Welcome to T̴̹͔̩̊̾̌̓̓̊͐H̶̗͖̖̏͂̀̾͠E̵̥̹̤͓͒̉͑́̚ ̷̪͉̌́B̵̧̤̣̭̭̹͙̠̋͗͆Ȩ̶̬͓̎͘Ë̸̖̪̩̺́S̵̨̞͔͍̗͕̳̐̽̌͐̇̒͐̉́͠͠, a self-mill, Insect tribal Grist, the Hunger Tide deck. I made this deck because I have entomophobia; an intense, irrational fear of insects. This 43-creature-deep abomination contains much jank, but also many powerful cards that can steal a win out of nowhere. We get value from constantly sacrificing our frail little bug friends and bringing them back from the graveyard... only to serve the hive once more. Well, I say frail, but some of these bugs are beyond the average...

Firstly, how do we make Insect tribal of all things work? This deck uses neutral tribal staples Coat of Arms, Vanquisher's Banner and Cryptic Gateway to gain bonkers value off the fact virtually all of our creatures are the same type. We also run self-mill cards to fuel our graveyard and Grist's abilities. Using Grist's +1 ability gives us a 1/1 insect token on demand and mills one card, and then it repeats if we milled an insect creature card. Since we have 38 insects in the deck (43 creatures total), we have around a 1 in 3 chance of milling an insect every single time (the same goes for Old Rutstein and Crawling Infestation). And since milling an insect gives Grist another loyalty counter for each repeat, we can easily get her counters stacked the hell up very fast.

But what about the insect cards themselves? A lot of our insects have abilities that insist on you killing them off for value eventually. Caustic Caterpillar, Symbiotic Beast, Grave-Shell Scarab and many more give us a reason to kill them off. And if they don't want to be killed off, they'll want others to be killed off. Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest, Swarm of Bloodflies, Mortician Beetle and others give us value from things dying. Now, in a typical Golgari deck, you'd want to be bringing back creatures after sacrificing them so you can do it again. And true, we do have some ways to bring things back - Gleancrawler, Victimize, Mortuary Mire, Spring-Leaf Avenger... But the way we truly win in this deck is to pile up the bodies in our graveyard.

Grist, the Hunger Tide's ultimate ability makes our opponents all lose life equal to the number of creature cards in our graveyard. To do this, we need an incentive to keep creatures in the graveyard so this can actually be effective. Izoni, Thousand-Eyed, aside from being a good sacrifice engine, creatures a buttload of bugs when she hits the field with a grave stacked full of creatures. Moldgraf Millipede gets pissed and swole as heck when he sees the graveyard full of his dead friends.

We also need tokens. When half our deck needs to be in the graveyard, we need SOME creatures to protect us, right? Don't fret, this deck packs tons of ways to generate insects. Ant Queen, Infested Roothold, Living Hive, Scute Swarm... so much of this deck can give us tokens. We even run a few cheeky ways to infect our opponents to death: Plague Stinger, Carrion Call, Trigon of Infestation and the ever-terrifying Phyrexian Swarmlord. These infect cards, when used in tandem with something like Nantuko Mentor or Thriss, Nantuko Primus, can be deadly very fast.

...Wait, wait, wait. Now hold on. You said this was a bees deck? Where are the B̵̧̤̣̭̭̹͙̠̋͗͆Ȩ̶̬͓̎͘Ë̸̖̪̩̺́S̵̨̞͔͍̗͕̳̐̽̌͐̇̒͐̉́͠͠--YOU WANT BEES?

Killer Bees. Unyaro Bees. Unyaro Bee Sting. Bee Sting. Hornet Sting. Hornet Cannon. Foundry Hornet. Hornet Nest. Hornet Queen. Caustic Wasps. The Hive.

Now go - float like a bee and sting like a bee. Do everything like a bee. B̶̛̛̫͈̌̓̽̓̃͌̌͋̏͆͘͝E̵̢̟̱̮̬̹̪͇̘̓̋̓̆̉̽͆̇̇̎ͅÈ̸̢͔̩̼͉͕͚̫͇̺̓̌͑̀̑̀Ć̶̙̜̀̈͋O̶͛̅̿M̷̧̟͉̥̥̩̱̦͚͛̈́̐͐͆̽̄̾̎̂̅̚Ẽ̶̹̝̥̌̈̆͆͗̋̀̚ ̷̧̱̗̾̔̈́̐̍̎̋̕Ą̷̬͙̟̎̃̂͂̕͜ ̷̮̘̣͖̌̌̅̋́̉B̶̧̹̹̝͖̙͖́̏͛̋̃̿͛̂́̚E̸̜̯͐̈́̓͛È̶̜̦̠̫͎̱̤̘̙͓̆̒́͒̕ͅ
