Maybeboard

This build is a chronicle detailing my love for Infect; a Mono-Green () deck currently captained by Fynn, the Fangbearer.

National Geographic: Snakes & Spiders Collection

While the deck retains a lot of passion and affection for Vorinclex   in any of his forms (i.e.; Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider; Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger), we are currently prioritizing things like Deathtouch, Draw Advantage, and Protection for important pieces. The deck aims for a (/) on the power scale.

The Copper Host's Conqueror

This deck is heavily influenced by a deep affection for Vorinclex, spanning from very early in my magic career.

My very first encounter with Vorinclex was while facing NoobNoob275, where he used Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger.

(I attribute my Affinity for Mono Green to Vorinclex, and in turn to NoobNoob275 who introduced me to the Praetor, and the Phyrexians.)

He vaguely described the concept of the praetors and the Phyrexians, and showed me who Karn Liberated was, as well as Praetor's Counsel for reference.

I read about Mirrodin and 'New Phyrexia', the Praetors, and Elspeth- a planeswalker who I had just pulled in my first pack.

Many years later when Kaldheim was in packs, I pulled Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider and read in a story how Vorinclex had traveled through a Planar portal.

This process, which should (and did) melt away the organic materials. Vorinclex was a Metallic Skeleton and grasped onto the nearest thing, which was local wildlife.

True to his roots (lol) he proceeded to nom nom nom a deer and kept it moving, wreaking havoc and collecting World Tree sap to grow Realmbreaker, the Invasion Tree.

My wife several weeks later pulled a foil Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider and then ANOTHER regular one. It was a sign.

With the release of Phyrexia: All Will Be One, NoobNoob275 and I got prerelease packs and that's when I pulled a concept printing of Vorinclex. That was when this list started to be crafted.

When March of the Machine was printed, I had to include Vorinclex   in the list. It became an obsession!

The deck has really shined brightest with the idea of poison counters at the center, and I'm sure at least one Vorinclex will always remain in the list.

  • Originally, a Mono-Green () Infect based build with Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider as the commander.

  • The intention was to swing in with thematic and flavorful inclusions that meant poison counters at every possible encounter.

  • A deck initially made as a solid (/) power pre-constructed concept.

The Big Mean Green Machine

  • At it's compleation, NoobNoob275 had nicknamed my deck "GreenBeans", and I think it is a fitting moniker.

  • Another one of the defining strategies behind this deck was to beat up Savage_savior6 for having too much life.

  • Below is a portfolio of information about initial construction. For more recent and pertinent development discussion, see Mainboard Roster Updates v.4.

This Mono-Green Shell is crafted with a hard focus on poison counters and stompy green creatures. While Mono-Colored EDH decks are typically less competitive due to color pie balancing, I believe that an Infect deck could be successful by relying on what Green does best; beating face.

Stop counting to Fourty..

The intention of my build is to quit letting my table go under the illusion that having a large amount of life is going to lead to an inevitable win. Looking at you, Savage_savior6.

A large portion of my build is entirely fitted to a few really cool things:

  1. Infect is still (currently) legal. And for the foreseeable future will remain so.

  2. Toxic Ability stacks, and this is just gravy for what the Phyrexia: All Will Be One set has released.

  3. Proliferate was previously seldom found underneath Mono-Green, but has had a surge of new prints in the aforementioned set.

..and Start counting to Five.

The most beautiful part about Vorinclex is that the Praetor's ability applies to poison counters.

That means we've reduced the necessary poison counters by half!

(while technically you still must achieve ten poison counters for a loss, inherently with Vorinclex out you've made the job THAT much easier.)

Alongside cards like Paladin of Predation this could contend single-swing victories.

The Hippo Grows Wings to Fight the Condor

  • Reconstructed with more precise, highline antics in mind. This deck is meant to keep pace with a competitive table.

  • A re-imagined list that is meant to be at a solid (/) power scale.

This deck is my number one passion project and my favorite deck to both play and to workshop. Please feel free to drop an upvote and a comment!

Updates Add

Thanks so much for checking in on my longest running Green passion project. If you're only just checking out the list, welcome!

If you're returning because you got an updated deck notification, I see you! Thanks for checking it out.

The main points of this update are as follows:

  1. Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider is now a part of the 99, being replaced by Fynn, the Fangbearer.

  2. The deck has had a major overhaul in construction, favoring a more laid back approach with low-to-the-ground Mana costs.

  3. Having a whole bunch of fun reintroducing functionally worse (for competitive reasons) cards back into the deck because it provides a strange consistency, and laughs watching everything get killed by poison/toxic/deathtouch.

(this includes: Smell Fear, Carnivorous Canopy, Courage in Crisis, Unnatural Restoration, etc.)

I'm saving the previous iteration of this deck in the Maybeboard in order to not lose track of a really solid concept.

Depending on play experience and how my group reacts, I may end up just getting all of these cards and having BOTH deck builds constructed.. but that remains to be seen. For now, I'm looking forward to playing with my new shell and seeing my playgroup respond.

P.s.: if you're here for the Snakes and Spiders you're a real gem, bless!
