Many years ago, a younger Camel looked at The Gitrog Monster and saw potential for it to sync up with his favorite card Smokestack. The mission statement was simple.

"deadass can you imagine seeing a gitrog in the enemy and then he whips out a fucken smokestack that would be crazy"

It wouldn't be much longer after designing this deck that I quit Magic, having to work most of my Wednesday and Friday nights. I would tweak the deck concept every now and then to see how it would playtest alongside the latest sets. I am older now, perhaps even wiser. Smokestack is still my favorite card and The Gitrog Monster continues to be my favorite commander to conceptualize. Because, fundamentally speaking, there is but one reason that I am attracted to designing decks in the way that I have done previously and will continue to do in the future.

I design decks to be an asshole. I want to traumatize my opponents into never looking at Golgari the same way again. I am one of the only people on the planet who looked at the 20 minute turn potential with Gitrog and didn't say "I can make this better." I can, instead, be so much worse. Because this is the point of Magic. One might think that the goal of this game, and in particular the EDH format, is to sit around and have fun with your friends at your LGS or the kitchen table. This is erroneous thinking. The goal of Magic is to win in the most toxic way possible and ensure that none of your friends want to touch a TCG ever again. They'll be better off for it.

In order achieve this new fundamental state for the deck, I decided to look up competitive lists for Gitrog. Within these lists, I found the primer, the dual titans tech, the end of turn Dakmor loop, and so many more things to learn and master when I previously thought I was already as toxic as I could be with this list. Gone are the days of innocently shuffling through the deck to generate hundreds of mana through Lotus Cobra and ending it with Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate. And so too are the days when I would only cast spells once and assume Yawgmoth's Will was the best way to get them again.

Now, our turns can take even longer

Now, we can lock down the board even harder

Now, our wins cons are even stronger

Now, our ability to propagate hater energy has increased to an infinite scale.

Say your prayers to Kendrick to be the hater you know you can be. Never let your playgroup enjoy the game again.
