DRAGONS

Lathliss, Dragon Queen does one thing, and she does it well. More Dragons.

Play a dragon, Get a dragon.

With that the way we play this deck is pretty straightforward.

Dragons Cost Too Much

Dragons are big creatures that cost a lot of mana, this is a problem because mono-red is not exactly the best at ramping.

But we can put down what we have to start.

Dormant Volcano doesn't exactly ramp so much as it insures we don't miss an early land drop. which is also fairly helpful. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is a powerhouse in a mono colored deck, though it's power really shines later in the game. Temple of the False God is our best ramp land, as it's two for one is hard to beat.

Sol Ring , Arcane Signet , Pillar of Origins , Dragon's Hoard , Heraldic Banner and Gilded Lotus will help us get mana one the field, but rocks are hardly the only thing we have to help.

Battle Hymn is best used later game for an explosive turn that wins the game. When used with Seething Song , Geosurge , Irencrag Feat and Mana Geyser we can get crazy amounts of mana out very quickly. If our opponents have all together 8 tapped lands (far below normal in my experience) and we have 4 creatures (a conservative amount as we produce tokens) we spend 5 mana and get 19. That is a crazy shift that very likely will cinch the game for us.

Our best bet is cost reduction, Dragonlord's Servant , Ruby Medallion , Dragonspeaker Shaman , Hazoret's Monument , Herald's Horn and Urza's Incubator will all reduce the cost of our dragons. All together they drop the cost to play them by 8. Making any of our dragons have a negligible cost, this also helps with command tax as well, though excluding that, we really only benifit from discounting for 6 colorless.

We have mana doublers as well, Extraplanar Lens , Gauntlet of Power (here functioning as a Gauntlet of Might) and Caged Sun all double our mana that we can produce.

Lastly we can cheat out dragons with Quicksilver Amulet , Belbe's Portal and Sunbird's Invocation

Other Tricks

The ability of Lathliss, Dragon Queen is powerful in its own right, but we can take advantage of it with Strionic Resonator letting us get another 5/5 flyer for 2. Panharmonicon doubles this ability outright. Conjurer's Closet serves a dual purpose here, it returns a creature to our hand so that we can cast it again to get whatever ETB it may have and get a 5/5 from our Queen, but it also can protect a dragon on everyone else's turn.

There are a few anthem effects here though they really are not needed as the raw power of dragons is usually fine in their own right. If you're looking to swap out cards, I'd start here.

Pyroblast and Red Elemental Blast do a great job of stopping a Cyclonic Rift and to be completely honest, card:Iscochron Scepter would be a decent include in this deck to hold down one of these, or one of our mana generating spells.

Dragons of Different Shapes and Sizes

Not all dragon tokens are created equal. Dragon Egg and Nesting Dragon make 2/2s. Verix Bladewing and Sarkhan the Masterless make 4/4s. Lathliss, Dragon Queen , Dragonmaster Outcast and Sarkhan, Fireblood get us 5/5s. And Utvara Hellkite will give us 6/6s.

So go out there, make some dragons, and win
