Read the Bones is very popular because you get to see the top 2 and then if you don't like them draw a different two. It provides some manipulation to the top of the deck which allows you to sometimes avoid drawing into rubbish cards you dont need.

Is the lifeloss worth it though? I am thinking Underworld Connections still is a better option than the rest, even though it doesn't help in dumping stuff to the yard.

I still think gray merchant would be good especially if your gonna run things like underworld connections and Erebos for your card advantage. You might also consider Desecration Demon for some beats and devotion. Let me know if you find this information valuable. Also let me know how it plays and good luck.

I wouldn't take out Underworld Connections it's an amazing card.

Gary doesn't do much for this deck. desecration demon is nice, but any of the other fatties in this deck are WAY better for the interaction with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord and Whip of Erebos .

Reanimating a Sire Of Insanity is a very very bad thing for esper to see. They will need to burn a Hero's Downfall to save their hand on a creature which was only there temporarily anyways. Which leaves them with 1 less removal to throw at one of your attacking creatures. Not to mention, it will let me dump everything to the yard for more reanimation targets. The race for this deck is to get Lotleth Troll out, get Whip of Erebos out, and get to 7 mana with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord . game set and match at that point

Abhorrent Overlord being reanimated could potentially leave five 1/1s around with flying. Utvara Hellkite would leave a single 6/6, Giant Adephage would potentially leave a 7/7 with trample.

Abhorrent Overlord is the better choice imo, as they will need a sweeper to come back from it, or they will be nickle and diming the tokens. Elspeth, Sun's Champion cannot touch the tokens with her pseudo sweeper. Supreme Verdict / Ratchet Bomb can, but those tokens really didn't cost me much to produce

another thing is that you do not want to throw all your eggs in 1 basket with the Lotleth Troll . I do not look for a giant swing to win with it, looking for more of a consistent bashing while being able to block some earlier threats.

to replace the Bow of Nylea , I am considering Vraska the Unseen as more removal and another win con, but not sure yet. The Bow of Nylea has performed like a champ

I had vraska in a golgari deck. She's just slow.

she is a bit slow, but soooo good.

if you don't take care of her early on, she will go to town on you.

is Stormbreath Dragon ok in the sideboard? or would you recommend something else?

You don't have a mana curve...

Ya you might concider adding Dreg Mangler to give you something to do early. Also Deathrite Shaman would be a good addition here with the amount of instant/sorcery spells your putting in the grave.

I am considering Deathrite Shaman instead of Stormbreath Dragon , or should I roll that mainboard?

infectadec have you read the description? the curve is essentially topping out at 4...

I'm a big fan of both cards but Deathrite would probably be better in this situation. The dragon would make a good sideboard card against draw heavy decks like Esper control and mono blue devotion. That said Deathrite is really good all around. If u can play him turn 1, turn 2 doom blade something then turn 3 doom blade and save a swamp to hit them for 2 or if they have a lot of haste forest for 2 life. He also works well with grisly salvage to get some use out of the lands and things that go to the grave.

maybe replace the Flesh / Blood with Mizzium Mortars mainboard and add something else sideboard while replacing Stormbreath Dragon with Deathrite Shaman ?

November 26, 2013 1:04 p.m.

Very nice. I like its flow. +1.

DimirDan says... #18

Mizzium mortars is a very good card : targeted removal and board wipe in 1. Deathrite is always good. I'm thinking of building a Golgari deck with this deck as a template +1

Mutavault cannot attack the turn it enters the battlefield. The ability to make it a creature can be activated, but it will have ''summoning sickness''. Nice idea for the deck, it looks fun. Black still needs a good sweeper like Mutilate , and more graveyard love.

Hopefully we get Damnation back this block

Have you considered Pack Rat ? It's a discard engine that's also a win condition.

November 28, 2013 3:01 p.m.

DimirDan says... #22

Mutavault and pack rat work well together. I'd drop the blood crypt and dreadbore for swamps and hero's downfall. No need to shock your self for removal at sorcery speed. You only run 2 borborygmos and reanimate is cheaper plus haste.

November 28, 2013 5:49 p.m.

Khanye says... #23

As nice as Hero's Downfall is, Dreadbore has been performing just fine in its place thus far, maybe later on I can do the swap. Blood Crypt helps with the sideboard as well as using Mizzium Mortars as a sweeper, no need to swap it. Pack Rat is a discard engine! but it costs mana. Lotleth Troll discards for free while pumping itself! great for combat tricks. Gaze of Granite for 5 cmc, Supreme Verdict easily get rid of Pack Rat , leaving you with very little to come back with. The troll survives just about everything for only 1 black mana....

Ya the troll's good nobody's arguing that. Be open to suggestions. Pack rats not just a discard engine, the mana used brings out another body to block and attack with while pumping both rats. I've seen packrat and mutavault win games by themselves. Say you don't get a troll in your opening hand but 2 mutavault and a pack rat show up. Pack rats potential is already at 3/3 with just 1 and the two mutavault. Play mutavault turn 1. Turn 2 play swamp swing with mutavault. Turn 3 play mutavault and pack rat. Turn 4 play forest swing with 2 mutavault and 3/3 pack rat cuz vaults are rats too swing for 7. Turn 5 play swamp discard make another pack rat swing for 5 more. 6 make a rat swing with vaults and 2 3/3 rats for 10 and so on. This depends on your opponents board state and what you think they have in hand but he's a good card. Say your mana flooded with a troll and rat in hand play the rat and troll discard lands to make more rats. He pumps himself essentially and is pretty versatile. As far as downfall over dreadbore it's all about the speed. Downfall can kill elspeth at as soon as she +1s vs spending mana on your turn. Use that mana to make rats or cast creatures or reanimate with the whip. It's not that dreadbore's a bad card downfall's just faster. To compete sometimes that instant speed is just better. Kill master of waves while his ability's still on the stack. Ultimately you make the decision but at least weigh your options and make an educated choice. I hope I'm not coming across as pushy, I'm just trying to help. Good luck and have fun
