4x Birds of Paradise Ramp, helps with T3 CoCo
4x Collected Company Lets me get 2 creature from the top 6 cards of my deck, pure value. Especially good if I can grab an Eternal Witness to bring CoCo back.
1x Dromoka's Command Really versatile card. Can prevent a Lightning Bolt from killing one of my creatures, or hitting me, can fight a creature, can make a creature bigger (possibly saving it from combat damage) or get rid of an enchantment.
4x Eternal Witness Can bring back any card, best targets are usually Collected Company or Path to Exile, but can also bring back a Fetch land if I need more lands or another creature.
4x Flickerwisp Can be used to retrigger Eternal Witness or Finks, or temporarily remove a permanent from the game.
2x Geist of Saint Traft Hexproof is super relevant and hitting for 6 on T3 is pretty good.
3x Kitchen Finks It would take two removal spells to get rid of it so it's usually going to stick around for a little bit. It gains me life so it's great against burn.
2x Loxodon Smiter Since Abzan and Jund are my worst matchups and they have a lot of hand disruption, I figure this guy might come in handy every once in a while.
4x Noble Hierarch More ramp because T3 CoCo is amazing.
4x Path to Exile Possibly the best removal spell in Modern. You just can't play a White deck without this.
1x
Qasali Pridemage
Can get rid of an annoying Artifact or Enchantment and the Exalted trigger can come in handy.
1x Scavenging Ooze Helps against Graveyard reliant decks, creature heavy decks and especially the mirror match, stopping my opponent from bringing anything back with Eternal Witness and stopping Kitchen Finks's Persist trigger.
4x Voice of Resurgence If he dies he leaves behind an even bigger dude, and if you don't kill him then I'm going to get big dudes whenever you cast a spell on my turn.
6/21/15:
Abzan stupidness 0-2
Game one I kept drawing mana, couldn't do anything about his Goyf and Rhino.
Game two was a little better, but I got mana flooded again. I had a Path to Exile and a
Meddling Mage
, so I exiled a Goyf and stopped him from playing Rhinos. But the mana flood screwed me and I couldn't play anything for a few turns and he shreked me.
U/R Storm 1-0
I got mana flooded again... I was able to play enough early game cards to slowly whittle his life away and won. He quit after game one...
U/R Twin 2-1
Game one he combo'd off on turn 4 and I didn't draw any answers.
Game two I did draw my answers and stopped him from comboing.
Game three he could've won if he drew a Twin, but he didn't and he couldn't stop my creatures.
Jund Midrange stuff 0-2
Game one was pretty good, we were both dropping threats and removal. He gained a lot more card advantage from Dark Confidant though and was able to play more than me.
Game two we both dropped a Scooze on turn two, his was able to prevent me from returning things back with Eternal Witness though which combined with Liliana of the Veil (and me stuck with 4 lands and only one white source) was able to shut me down completely.
After some testing today i'm thinking that Remand really just isn't that great in here and after getting stomped by both Abzan and Jund (both being pretty hand disruption heavy) i'm gonna try out Loxodon Smiter as a 2-of for now.
6/22/15
Naya CoCo 1-0
We played out pretty similarly, both started out with dorks and both played CoCo and both were Path to Exileing each other's creatures. Late in the game he went in for a big swing with mana open for Kessig Wolf Run, I ruined his plan with a couple Path to Exiles and left him with only a couple creatures left while I still had a few. He quit after the first game.
Jund Dredge 1-0
I made a misplay and forgot that Gravecrawler couldn't block, so he blocked with it and it died, next turn he was able to cast Lotleth Troll and GC from the grave, which brought DredgeVine back from the grave. I had Path to Exile and creatures in my hand so i wasn't worried about it though. I was able to get rid of his threats, and when the time came I Flickerwisped his only blocker, Gurmag Angler and swung for lethal. He quit after that.
I'm getting pretty tired of people quitting after the first game...
B/R Goryos vengence 2-0
Game one he got stuck on one mana and I was a turn away from killing him when he Nourishing Shoul, revealing Worldspine Wurm and spliced through the breech onto it to get Borborygmos Enraged, that only really bought him an extra turn before i killed him though.
Game two I was able to Scavenging Ooze turn 2 and be able to exile his Griselbrand with it, thanks to Noble Hierarch, then play a second Noble with mana to
Unified Will
his combo on turn 3, then Eternal Witness into
Unified Will
again on turn 4.
6/24
Burn 2-1
Game one I got him down to 7 before he burned me to death.
Game two I managed keep him from killing me with Kitchen Finks and Spellskite, and killed him just in time.
Game three he quit a little bit after we started (for no reason really), so i'm counting it as a win.
Mono G Aggro 2-0
Game one he started off pretty strong, Dryad Militant x2 plus Rancor by turn 2, I was able to hold him off until he ran out of steam and my creatures became better than his.
Game two I dropped a Spellskite early on so he couldn't play Rancor, he was able to Experiment One x2 each with a counter and play
Avatar of the Resolute
, which was giving me trouble for a couple turns. In then end I over powered him after turn 5 or so.
Mardu Aristocrats 2-0
Xmage decided to skip my first turn for some reason, so he was a turn ahead of me the whole game. Game one he had Cartel Aristocrat and a couple Doomed Travelers so he was able to hold me off from attacking for a couple turns. Eventually I just overwhelmed him with creatures though.
Game two he dropped a Falkenrath Aristocrat and almost killed me with it. I ended up playing CoCo like 5 times, on turn 3 I dropped Collected Company, only getting 2 dorks though, turn 4 I played Eternal Witness, getting CoCo back, played it turn 5 and got another Witness. That went on for a couple more turns until I overwhelmed him with creatures.
U/R Twin 2-1
Game one he didn't draw into his combo and I killed after a few turns of him stalling.
Game two I had to mulligan to 4 because every hand only had one mana. Conceded after I didn't draw the land i needed.
Game three he he flashed in Pestermite on my turn 4, I responded with CoCo, getting a Spellskite, which stopped him from comboing off, and I won a couple turns later.
Bant Flicker/ETB Control 2-0
He never played a Blue spell during either of our games, but he did have a couple Blue producing lands.
Game one he Path to Exiled my Kitchen Finks, then played Eternal Witness to bring it back, and then do it again to my second Finks. He also had Thragtusk and Restoration Angel going for him, but in the end I had more creature than him and overwhelmed him.By the end of the game Path had been used about 6 times between the of us.
Game two our roles were reversed, he played to Finks and I Path'd both of them. I kept hitting either Eternal Witness or Flickerwisp off of my Collected Companys (I had two in opening hand) and ended up playing like 10 CoCo's. He also had double Resto Angel plus a Tusk and after while when I was about to kill him he used
Magus of the Disk
to wipe the field. I had a couple Finks out though, so they came back, then I played both CoCo's after he did that and was able to kill him a couple turns later.
U/W Merfolk 0-2
Both games were pretty brutal for me. I was getting crappy draws and couldn't do anything against 3 fish lords with a few other fishies out. For game two I sided in Magus of the Moon and he only had one basic land the first game, but it did nothing because he played 3 basics.
Mono R Burn/Elementals 2-0
He was playing cards like Spark Elemental and
Flamekin Bladewhirl
plus the usual burn cards.
Game one he managed to get me to 6 before I was able to stabilize and then he couldn't do anything about my creatures. Game two went pretty much the same.
He was also playing
Chimeric Mass
for some reason...
6/25/15
Amulet Bloom 2-0
Game one I Path to Exiled his T3 Titan (which he had just tutored for with Summoner's Pact), then on my T4 I played Eternal Witness to get the Path back, he countered it with Pact of Negation. He couldn't pay 9 on his upkeep and lost.
Game two I Path'd his Titan again, then I played Magus of the Moon and he couldn't do anything for the rest of the game since he only had one basic Forest.
B/W Ad Nauseam 2-1
Game one I was not expecting this deck, I thought maybe it was Abzan or B/W tokens so when he combo'd off on 4 I was pretty surprised.
Game two I used Flickerwisp to negate
Pentad Prism
then I
Unified Will
ed his combo a couple turns later and then won.
Game three went pretty much the same as game two.
Cascade Combo 0-2
Just to clarify, the only Cascade combo i've seen before is with Living End, this deck used Restore Balance and some other stuff.
Game one I had no idea what he was doing until he played Violent Outburst into Restore Balance to wipe my field, all but one of my lands and all but 2 cards in my hand, a turn before I would've killed him too. After that I couldn't do anything and he also had Borderposts (
Firewild Borderpost
cycle) and March of the Machines, and also Greater Gargadon in his deck so I conceded.
For game two I brought in
Meddling Mage
thinking that I could just name Violent Outburst and shut him down. My opening hand had a Mage,
Unified Will
and also a Phantasmal Image so i'm like, sweet I'll shut him down easily. Turns out he also has Ardent Plea and he played it right after I named Violent Outburst with my Mage and I couldn't do anything about.
Had I known beforehand that Ardent Plea existed I would have just named Restore Balance so he couldn't wipe my field and then I might have been able to win the second game. Oh well, now I know.
6/26/15
Naya HumAggro 2-0
Game one we were neck and neck and after about 10 turns we entered a stalemate, neither of could deal lethal damage in one attack. Eventually I was able to overpower him.
Game two I had Magus of the Moon in my opening, and all he played last game was non-basics. He surrendered.
Grixis Delver 2-0
Game one he surrendered after his draw, he apparently took a no mana hand.
Game two he was able to stop me from doing anything major for a while, but eventually he just started drawing into all his lands and couldn't do anything. I was drawing all my dorks, I had 6 in play at the same time. Thanks to Exalted I was able to finish him.
Goblin Storm 2-1
Game one I CoCo'd into 2 Kitchen Finks while already having one out in response to him attacking with 2
Goblin Chieftan
and a goblin bushwacker, then I accidentally skipped my blocking step (the one problem i have with Xmage)... He was cool about it though and said that if I would've been able to block I would've won so he conceded.
Game two he was able to get 10 goblins out on turn 2 with Empty the Warrens plus storm stuff, then turn 3
Goblin Chieftan
to swing for lethal.
Game three he didn't combo off on turn two and I creature stomped him.
U/R Twin 2-0
Game one I was stuck on 2 lands and he kept Lightning Bolting my dorks so it wasn't until turn 5 when I could finally start playing cards. He didn't draw into his combo and he couldn't stop my creatures.
Game two went pretty much the same except I drew into my third land. He was able to slow me down for a while but eventually I overwhelmed him, he did drop down
Deciever Exarch
but I guess he didn't draw Splinter Twin or he would've won.
