This is my take on a Selesnya Knight deck.
The main ramp combo is Hero of Bladehold
+
Cathars' Crusade
+
Doubling Season
. It's quite destructive, especially when all the knights are themselves indestructible, thanks to our friend Knight Exemplar.
Tips would be greatly appreciated- a full list of reasoning behind the specific cards are below. Bear in mind that many of the cards are obvious adds, such as Knight Exemplar. For this reason, I have not spelled out their inclusion. If any card choice was unclear, let me know and I will add my reasoning for it.
Steward of Valeron
: This guy is pretty nice for a two-drop, and helps me ramp a bit into Cathars' Crusade and Doubling Season. Having him out accelerates the speed of the deck by a turn at least, which is invaluable in any format, to say nothing of Modern. Why not staples such as Knight of Meadowgrain or
Accorder Paladin
? Well, having tested all 3, I have found that
Steward of Valeron
sacrifices little early power, for a ton of late-game potential, by bringing the lategame to -you-.
Knight of the Reliquary: Two words- Mana. Fixing. She doesn't specify basic lands, so in a pinch she can be used to tutor any land your heart desires. Not only that, but they don't enter tapped, allowing you to use a full turn of mana, and still have a plains left over for an emergency Brave the Elements or Path to Exile during your opponent's turn. Damn handy.
Cathars' Crusade
+
Doubling Season
+
Hero of Bladehold
: The synergy between these three cards shoots the late-game power of this deck through the ceiling. If all 3 are out, god help your opponent. 1 Hero puts out 2 tokens, giving your creatures +2/+2 every time she attacks (battle-cry aside). With Doubling Season, that is multiplied into 4 tokens, or +8/+8. Multiplicative scaling is the very best kind. (and that's just with 1 Hero of Bladehold!) Fortunately for knights, they are an extremely powerful tribal even without the combo- but if you get it out, the game is most likely over.
Rancor: One of my favorite green cards, it takes a lickin' and keeps on kicking. Trample in a pinch, a nice buff, and an almost impossible to destroy enchantment, for 1 green? Yes, please!
Unflinching Courage: Rancor on steroids. With the double strike that either Student of Warfare or
Kinsbaile Cavalier
gives, you can start healing for upwards of 30 life a turn. That in of itself can be a game-ender.
Thanks for reading! I am currently trying to figure out a good ratio of Evolving Wilds/Terramorphic Expanse to add to the deck. If you have a suggestion, let me know!
