The general idea behind this is the same as the current combo deck, get Eldrazi Displacer, Zulaport Cutthroat, and
Brood Monitor
on the field at the same time to get infinite death triggers and win.
I think the deck goes from pretty okay to competetive with the inclusion of Traverse the Ulvenwald,
Pious Evangel
, and the greatest addition,
Westvale Abbey
.
The reason I think this is twofold, the combo is more reliable with more tutors and Blood Artist effects, and we now have a solid backup plan.
With delirium enabled, Traverse the Ulvenwald lets us get any of the three combo pieces. From Beyond can grab 2 and a half (Catacomb Sifter) pieces, and send an enchantment to the yard for delirium. Catacomb Sifter lets us scry through our entire deck when going off. These together seem very reliable.
Pious Evangel
is slightly worse than Zulaport Cutthroat against most opponents, but allows us to stay alive earlier in the game, and allows us to sac any permanent to flip it, helping enable delirium or get tokens from Hangarback Walker, or hell, both. It also allows us to gain infinite life with the face up side when going off, if we just need one more turn to wrap it up.
Westvale Abbey
is as solid a backup plan as they come. We need colorless lands, and we make tokens for days. Once it flips, it can clean up a game on it's own or buy some time to assemble the combo. Allowing us to sac 5 tokens/creatures with a Zulaport Cutthroat or flipped
Pious Evangel
on the battlefield lets us drain 5/gain 5 and swing for 9 lifelinking in the air.
Finally, another new addition that is actually from battle for zendikar, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. It turns our secondary plan of tokens into a real thing. He creates tokens, and then pumps them. He also has a built in "sac" ability the turn he comes out to help with delirium if need be, and making all my 1/1 scions 2/2s is game changing.
I think there is still some fiddling with numbers and finalising the manabase and sideboard, but for the most part it's fairly reliable and powerful.
This deck preys on fair midrange decks by clogging up the ground, and then winning out of nowhere. They need to both kill my creatures, leave up answers at instant speed, and not die to a million tokens.
Mostly now, I need help with the sideboard, as the match-up against control is god-awful, and with making the manabase work more smoothly
