"I came seeking a challenge. All I found was you."

Zurgo, khan of the Mardu

Given the fact that I love to play chess, it is pretty obvious that I am attracted to b/w. Since in the new meta everyone will play u/w control (or jeskai/esper) I'd like to get something else and came up with this one. It still needs a lot of testing, but it can be devistating. After sideboarding I feel like this is actually strong against any aggro/weenie decks like warriors or red deck wins. It might have some issues against control since it has no counter spells, but I guess that Thoughtseize, Duress and Despise, the massive amount of treats (8 planeswalkers and 3 deadly Sieges) and the ability to remove all of the opponents threads won't leave us chanceless in that matchup either. Against midrange decks we shall be fine.

I am thankfull for any advise. Either cards that need to be played that I missed, or cards that I just overestimate and should be taken from the deck are good to know.

Here's my brakedown of the Ideas behind the threads.

As in any game of Chess there need to be some pieces on the board.

The King: Ugin, the Spirit Dragon

Undoubtfully Ugin is the Monarch on the board. Exciling everything that is in his way. Finishing of the Opponent step by step and his ultimate wins almost every game. Note: If he doesn't get hit in the process he survives his ultimate.

The Queen: Elspeth, Sun's Champion

She is the most efficiant way to finish off opponents and deserves to be the most dangerous piece on the chessboard.

The Bishop: Sorin, Solemn Visitor

He provides some threads that look like vampiers and can easily mate in combination with the queen Elspeth, Sun's Champion. 1/1 tokens and +1/0 with lifelink deal ton's of damage and give as much life back, that we can use to cast a sick Damnable Pact .

The knight: Liliana Vess

Is a nice peace to set up mating traps via her tutor abillity. Also she can be anoying with her +1 and in rare cases she can mate the opposing king with her ultimate.

The Rook: Erebos, God of the Dead

Rooks are known for taking away any squares from the opposing king, that he needs to escape, and increasing the pressure on him. Not letting your opponent gain any life back might put him in a corner and drawing extra cards might be the pressure we need. In combination with Palace Siege we can draw an additional card each turn fur 2 mana.

The chessclock: Palace Siege

By the time the "Dragons" ability hit's the battlefield, we set our opponent on a clock and buy some time for us. Also we can once again draw a lot of cards with Damnable Pact .

The rest of the deck is pretty much a control package, that includes tons of removal, exile and carddraw.

Thx for any comments and recommendations.

This time I went 3-1-0 and finished 3rd of 11 players.

2:1 vs Jeskai. Game 1 I played Elspeth, Sun's Champion turn 6 and she carried me home. Game 2 I was stuck on 5 mana for a couple of turns and died to the burn damage, even though I had elspeth + Sorin, Solemn Visitor in hand. game 3 I was in trouble after taking 14 damage in one turn, but I landed a gigantic Drown in Sorrow that killed 2 Goblin Rabblemaster and 5 tokens.

0:2 vs Abzan. I was kind of mana flooded both games. In addition to that he threw threads at me like there was no tomorrow. In the second game he started with 2 Duress and besides drawing a lot of mana he took all my answers to his Sorin, Solemn Visitor, who seemed to be more threatening than my Palace Siege.

2:0 vs blue-white bolster. My opponent had a wierd mix deck. It included some heroic, some bolster, some control and some planeswalkers (narset and ugin). Since it didn't really follow a plan it wasn't such an exciting match and I managed to get all 4 planeswalkers on the bord at the same time in game 2.

2:1 vs red deck wins. Game 1 I played turn 5 Palace Siege and Elspeth, Sun's Champion once again made the game for me on turn 6, after I was able to remove threads 1 by 1. In game 2 we went back to the land of Stoke the Flames and Lightningstrike, wich stay pretty much unanswered by my deck. In game 3 I had a good start and elspeth hit the ground early, with a lot of life left. Suddenly I took 2 stoke in one turn and went down to 7. that was when I started feeling like it might be a good time for Sorin, Solemn Visitor to appear. Well next card to draw actually was sorin. When I played him my tapped out opponent concided and showed me another Lightningstrike and a Stoke the Flames in his hand. That's what I call a good topdeck.

Resumer: This deck has showen that it can actually work, even though it will never be top gear. When I first played it I hoped not to go home 0:5. But I underestimated one thing: "No deck that playes Elspeth, Sun's Champion is weak." :D
