I think a card like Silence will help you for two reasons (if you're willing to add white). a.) it will draw out your opponent's fog/bolt etc. (yes I know what you're going to say 'may i draw your attention to Apostle's Blessing and Dispel and Gitaxian Probe and Unstable Footing and Mizzium Skin , speaking of which, where's Dispel ?) but my point is Silence can stop all of these things. A Mizzium Skin is useless against a fog. Silence can either draw it out early or make them take a calculated risk to play it and thus, successfully draw it out, or make them regret a choice of not playing it and hit them for lots and make them feel dumb. Oh yeah, it'll also shut up commenters who say Kiln Fiend dies to removal.

I have a pauper kiln fiend deck, and while its not even close to the same thing, Tainted Strike is pretty good.

Oh, and the deck is called Tainted Fiend

Oh wow. This is awesome. Just play tested three times and won turn three all of the times. Probably my favorite modern deck on the site (besides my own, but I'm slightly biased).

I think that Nivix Cyclops would be better than Wee Dragonauts

soooo, in my opinion you should be running a 4 of Surgical Extraction for IF your opponent uses a kill spell that you cannot stop...you extract it, harbenger and fiend next turn without worrying about that kill spell in hand....ALSO! in terms of worrying about kill spells....from experience..most decks go off turn 3/4 anyway...so if ythey have not killed your fiend on their turn...there is a MINIMAL chance they will at all

if you get teh time, please tell me what I could do to improive modern play (trying to get into it more) and if my deck Just EGG-ceptional is modern worthy at all

Mizzium Skin in place of the blessing? Also, take a look at Nivix Cyclops for a Kiln Fiend that doesn't die to Lightning Bolt

I've been out of the game since Innistrad rotated. I should really look into improving this deck with all of the fun new toys that came out. =) I'm probably going to go through suggestions and see what I like for improvements from everyone and roll out a version 2.0 of this deck. Thanks again everyone for all of the suggestions and likes!

L8D: Mizzium Skin is something that I'm keeping in the sideboard for now because it doesn't offer pseudo unblockability. Apostle's Blessing has a wider field of use at the trade off of not being 100% protection. The goal of the deck is to have the game wrapped up so fast that your opponent barely has time to make moves against you. You should only need to protect against the one Lightning Bolt before they die. =P I added the Nivix Cyclops over the Wee Dragonauts like you suggested though! I love that change and feel comfortable with it for sure.

I like idea of turn 1 Judge's Familiar to help protect against Inquisition of Kozilek and Despise but I'm considering sideboarding 1-2 to make room for 1-2 more Nivix Cyclops . Also I'm considering rotating the 4 Vapor Snag for other spells such as Spell Pierce in the main board. Currently Vapor Snag 's goal in the deck is to double as a way to bounce your opponents single blocker, or as a last resort to save your kiln fiend. I'm worried that Spell Pierce is going to wind up being a dead card in my hand when I need it the most. Only play testing will tell!

Finally, KingSorin suggested working in some white mana to abuse Silence . I think this is a very strong option that I might also consider to take over the Vapor Snag spot. Although I'm worried that mana ratios would get messed up in addition to all of my concerns with mainboarding Spell Pierce . I would have to pretty much guarantee that I could pull 1 of every color by turn 3 every single game. I'll definitely give it a test and HIGHLY consider silence if I can make the white splash work.

Looking over my mana base again, It shouldn't be too hard at all to replace the 2x Mountain and 3x Island with dual lands. Again my main concern is just how reliable all 3 colors show up by turn 3.

With Arid Mesa s you should be fine. They're expensive to get, but if money is not an issue, with 8 fetch lands and shocks of each 2-colour combination, you should have no trouble getting out any colour you need on turn 3.

I was smart enough to get a full playset of all enemy fetch lands during the zendikar print run. Looking at the value of the allied fetch lands from onslaught it was pretty clear that stockpiling them would be easy money in the long run.

I don't know if Fling has been suggested, but with all the cheap pump, it may be a nice finisher.

Really like this. I've been looking at a few decks along the line of this, but this one is the fastest one i've seen. Also the best sideboard. At my FNM everyone plays aggro and this is one of the few I've seen that has Mizzium Skin in it as a sideboard option. Great deck

That's my "monored" version of this deck: Swiftspear Rage you can hit for 18 or 21 on turn 2. I like the idea to add blue for evasion... but it's a very hard addition of fetchlands and shocklands.

I was able to deal 18 damage while preventing the opponent from countering, meanwhile giving Kiln Fiend unblock-able and double-strike. This was after a 1 mulligan at the start of the game and all by turn 3. This is definitely a tournament ready deck. Well done, a little heavy on the pocket book though.

I just want to throw out there, if you run some Monastery Swiftspears and Tainted Strikes it's possible to turn 3 them as well with the prowess triggers from Assault Strobe, Tainted Strike, and Distortion Strike or Apostle's Blessing. Izzet Wombo Combo is my deck. Yours helped immenssely while making mine, thought I had an original idea, but someone else always beats me to it :3

Also, not sure how important the +1/+0 is from Distortion Strike but Slip Through Space Draws you a card.
