a blue splash might be good since you'd get knuckleblade and cruise.

I'll find the right combination of cards when I lay it out in front of me.. It's doing well in playtesting against other decks, but I still feel something is missing...

How is Flamewake Phoenix doing for you? I'm running a very similar deck and I like the card, but I don't like that I can't ramp to it on turn 2 when the play I want to be making is Elvish Mystic > Savage Knuckleblade > Shaman of the Great Hunt for lethal on turn 4. My thought is that Flamewake is cool because it's a recurring threat with evasion that can get big and scary with your Shaman out, but in terms of when you can play it it competes with better stuff. Thoughts?

Pretty good actually, makes opponents think about what to actually remove with their removal. Which can set an opponent sometimes 1-2 turns behind on board presence. Another reason I enjoy Ashcloud Phoenix..Overall it runs pretty nicely, I have considered running 4 of just for those fun cases of bringing back 2+ phoenixes and running it with Tormenting Voice to discard them.

That combo you use is in my build too, just with Fanatic of Xenagos over Savage Knuckleblade. Granted the ape is better, just wish it had trample. Giving an opponent the ability to choose "take 4 now, remove it with removal, or give a perm 4/4 with trample" can oddly enough keep people on their toes. I use to poke fun at the tribute mechanic, but since its not widely used, even some "advanced" players have to consider the possibilities of there choice. (Course if they just want to remove it, then there no real thinking involved...or is there)

I have a similar temur build that you should check out. Gave the +1. Temur Haste Siege.

I don't quite like Ashcloud Phoenix as much as Flamewake Phoenix. Maybe change in for a version of Atarka (Atarka, World Render , Dragonlord Atarka or the new Harbinger of the Hunt) Or if you want to keep the 4cmc slot then the new dragon Thunderbreak Regent would keep the 4cmc slot (exact same mana cost) and has a dragon target clause which could be a game decider.

otherwise, nice gruul deck

Thanks, I was actually considering Thunderbreak Regent in place of Ashcloud Phoenix. I enjoy the feedback thank you :)

Interesting. Good deck. Out of curiousity, where did you get the quote?

Minelia5: The author of the quote is now listed in the description.

have you ever thought about running in some genesis hydras or possibly some more mana? possibly devo to green with like caryatids or nykthos possibly?

April 12, 2015 3:48 a.m.

BlueEyes says... #17

I've run Genesis decks in the past, still have all the cards for Green Devo decks. Didn't really enjoy it against most match ups in my shop. I am sure its better now and I've considered making a new version, but I decided to keep tweaking this type of deck until I get it to my liking.

i mean the deck is good itself but honestly i can see the rabblemasters mainboard and possibly the heir of wilds in the sideboard. thats just how i worked it against a mono-black deck earlier this morning.

I can see that, I am still working on the sideboard as well. Really debating on Goblin Rabblemaster on putting him back mainboard or sideboard. :D Any suggestions for the sideboard would be great too

April 12, 2015 9:51 p.m.

i would honestly put rabblemaster back main board and then put in another atarka command and maybe a couple of dromoka lords? just my opinion

What matchups are the Chandra, Pyromasters for?

April 18, 2015 8:02 p.m.

BlueEyes says... #22

Honestly, I had them in sideboard for aggro decks/control decks. To control the board and to get card advantage, but probably going to scrap it for a different card.

Hi, do you prefer the Rattleclaw Mystic over Sylvan Caryatid?

April 20, 2015 5:45 a.m.

BlueEyes says... #24

I do, I've won more games with Swinging in for the 2 damage with Rattleclaw Mystic than having Sylvan Caryatid just sit there. I also have no issue if people want to waste a removal spell on a weak creature in fear of ramping versus killing my better creatures.

Duckling says... #25

Yeah, that's a good point. I understand the difference it can make having the extra attacker. Awesome deck man, +1 :D
