Maybeboard

All You Can Gob

I built this deck for my wife, but I kind of wish I hadn't because now I have to play against it. Krenko can get very mean, very fast.

The strategy for this deck is very simple:

  1. Cast as many goblins as you can, as early as you can.
  2. Cast Krenko, Mob Boss as soon as you have the mana.
  3. Tap Krenko to double your goblins every turn.

While you're gearing up, cards like Dragon Fodder and Beetleback Chief that create extra goblins are very useful, because these will rapidly multiply over the next few turns. You can speed things up even more with Battlemage's Bracers and Thousand-Year Elixir, letting you activate Krenko multiple times per turn. Once you really get going, you'll almost always have more creatures than your opponents, allowing you to swarm past any blockers. Cards like Goblin Lookout and Torbran, Thane of Red Fell let your potentially dozens of unblocked goblins hit that much harder.

You can easily end up with so many goblins, you won't mind tossing a few of them to Ashnod's Altar or Skirk Prospector for all the mana you need for the rest of the game. And if the swarm doesn't do it, cards like Massive Raid, Hobgoblin Bandit Lord, and Witty Roastmaster scale up very quickly to finish things off.

Improvements

This deck was built on a budget, which is why some of the goblins may seem kind of random, and why it's missing some maybe obvious options like Purphoros, God of the Forge. As a mono-red deck, it has a lot of damage-based removal, but could probably use a Chaos Warp as another option for things that are hard to kill with fire alone. I have some other ideas in the Maybeboard to explore, but honestly, this deck has been pretty successful as it is so far. Right now, I feel like I may be better off improving my other decks to beat it instead...

Updates Add

In: Purphoros, God of the Forge, Basalt Ravager

Out: Tuktuk the Explorer, Goblin Fireslinger

The only reason Purphoros wasn't in here from the beginning was because I didn't have one, but that has been corrected. Purphoros and Krenko are a very dangerous combination, capable of ending games in a few turns even without attacking. Basalt Ravager is basically another Volley Veteran that can hit players (and planeswalkers, and battles I guess), which isn't bad either.

This does update raise the mana curve a tiny bit and cost me a couple goblins, but I think these cards are good enough to be worth it.
