental instead of Wee Dragonauts ? Sure it hasn't got evasion, but I think it'd still make a powerful beater.

Also, since you have Gitaxian Probe and Manamorphose , a card with Storm would not be bad, especially if you'd end up using Nivmagus Elemental , since it doesn't require you to actually cast the spells. Just use the elemental's ability to exile all the copies you don't need from the stack. I think this strategy was utilized pretty recently by a deck that ended up winning some big modern tournament.

Staggershock is definitely out of my mana curve. Nivmagus Elemental is too slow for my taste and requires me to eat any spells on the stack before they resolve. Finally storm doesn't trigger Kiln Fiend s grow effects.

Thanks for the suggestions though! Appreciate the time you took to look at the deck. Don't forget to +1 if you liked it =D

Just saw your deck- I am also currently playtesting a kiln field combo deck. Haven't thought about Flamekin Harbinger ! I run Nivix Cyclops as a second copy- Its a turn slower than Kiln Fiend, however it is resistant to Lightning Bolt and Lightning Helix . To get my combo-pieces I am a huge fan of Faithless Looting in addition to a playset of Serum Visions ! I prefer Artful Dodge over Distortion Strike , because I can put in the graveyard with Faithless Looting and cast it from there. I also run 2 Pact of Negation . It's a great cover to ensure your deadly turn 3 or 4 strike.I was also interested in your sideboard. I like Unstable Footing very much as a fog-counter.

@Butch: Someone hit me last night with a standard deck very similar to yours, on MTGO. I'd get a creature out for maybe a turn and threw in some burn damage but was completely shut down by his deck. It was most impressive. Got a link to your deck?

butch says... #23

Here you go, MightyPirate. I just put it on. Kiln Fiend FTW 2013.

I am still working on it, to get it balanced between protection of my creatures, pumping the creatures and searching for your needed instants/sorceries.

Regarding Standard: I don't think that with the actual Standard cards you can make a competitive deck out of the idea. However as a surprising fun deck with Cyclops, Fluxcharger, faithless looting, Artful dodge, burn spells and pump spells, yeah!

I think a card like Silence will help you for two reasons (if you're willing to add white). a.) it will draw out your opponent's fog/bolt etc. (yes I know what you're going to say 'may i draw your attention to Apostle's Blessing and Dispel and Gitaxian Probe and Unstable Footing and Mizzium Skin , speaking of which, where's Dispel ?) but my point is Silence can stop all of these things. A Mizzium Skin is useless against a fog. Silence can either draw it out early or make them take a calculated risk to play it and thus, successfully draw it out, or make them regret a choice of not playing it and hit them for lots and make them feel dumb.

Oh yeah, it'll also shut up commenters or Kiln Fiend dies to removal.
