i would personally switch the courser of kruphix for voyaging satry since you only have 23 lands and this would also allow you to mana ramp and cast nykthos twice in a sense

Courser is mainly there for card advantage - there isn't a whole lot of it in this deck. Although I do like the idea of using Nykthos more than once a turn, especially on turns when Garruk is filling my hand with creatures.

ya, i was considering running courser in my deck because of the two green and four power body, but i was running so few lands and so many creatures that ramp was more important, but it can be better in some situations, +1 for me

Replace the Temple of Abandon with another Temple of Malady because the only red cc cards you have are Burning-Tree Emissary and maybe Pit Fight . You can cast those without a red source, so red land is obsolete.

Why are you running Temple of Abandon when you don't have any cards that require red mana :P

Since you're running black, I would recommend Golgari Charm, it's very usefull against mass removal like Supreme Verdict.

To quote the description: "The deck is limited to the cards I own right now." - I own just one temple of malady. I wanted to keep the scry, so I threw in a Temple of Abandon as a placeholder.

The golgari charm is a good call. I like it better than ultimate price in the sideboard, so I'll switch it up. There isn't a lot of control in the local meta, so I feel safe keeping it out of the main.

I'd drop the overgrown tombs, for 4 more forests, as they are cheeky with burn or aggro decks, and there are very few black cards in your deck. Anyway cool concept +1 check out my version of mono green too!

As far as Chord of Calling is concerned, I do agree that convoke at sorcery speed is not a very good ability, but as an instant is amazing. Be able to block incoming threats and then convoke something like Hornet Queen or one of the Gods in the deck I think makes it so you should run at least one, if not two, of the Chord of Calling .

I mentioned in the update that I have a Chord of Calling that will probably make the main deck. My concern was over tapping creatures to convoke. I want mana dorks to be used and I want my big creatures to be attacking. It sounds good in theory, but I haven't seen the deck in action against real people (waiting on a few cards in the mail). If it's ok I'll put one in the main and if it's great I think that two is a great idea.

i would move the two setessans tactics from main to side and bring in thoughtseize, and maybe cut a few or all of either your pain lands or shocklands, because you are taking alot of damage for very little use( you dont have lots of black spells). This is what i recommend but i like it +1

I agree with the Thoughtseize. I want to try that out since it's such a strong card. Tactics is great in some matchups, so I'm definitely keeping 3 copies in the sideboard.

I've also foudn through testing that I'm not taking a ton of damage from the lands (2-3 damage per game, if any). I understand the argument for cutting back some of the damage with my concentration of black spells, so I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Another route is to go deeper into black. 12 black symbols plus 3 caryatids is more than enough to support a full second color, so I can side cards in like Drown in Sorrow or Bile Blight . Alternatively, one of the SCG lists from this last weekend ran Doomwake Giant , which is both a solid body with 7 constellation triggers already in the deck.

ya set. tactics is a great card, but it depends on the matchup. i havnt played the deck so i guess i cant really argue with the mana base

You'll probably do alright without Llanowar Wastes , you only need to make 2 black to cast your entire mainboard. Also, have you considered Genesis Hydra ?

sf_torquatus says... #15

Yeah, the hydra is in the sideboard at the moment. I'm torn on Eidolon of Blossoms versus Genesis Hydra right now and maybe shaving some eidolons. The problem is that Hydra is GREAT in the mid-to-late game and TERRIBLE in the early game. The singleton in the side is a hedge against mono black and its variants since it usually produces two threats. At the very least, eidolon is "pay 4 mana, draw a card" at its worse; it's really hard to argue with that value.

I may also shave a couple wastes. It's there so I can enable a board that goes deep into black. As it stands, I rarely every take pain. It's also the perfect land to tap nykthos.
