I think the Desecration Demon is probably the best bet mainly because it's a threat in it's own right. Not that the other cards aren't but they're much slower. That being said you could use the Whip or even Rescue from the Underworld to bring something back.

I do still think the Demon is the best bet. It's a dangerous threat in it's own right, and it has a pretty big body to start with that will cause a decent amount of life loss w/o having to be too too concerned about the number of counters on it.

I'm very intrigued to see how this plays.

i have been playtesting it, so far Lotleth Troll has himself pulled the win. Let me know thought when you get a chance to test it

actually Reaper of the Wilds might be better. harder to deal with, lets me scry. whereas Desecration Demon can be forever tapped and utterly useless without Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord or Flesh / Blood

Perhaps. It's worth a test, I know from my experience facing Double D he causes headaches even if it's just them consistently saccing their creatures.

what about 2 Erebos, God of the Dead and 3 Underworld Connections instead of Grisly Salvage and Commune with the Gods ?

that way I have a little bit more control over the draw, although I do not get to dump things as fast into the yard.

also considering Deadbridge Chant x2

what about Pack Rat ? It seems like the early game leaves you vulnerable, Pack Rat would give you another low-cost creature card that is another outlet to put things into the graveyard.

Maybe a couple Slitherhead would be a good idea too. at the very least its an easy one drop and with lotleth troll an easy +2/+2 on him or +1/+1 on another creature.

oh, also Pack Rat would be an easy way to get your black devotion up for Abhorrent Overlord and Erebos, God of the Dead .

thanks for the suggestions...early game I am usually just removing creatures with all the removal that is packed in here while blocking with the troll. any of the fatties (Abhorrent Overlord , Sire Of Insanity , Borborygmos Enraged ) can be dumped to pump the troll, which have a much bigger late game impact over Slitherhead .

What does the bow give you other than deathtouch?

November 22, 2013 6:06 p.m.

Khanye says... #13

deathtouch, life gain, recycle cards back into deck, pump a creature....mostly the lifegain and deathtouch

There really aren't that many reliable Reanimate effects in standard right now. You'll need that slaughter games for Scavenging Ooze and Rest in Peace

Sire Of Insanity and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord make a potentially amazing combo. Just throwing that out there. Maybe throw in Varolz, the Scar-Striped to upset your enemies even more.

November 23, 2013 3:21 p.m.

Khanye says... #16

Problem with Varolz, the Scar-Striped is that he exiles my guys without really affecting the opponent immediately, and I dont have many profit creatures meaning their power is greater than their casting cost. Lotleth Troll gets in Selesnya Charm territory if he gets too big, so have to keep him under the radar while consistently bringing the beats

pwn_alex says... #17

One benefit of having Varolz, the Scar-Striped with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord is that you can sac creatures then they are available for scavenge if mana is open.

Uhh... Varolz and Jarad don't have much synergy. Jarad wants guys in the yard while Varolz wants to empty the yard. Though Varolz kinda creates his own synergy with his regenerate ability but that's not what this deck wants to do. Also chiefbell is right there aren't really that many good reanimation spells right now. That said I would look at Rescue from the Underworld . I might even throw in Gray Merchant of Asphodel he would make a good candidate to send to the "underworld" and back and maybe drop the bow. I like Ashen Rider for a creature to reanimate. I'm also not the biggest fan of sire of insanity cuz top decking is always a gamble. And why no hero's downfall it works faster than dreadbore for one more mana. I would think about dropping the stomping ground for Temple of Abandon sure it slows you down but the scry is very usefull and speed doesn't seem that important to this deck.

Oh ya I also think that pack rat could be a good fit here your deck has a devotion under theme. And packrat discards to build devotion and Jarad.

Why no Nighthowler in there? Bestow him on a Troll and your really big really fast. Drown in Filth , Commune with the Gods and Grisly Salvage are all good cards to find the right cards you need while also adding to your yard.

I think you should put grisly salvage back in just to ensure you actually get a troll or if you add pack rats, because you look to be pretty screwed without one. and if not it makes sure you get the fourth land drop on time for jarad/eboros/whip that you need to be hitting turn 4. Plus it also puts those big creatures straight into the graveyard so you're not stuck without one turn 5 to whip right in. Card draw and the impulse like effect are definitely not the same and if you're reanimating you need the impulse.

I don't think the bow is doing enough for you since you don't seem to have a lot of extra mana floating, a game is rarely long enough where the cycling cards into the deck is relevant, you'd basically just be shooting down early flyers or pumping creatures. and the death touch is minimal since your plan is to fling most of your creatures anyways.

basically take out bow and add grisly back as well as pack rats.

Also think about other creatures you might want to reanimate the overlord will make at least 4 harpies which is good for blockers and borbo seem's really fun but something that might stick around might be better because you could fling it twice or block next turn aka Utvara Hellkite and Giant Adephage (which like pack rats can keep copying). Or even off color things like angel of serenity.

Other thank that deck seems fun, especially since I'm looking to make a Jund deck in the next set.

The reason why I took Grisly Salvage out was because more often than not in playtesting, I whiffed with it completely. No creatures, No lands would be revealed, instead it would be removal or Flesh / Blood . Underworld Connections has been decent as it provides a steady draw + devotion. The Bow of Nylea has been a workhorse thus far. The deathtouch on an attacking troll is very relevant, and the 2 green mana to gain 3 life is around more often than people would think. Also, I have been able to send a few items back to the deck in response to a Scavenging Ooze / Crypt Incursion . Borborygmos Enraged isn't just fun, he is an absolute beast when reanimated. If they don't kill him at instant speed, he causes upwards of 12-14 damage that turn, which could very well be the game. I like Utvara Hellkite and Giant Adephage because they stay around longer, not sure what to cut for them though.

If you don't like Grisly Salvage you could consider Jarad's Orders . Note the wording of the card is 'UP TO two creature cards', so you are allowed to search for one and put it into hand.

November 25, 2013 12:10 p.m.

Khanye says... #25

that costs too much mana I think.

a few other cards I am considering to help with draw + discard:

Tin Street Market

Wild Guess

I don't get the devotion count from them, and Wild Guess has 2 red, which could be problematic, but those could help me dig.

Read the Bones is also on the maybe list, Not sure yet though
